Have to get one as daughter requires one for school next year

    How sad

    • Indeed!

    • for a Melb grammer school?
All these iPad will be used other than study 80% of the time was my experience and many other parents…

  • You might wanna put the storage size on the title.

    • Check!

  • Would they need 128GB for school purposes though?

  • No, I think the recommendation was 64GB

    • just curious mate. what school year is she in? and when you say "require", did they oblige her to get a 64GB ipad?

      • Starting Year 5. It was strongly recommended that she turn up with one next year!

wow talk about putting pressure on parents! When I was 10 years old, fancy stationery and Tamagotchis were expensive items in our school bags!

Good luck in your search for a reasonable priced ipad Mintynovember!

        • Thanks Zinger, We'll sort something out. ;)

        • My daughter will be in year 1 next year and get school has told all parents that ipads are "required" from next year.

        • @vodkamilkshake:

My daughter in prep THIS year and we had to have one. State school too…

@31mop: Wow! Can you believe that? Handing a $700+ device to a prep/grade 1 kid? And top that with a $20 subscription to some apple sham of device management.

        • That's pretty early for kids to be rocking iPads. I can see these getting stolen/lost en mass.

Haha. When I was in primary school, lockers did not have pad locks. They were just a sliding tub. Not even truly a locker. There wouldn't be anywhere safe to put this thing.

School bags were just hung outside the classroom. Again, completely unsecured.

But back then, no one had anything worth stealing. Just exercise books and lunch.

@lostn: mo money, mo money, mo money…

I feel like someone somewhere must be getting something back from apple else el cheapo android tablets could very well have served the purpose.

Wow mine are in yr 2 and they would have gotten so much out of it by yr 5. But in yr 5 the school should really be encouraging laptops. It's so much better than iPad with a keyboard. iPad is more useful teaching device for lower years.

        • What's up with all the negs?

          @vodkamilkshake:

Pretty soon they'll be telling mums with babies in their wombs to get an iPad.

  • ifrog.com.au have Australian stock ipads with cover by Apple for ~40-50 than this. If there was anything wrong with this one you'd have to send it back to Kogan I am guessing?

    • Yes but you post back to Australia. With my phone I was provided with freepost

  • ifrog are offering the same item at $632.79 delivery is also $16.95 (based on my postcode)

    • Yeah that's what I said, its more expensive but its Australian stock. Kogan is not and not covered by Australian warranty laws/consumer protection laws.

  • Good price. As posted above ifrog sells for around the same price.

You do understand that officeworks will pricebeat the Ifrog price by 5%. Its not $688 (5% off IFROG website price)

Damned did you read point 3?

    • There's rarely any "deals" for Australian stock.

  • Current ebay has 20% off with code C20ELF.

    I can find this one.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-Apple-iPad-Air-2-128GB-…

After discount should be AUD$612.8. It said AU stock.

    • Also says 1 year warranty. ISn't it meant to be 2 years?

  • Perhaps its not such a great deal after all!!

  • If you want to buy from Kogan wait for the next 20% off deal. They appear rather frequently on eBay.

Remember if buying for kids for school, you NEED to pay extra for Apple Care Plus. You need it - a broken screen is almost 100% to be expected.

Exchange iPad costs $65 with AppleCare, or many $ hundreds without it.

One of my son's friend's iPads was broken for the second time in 12 months when a child tripped over the school bag that had the iDevice inside.

It amazes me how the air 2 holds it value. It barely come down in price over the last 2 years since it came out.

    • That's just Apple, and the culture of its userbase.

The cheapest model iPad Mini 2, which is 3 years old is still $350 when it's on special. And this is viewed as a bargain.

You have to hand it to them, they've done a very good job keeping perceived value up.

      • It's an amazing product. Some kids at school with android eventually switched to apple since apple was more user friendly and more importantly some of the crucial learning apps only available on iTunes. Parents were warned but it was still up to them to buy which ever device they wanted but iPad is the preferred byod

  • My grade 2 twins have been using an iPad this year at school. I was hesitant at first but after a whole year I am just amazed at how it compliments the way they learn. There are fantastic education apps available, their school work is on portal and they often log in on iPad and do their homework from portal ie teacher might post a video for them to watch and they answer questions.

They can do all their own research now and do a full presentation using keynote or book creator etc

At home we use the brilliant app Ourpact to block them from playing games. We only unblock on weekends or occasionally.

I don't buy a lot of toys for my kids. An iPad is much more useful eventhough the initial investment is more exxy. We bought one and the other child is using an old one.

Next year Our school will be trialling Naplan on iPad.

From grade 3 they require a small laptop. We will buy something like Asus Eeeebook. Nothing fancy. My son is gr5 has been using one and it's fine. Most important is lightweight and small. He brings it everywhere with him. Even to gym, he will use wifi to do school work whilst waiting for me to finish a class.

There hasn't been any reports of kids breaking screens etc. They all require a cover and sleeve.

  • My little one's school requested an ipad since year 4.

Makes education cheaper but why gov doesnt invest where it should?

Now, he will be starting year 7 and we need to spend a little fortune for his books and a new ipad. What happens if someone cant provide this money?

    Anyways, great deal!!
