Hmm, looks like the 15 Gaming was cheaper during the Click Frenzy sale https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275970

    • …and thats the one i was after as well!
Ill just have to wait for a better deal then. :(

      • it's cheaper now on eBay.. see my reply 2 comments down :)

      Even cheaper 6+ months ago:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238048

      • and it's the same price as 6 months ago on eBay $1119.20 after 20%

        • +1

and it's the same price as 6 months ago on eBay $1119.20 after 20%

Current eBay price is $1199.20 ($1499.00 less 20% off code).

Still cheaper than deal in OP ($1379).

Beware that reviews on the Dell site say the screen is a shocker. Also, might be red WASD keys.

        • +1

The display is LG IPS panel. The Screen should be far better than some Asus & MSI which have decided to go for TN panels rather than IPS.

        • @motor89:

Really? Have you got a link? The reviews say the panel is bad. I know the previous version had a panel lottery - some got bad panels, others got okay panels. When I contacted Dell for the previous version, they said they couldn't tell me which panel I would get, so I passed.

        • +1

          @worldwidehappiness:

It appears that Dell may have changed from an IPS panel to a worse one (possibly TN) and charged more for the machine given the same specs in the last year.

As of december last year, the LCD was regarded as a great FHD IPS as tested by the following reviews:

          http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-7559-Notebook-…
          http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookreview/dell-inspiron-1…

These reviews contrast with the reviews on the Dell website. This would be a huge shame and grounds for return for sure if you expected an IPS panel based on the reviews of the last year, then you receive the laptop to find that Dell removed the IPS panel (even from the listing in the website), but kept all other specs the same.

        • @c0balt:

Both reviews are for the previous version (7559), not this version (7566). The first review is for the 4k display, not the 1080 display. The second review must have been lucky to get a better screen. As I said, it's a lottery. The only screen I have seen for the previous version was at JB hi-fi, and it was the worst screen I've ever seen.

Type this in google for evidence: inspiron 7559 panel lottery

        • @worldwidehappiness: They have made only minor changes from the previous one(7559) for the newer one(7566). Displays are identicals, which are available in both FHD IPS and QHD IPS. laptop media

        • @motor89:

As noted in the comments section of your link, "the base model it’s not IPS :/"

There is plenty of evidence that the panels area lottery. Type this into google: inspiron 7559 panel lottery

Wonder if they were waiting to see what Lenovo posted.

$319 for the popular Inspiron 11 3000 is a good deal, considering you can get 4% cashback with CashRewards through Dell.com (beats the 1.25% for the usual ebay deal)

Great for younger students or as a travel laptop

  • +1

does anyone have any comments on quality and function of these, or can direct me to another forum where I might find this info?
I am after a fairly basic laptop for desktop-type use - word processing, possibly photo software, watching videos, listening to music etc. but not high tech games etc. is there a model here that might be appropriate and a good deal?
    Cheers

The Inspiron 15" 5000 deals are for AMD processors. No thanks.

    • +2

I just had a look, and it appears Z510859AU is AMD based 5565, but the other two (Z510852AU & Z510854AU) are Intel based 5567.

      • +1

Sorry, you're right. Don't know how I made that mistake.

The link for the 'Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1' isn't showing any select-able configurations.
    http://www.dell.com/au/business/p/inspiron-13-7378-2-in-1-la…

    • I couldn't figure out how to select a model to buy either.

    Dang no xps

Ozbargain doenst know what bargain mean…sigh!

    • Dell has no idea what is a bargain.

  • Tried to get a Z510857AU, the site says it doesn't exist????

    • works for me

      ouch heavy laptop 3.38 Kg

      • I wouldn't know, I can't find it!

  • anyone got thoughts on the Z510852AU? Thinking of pulling the trigger! (dont game & do digital marketing - browsing and im a multi tab whore)

    • +2

I personally wouldn't get anything without at least FHD resolution.

      • great point! weird question but do you think theres likely to be other specials?

        • +1

Bound to be, but some of these are FHD.

  • No discount on current models of Alienware 17?

  • I wonder what the 'Ozbargain08' coupon code was going to be for?

