  • Does the fuel cleaner actually do anything?
Wondering if I should buy some, a bit like getting plaque off your teeth or it makes no difference to what normal fuel does anyway.

After approx 800km I found I got abit cleaner drive and a extra day on my fuel. Your experience may vary but it's only $4 to try.

Three words: Caltex Techron 5000. You can buy it from a Caltex service station (not the Woolies/Caltex Safeway/Caltex), it's a shade under $20. This is the only one that actually worked on my old commodore. :)

Put in a bottle a couple of weeks before you have the oil changed :)

          Hi Webbieggareth

Caltex Techron 5000 used to be imported from the USA. These were the BEST! They contain Techroline which is proprietory to Chevron.

Today, Caltex makes them locally and I have checked that they contain much less Techroline than the imported ones from USA.

If you can get your hands on the USA original, I would buy them in a heartbeat.

Still one of the best out there.

    Hi PVA

    Just my opinion.

Tried many injector cleaners without much success. Most cleaners only contain petroleum distillates which is already present in fuel we buy. Generally, I feel my car having slightly more power/torque likely from the additives like octane boosters or some other form of additive.

But weather it cleans of not, I remain sceptical. However, Toyota makes an injector cleaner sold exclusively at their service parts counters, I feel these do a better job at cleaning than most. The dealership charge a bit for them but they use it in house with Toyota Japan's approval. The product is made overseas (think USA or Japan).

(PS, I do not work for any car company but am mechanically trained).
