I wouldn't waste my time. I went to the Braybrook store in VIC last weekend. There is barely anything left. Maybe 2% of their overall inventory. Nothing worth buying.

    • Was going to ask what braybrook was like.. Haha

    • +1

      Same at Caroline springs

      • +1

        same at Roxburgh Park

      • +1

        same in Oakleigh

    • goes the same for williams landing

    • Unless you want a wireless power monitor, then they have dozens. $20 or probably less now

edit: Or shelves. They have stacks of heavy duty (500kg per shelf) shelves for $25(supports) and a couple bucks each for the shelves themselves haha

      • These aren't bad, I just finished a project logging the output from the transmitter with my raspberry pi, unfortunately this then showed my my pc was horribly inefficient when turned off.

        • Hmm, not bad. Was that hard to do? Any idea how accurate these things are?

        • OMG, I went to masters to get one today and couldn't find any of them. Asked at the counter - some guy bought them ALL lol
There had to be 50 units there at least

        • @outlander: there were about five left at Carrum Downs yesterday. Don't know if still there now

        • +1

          @outlander:

Not too hard, all the work was software, for the hardware I bought a TV Tuner Receiver Stick RTL2832U+R820T2 then modified some of the code from here https://github.com/magellannh/RPI_Efergy/blob/master/EfergyR…

I think the main changes I made were to lock it to my device (to screen out the signal from some of my neighbors) and also to send my data to my thingspeak channel.

Regarding the accuracy it seems about right based on unpluging single devices and testing using a watt meter.

The main problem I have is when it was installed the clamp on mine is around both the hot water t33 cable and standard t11 cable so it shows combined usage of the two meters. I haven't had two bills since installing it so so not had a chance to compare that way.

Wake me up when everything's free AND they also reimburse cost of petrol for driving to their store … ZZzzzz

    • Oh no, I wouldn't go out of your way to go there now
Wait till December and bring a bucket to fill up with nuts and bolts

  • +1

yep…dregs indeed. checked my local this morning before hitting bunnings…its just scrap & still overpriced stuff at this point in time

  • It's very hit and miss - most of it has been well picked over

In saying that a real shame to see it go

    • +2

Yes I agree, real shame to see it go.
Woolworths and failures are becoming not uncommon lately, wonder why?

      • +4

        No gumption.

You walk into the market and don't give any chance to succeed with the average length of a store opening for two years (their words) and then close it down as soon as you get a poor result

I have no doubt within a few years this would have been one of the most profitable parts of their business. They had already reached over $1 BN of sales, which was up on 30% YOY and no doubt with some clever advertising and giving people time to change preference they would have succeeded

  • My local was dismantling the garden area when i was last there. It's over guys, it's finally over.

  • +5

I walked into my local woolies yesterday and noticed that every check-out was using Masters branded plastic bags. At least some of the left overs have found a new home.

    • That is because masters are using canvas bags instead of plastic now. Good quality

  • +10

Overall i think it was great that masters came into the market here. The best things to come out of it were:
    Bunnings now has air-conditioning
Bunnings now has products on their website (would be better if it progressed to shopping)

If anyone is near south morang can you check it out and advise on what stock there is, incl timber yard

    • +1

Also Masters had reviews on the website which would be nice, like other overseas hardware stores eg homedepot.ca - I just picked one power tool at random and it had over 600 reviews!

    • +5

Exactly. Bunnings also had their margins reduce since Masters came in. They either reduced their prices to be competitive or reduced them to make it harder for them to succees. Either way with no competition its not a good situation

      • Yep going to miss the Friday night bargains, staff asking if you needed help, and the ryobi bargain

        • +1

The service was great. I know this was added to by the low traffic numbers in store but even the buzzers were a great idea

  • A couple of weeks ago my store had a heap of ceiling fans available. Hopefully they're still there and would be getting cheaper. Need a few for my house.

    • +1

Most of the Aldi stores have discounted the DC ceiling fan that was on here about a month ago. Now $149, which in my opinion is very good buying.

    • +2

Masters is closing down, doors to close soon, staff numbers have been reduced weekly!!
As Chrig put it "As I keep on reminding people from December there will be no discount with an uncompetitive landscape. "

Most stock has been moving quickly, if not management have been reducing prices, one store had random 20 minute red light specials over the weekend.
Bargains are there and remember one persons junk is anothers treasure. Xmas presents ?
You need to get down there asap, some people are trying multiple stores to find what they need.