    • +2

You can check the revision. Dell emailed in saying one of the product is no longer available.

      • Hi Scotty, FYI tried to buy Ozbargain5 bundle and got an error message :-

Note: Coupon savings are only applied to items you have added to your cart.

        OzBargain - $520 Cash Off

It gave no discount, so obviously I didn't buy.

        Cheers.

        • Ozbargain05 , not Ozbargain5.
          You are missing a zero.

        • @bsmksg: I mistyped here, not on their site. 05 returns that error message. Thanks for the suggestion though, worth a shot.

  • I think the savings on the alienware is 140$ and not 540$, because there is already a cashback of 400$ which gets removed if we add the ozbargain10 code.

  • I'd happily buy the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 if their USB Type-C supported Thunderbolt 3 or even USB 3.1 at a minimum - my new laptop has to support an external GPU for video and gaming.

I'm tired of maintaining a desktop system when a laptop with an eGPU can do the same job.

Guess I'll have to keep dreaming for a while longer, or save to buy a Dell XPS.

  • +1

    No XPS deals?

  • anyone got this message when they try to check out? "The following coupons entered does not meet eligibility requirements. Click "View Details" link(s) for more information."

    • I know what the problem is now, never mind everyone.

      • how did you fix the problem?

        • +1

you need to search using the Bundle Code

        • @yaa903: Thanks :)

        • @yaa903: Hmm. Still doesn't work searching for Z510857AU.

    • Yep, I got it too.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 ($899 version).

  • Any xps 13 deals?

    • Not in this deal, but via the 20% off on eBay you can get some decent discounts.

      • $2339 for the 16gb xps is still a bit much. I'd rather the new MacBook.

        • If you say so….I wouldn't touch that thing with a pole

        • @klaw81:

          which one?

th xps 13? or the mac book?

  • I believe Y5185A3AU Alienware 15 R2(dell.com) $2,799 -$540 $2,259 100 units Ozbargain10 is not applicable anymore, it might have reached the 100 units limit.

  • Anyone able to advise if the Z510831AU (Inspiron 11 3000 Series) is better/worse than a Lenovo IdeaPad 100S? I see the SDD is greater in the DELL. Thanks

  • Sorry - Wrong post deleted

  • Used Ozbargain01 and bought an Inspiron 11 3000.
    Sub Total(s): $ 290.00
    GST: $ 29.00
    Total Price: $ 319.00

All reviews were positive, a good gift, specially a red one.

  • Dell New Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Core i5-6300HQ 1TB HDD 8GB RAM NVIDIA 4GB Win10 using C20ELF coupon on eBay is only - $1199.20
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-New-Inspiron-15-7000-Gaming-…

Thanks, $100 cheaper than advertised here.

However, if it's delivered from overseas from dell can I assume Customs is already paid for?

Just waiting for a deal on the i7 version.

    • All the Dells are delivered from overseas, imported by Dell so customs is already paid.

      • Thanks. I checked with Dell and they gave me the same info. Thanks.

  • Went for the Inspiron 11 3000. Does anyone know if there is a capacity limitation on the microSD slot i.e. will it accept/access 128GB cards? I did look at the Dell online documentation but didn't see anything.

  • Just a question: Did anyone else pay via paypal, received a "Order Acknowledgement" email immediately after purchase, and have not heard back from Dell ever since?

    • Yes, It happended to me. Paid by PayPal and received a voice message left on my number around 19:30 from 02 8405 5300, someone with indian accent that I couldn't understand what he says. Anyway, When I called Dell for follow back I noticed that order has not been processed because they have not been able to charge paypal or they have not been able to verify or any other reason and told me it should be cancelled.

Consequently, I explained that order was using a voucher that is not available anymore, so they matched the price after asking their supervisor and emailed me a new quote. I approved and provided credit card number on the phone for the new order.
I recommend you send email to [email protected] and also call Dell ANZ Customer care at 1 300 303 270, Have your internet reference number (in your acknowledgement email) ready.

      • Thanks for the info. After dealing with many useless DELL staff, I finally got mine sorted.
