:) if you feel like that thn dont buy.NOONE is Forcing you

.. it is for those who are interested to buy and can save bit on this kind of expensive laptop…

    • +17

It may be, but if people absoloutely want this laptop, and this price is cheaper than anywhere else, then it is a deal for this laptop.

I'm not going to neg this deal because I don't like the laptop.

    • +1

same argument can go with lots of things, e.g Leica

    • Here comes the Hattteeeerrrssss

    • Its your opinion - All apple products are expensive :-) . Does that mean people are not buying them ?

    • Any cheaper alternative?

  • Just extra the touch bar then the price is up like $500… not worth it…
Another part to get water damage easily

    • The touch bar has potential, especially being able to use the finger print scanner…..unfortunately despite understanding their insistence on all usb c, it just loses it there for me.

    • +1

The CPU is also better in the touchbar models

    • +1

How about you read the specs. The touch bar model has better specs/more ports.

  • If you know how to do bargain. Come to JB and get 15% off
I always come to JB and ask for 15% off anything after 5 mins talk

    • Doesn't look like JB have the new touch bar model in yet though…… Not on their website

      • +3

Not in website but I saw it displayed in store. They had stock for sale too. 10% off too on weekend. If still going, then stacked with 10% off jbhifi gift cards at coles/woolies may be the better deal.

    • +4

I really doubt you'd be able to do that with Apple products. Margins are pretty thin.

    • I'm so suprise. I got negative vote due to tell them where to negotiate.
      Hater every where

      • You have to expect that….it's a post about Apple products.

All the trolls come out in force

        • At least someone gave me positive vote now hahahhaha

        • @ZombieLover:
Gave you a couple and I'm sure others did but you got more negs to cancel them by the grumpy crowd!!

  • Must be price matching the good guys, although on TGGs website, says product not available… : https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/apple-macbook-pro-13-inch-wit…

  • If it came with with the photo book I'd buy it. Ground breaking ideas a dual core cpu? Never change Apple.

  • No one has them. Even Apple shows them available in first week of January 2017 for most Melbourne Apple stores.
Looks like retailers are taking pre orders

    • Sold more in first two weeks of launch than Microsoft Surface sold in a year. Apparently best selling Apple laptop ever….who would've thought!!

      • -1

So they keep saying for every other new release. It's all for show..

        • Sorry you are right…got the data wrong.

“Its data looks good for Apple: four times more revenue has been made fromMacBook Pros in two weeks than Surface Books have generated in a year”

        • @slipperypete: Surface products are not meant to sell in high margins, you can see this as microsoft make a decent profit from the surface line even though its low numbers.

        • -1

          @joshm998:
Not quite sure what you mean Josh.
“Surface products are not meant to sell in high margins” by not high margins you mean not high profits per unit? But this contradicts your next sentence…“microsoft make a decent profit from the surface line even though its low numbers”

It seems that the new Apple is selling heaps more and also making higher profit per machine…..that is also because it is a brand new line and heaps are jumping on to get the newest and brightest( I doubt there is no shortage of people buying them for 'status' reasons too)

        • @slipperypete: Apple is selling a lot of machines (which isn't that surprising as lots of people had been holding out for Skylake, I believe). However, because of the relatively high cost per unit - compounded by the fact that they solder everything onto the board so people are more likely to buy top-spec machines - the 'highest revenue' gives an inflated perception of sales compared to what number of units probably would.

        • @2be8:
OK, I was under the impression that Apple make high profit margins per machine…or is that just iPhones?

Also, correct me if I am wrong but I thought Surface components are also soldered on and not really upgradable which would then follow the same path as what you are saying for the Macbooks?

        • +1

          @slipperypete:
I suspect they probably make very high profit margins per machine on the Macbooks as well. The fact that only Macs run OSX means many people will not jump ship even if they hike the prices.

The comment about price, though, was just because Apple is comparing revenue with others rather than units, and the high cost-per-unit of the MBP will mean the same revenue = less MBP units compared to others. I think they're selling heaps of units, but by using revenue they can make it look even bigger.

As you say, the RAM is soldered onto the surface pro too (but the SSD isn't). I'm less critical of that on the surface pro because it is a tablet. In contrast, Dell is managing to produce laptops thinner than the MBP but with removable SSD and RAM (XPS15; XPS13 has RAM soldered on).

Note that I say this as a (somewhat disenchanted) Mac user.

“Note that I say this as a (somewhat disenchanted) Mac user.”

          Yep…same here.

I like the Apple stuff, but it is OSX that is keeping me here. I simply cannot stand Windows.

        • +1

          @slipperypete:
Have you spent much time with Windows 10? I don't use it on an everyday basis, but it actually seems pretty damn good. I think I'd struggle transitioning to it on my main system because I'm so used to the OSX/Linux shells (bash, zsh) and file system models but really I think that's probably the only thing that would seriously get in the way for me now.

I'm a bit stuck because I use Adobe and Microsoft Office tools that I can't use natively on Linux, and I don't really want to have to do all that in a Windows VM>

        • @2be8:

No, I haven't had a good look….I'm pretty used to OSX and would struggle to change over. That said I nearly threw my first OSX out of the window in the first week trying to getting used to it so maybe it wouldn't be so hard.