      • +1

I wish I had seen these red light specials - I went to Hawthorn East then and it was bare

        • +2

          Are you opening a Brothel?

  • -4

    Waste if time

  • You could probably pick up some ex-display powertools very cheaply. Saw a hitachi plunge router going for around 200 a few days ago, but missing the collet chuck and it wasn't variable speed.

    • Picked up a jawsaw for $30 last weekend, with the extension pole. Wouldn't have considered it otherwise. Think it was still there because there was no pricing on it whatsoever, and the saw was on a separate shelf to the pole.

Also got a $50 gate, unfortunately no gate hinges left.

  • +4

Gotta say I'm surprised that Mitre 10 didn't buy them at a bargain basement price or at least take up cheap leases

  • +1

Down there yesterday. Pretty bare, but still some bargains to be had, but really the only way to get them is to speed walk though the whole joint. Can't even hit the aisles your interested in because they shift them around every time you go!

    Pic of the discount board

    • +1

Funnily enough for person who upvoted me, I did indeed pick up 2 tins of paint!

  • +2

Unless you want screws, a lamp, maybe a garden feature or a drill without a battery or a coffee table, don't bother going to keysborough. There is a KFC next door and a Bunnings over the road if you really want to waste a trip

  • I went there 2 weeks ago. hard to find anything remotely potential useful. came out empty handed

  • +2

Lots of paint, Rollers, decking oil, polyurethane sealer but anything else remotely useful will be gone after this weekend
Still some decent castor wheels to fix on toolboxes, hardened steel bolts and did see these little multitool sander batt operated in paint section but they were $260- 60%, so bloody exy

  • Surely it must be costing them more in advertising and staff wages than they are getting in sales. They should just dump the rest in landfill and be done with it…

  • If anyone is close to a store with Triton 18V batteries in stock (preferably 3 or 4 Ah), please let me know if you'd be prepared to buy a couple and mail them to me in Canberra. Cheers.

  • It would be great if the started consolidating stock in one or two stores per state.

  • There are plenty of Triton 18V power tools left at the Box Hill store.
Impact driver is about $60 which is a great price

    I got a couple of 1500mm x 3000mm privacy screen rolls for $11 each

  • +2

does anyone know if Masters is going to sell EVERYTHING in their stores?? I want their playground!

    • I saw signs that the cafe was being sold. They had prices on the mugs and stuff lol.

    • The playgrounds are going into grays online lol

  • I went into Albion Park Masters this morning and it is indeed shrinking rapidly. There is still some useful stuff though (I spent around $80).

At this point they have no 'outdoor' or 'garden' or 'electrical' section as such so it's a quick/easy browse of around 10 aisles..

Still a fair bit of plumbing stuff left, pots, stanley and worx power tools and paint.

A few mowers and garden power tools and so on as well.

They had XL coveralls for about $15 (I think) and some nice kitchen baskets and wine racks (the german branded stuff) was 60% off - still more pricey than I could afford.

  • +1

Guy 'working' at carrara store said liquidator's told them an extra 15% off at the checkout over the weekend
Heaps of timber stains, decking oil
Some of you guys might think about doing your parents deck or verander
Heaps of polyurethane sealer treatment for furniture ect Rollers n pole, too easy
Get it all looking top notch for christy
So cheap, you'll never see these prices again

  • There were a bunch of bulk discount specials on various things that were left (mouldings and so on) but I didn't pay too much attention unfortunately as I'd already bought that stuff a week or two ago.

it would have been nice to get an extra 20% off what I'd already bought - but if I'd waited until the discount arrived the stuff itself would have been long gone…

The 'extra' discounts varied between 10 and 20% - after the original discount was applied (i.e not directly cumulative)

  • Just did another visit to Scoresby/Knoxfield, Vic today. Almost all gone now. I bought the square floating shelves set, some wood stain wipes, a matching kids soap dispenser/toothbrush holder pair, and 3 $1 mini rugs that I'm going to put over my central heating vents to stop the robovac from getting stuck.

  • Anymore % off yet?