I'm always keeping a lookout for alternatives so maybe I will have another look. Despite liking the Macbooks (and defending their pricing) I think there are other machines that would suit me better. I spend a fair amount of time using a computer (not technical though) so it is nice having a good looking machine…and I love the trackpad…but there are so many alternatives in the 'upper end' of the market and more keep arriving

          Thanks for the suggestion

  • Apple failed these sets of Macbook 'Pro's' and its only gonna get worse. Shame iPhone is really keeping Apple afloat these days..

    • +1

      Nope, you are completely uninformed.
      Selling like hotcakes

    • What makes me laugh about these comments is that people think they know better than Apple…who spends multi-millions on research and development and marketing. It isn't that they are 'out of touch' or that it is all failing because Jobs isn't there. They are taking a calculated risk based on HUGE amounts of input and analysis.

If I was going to make my 'armchair' evaluation it would be that they have jumped too early with the all USB-C scenario and that this was a poor decision…however sales seem to prove otherwise.

No matter how much I would want to buy this, it simply isn't for me. I could make excuses for everything but the fact is I plug my iphone into my computer everyday for hotspot. For this reason alone it just isn't convenient(for me)….hell, even the newest iPhone won't connect directly!!

      • +3

Apple just market directly to the people who don't know better than Apple.

        • -5

Nah, ditched the shitbox that is Windows 5 years ago.
Its actually Windows users who don't know any better

@yoyomablue: Seems like you're enjoying your free high horse, too!

I am sick. Really sick of listening others if what is "BETTER" to their eyes.

First, linux. Hahahaha it works for thise nerds memorizing 200 cmds to do anything. If that floats your boat…

And then windows. Promise after promises about battery life, reponsiveness etc etc. what a load of crap. Went through so many laptops with the same problems. Trackpad that is half working, endless update craps, and try flipping down your monitor without sleeping or shutting down. Do that more than 3 times. Good luck!

I hate apple product. They are expensive, expensive and expensive. Unfortunately they are the only one that works for MY need. Not perfect but works.

        • @cloud68: So why did you just comment to say what's better in your eyes if you're really sick of listening others if what is "BETTER" to their eyes..?

        • “Apple just market directly to the people who don't know better than Apple.”

Maybe more than a bit of truth in this…but that is generally to the more geeky among us who are more technically computer focussed. If I was a total geek I wouldn't have or need an Apple computer and would also probably spend a fair amount of my time posting anti-Apple comments too.

        • -2

@XeKToReX: probably looks that way down there from Windows users

        • @cloud68:
Pretty well sums it up…good comment

        • @yoyomablue: Can someone link me to burn wards in Melbourne? My Windows shitbox appears to have broken again :(

        • -1

          @XeKToReX: Don't you mean the proctology ward…?

        • @XeKToReX:

That just lead to more arguments. This is a post about apple product and people trolls. I'm here to see if anyone can get cheaper price or else for this God damn expensive piece of gadget

I am NOT a fan boy. Thats what a fan boy would do

        • +1

@cloud68: 14.5% off RRP by doing Officeworks price beat. I was about to get it this morning on the 15" touchbar until they checked a bit further and found that Good Guys don't have stock

  • +2

Did you buy the extra dongles too? :P

  • Can I go to JB and ask for price match?

    • +1

No one is stopping you, go for it!

  • Waiting for the touch bar to move into mech keyboards. Always wanted an optimus maximus keyboard of sorts

  • -1

Waiting for Microsoft to catch Apple's market value.
Need to sell products not bricks….

  • that price…. speechless

  • +1

Can't believe how many blatant Apple shills are on Ozbargain…

    • +1

      Irony much?

    • Settle down Jamiea, don't take it all to heart

  • I would buy two surface Pro tablets or perhaps three Dell or Thinkpad laptops using the same amount of money and enjoy multiple devices convenience.

  • +1

bought one from office works the day before yesterday when the good guys were selling it for $2429. Got it price matched and got 5% discount on top of that which made the final price $2307.55.

    • +1

Were you able to pick up stock anywhere or was it a preorder ?

      • Went into store to see if they price match and beat the good guys. They were happy to do it, but the Office works garden city didn't have any touch bar model in stock. I paid in store and they had it delivered from their warehouse next morning. :)

        • Awesome thanks

  • Does anyone know how long this deal is running for ?

    • Picked up my mbp 13" tb model yesterday after buying it for $2307.55 on Sunday (had to order it in) from Officeworks. Got lowest price match guarantee 5% off plus the initial Black Friday 10% off from Good Guys website.

Build quality is excellent although it does feel heavier in a good way than my old Asus UX302 Ultrabook. Screen is great and the brightness can go super bright to the point of needing sunglasses on, no joke. Speakers are easily the best i've heard in this size of laptop. I went with this model over the none TB model for the jump in cpu and extra ports really. The TB was just a bonus for me but I do like it especially the fingerprint scanner. I think it just a case of retraining the brain to use the tb instead of the touchscreen on my old laptop.

Haven't had an issue with speed, feels snappy enough to use for everyday tasks no problem. I do more CPU intensive tasks and gaming on a desktop PC anyway. Battery life is also excellent so no quibbles there. Yes the 4 USB C ports can be annoying for connectivity but 6-12 months from now you will really see the benefit.

  • Is Apple kidding themselves, no one wants a touch bar let alone at 2.5K price tag for a 13" laptop….used the love apple….I miss you Steve
