AmEx Statement Credits: Westfield Gift Card, Myer, Woolworths, Nespresso, Rebel, Dymocks, Witchery, Body Shop, BCF, and More » All Comments

  • I have $50 worth of 'credit' appearing in my pending transactions on my amex. Descriptions haven't come through yet but i have a feeling this is the 2 x $25 AMEX credits from the Westfield giftcards i bought on 3/12 from Chatswood. Never received an email. Will confirm back when i know more.

    • have you done split payment ?

      • Yep split onto 3 cards (3rd card i forgot to register which is why i only have $50 credit)

    • No credit yet (not in pending either) for Westfield Chatswood purchases made on Friday 2nd Dec.

It's rare they issue credit combined, i.e. $50 (instead of 2 x $25), unless you complained and it was credited manually.

      • Sorry just to clarify I have $50 in total pending but can't see if they are 2x$25 credits. And no haven't contacted them

    • did you contact amex before having this credit appear in your account?

  • Thanks OP for the bargains, glad I registered just on time before it expired for the Westfield and Myers deal in particular.
This is putting a seriously big hole in my bank account….. but cannot resist as my name implies LOL!!

  • I can understand with other deals however why is everyone concerned about split payments at Westfield when you can easily just by $100 gift cards from heaps of different service counters or buy one card pay and say actually I want to buy another now straight after payment etc. Unlike Harvey Norman or others where you might want to buy a $600 item, so you split payment over 2 cards or a $1,200 item so you split payment over 4 cards etc, so you get back $100 credit on each $300 spend this is not necessary on Westfield though.

    • +3

Because Westfield charges $2.95 (or $4.95 for XS) service fee per Gift Card issued.

      • Ok cool, clearly missed that, thanks for the response.

  • In the same boat as most of you guys here about not getting a confirmation email and credit back for the Westfield GC's, how is everyone approaching this situation? Wait til the 5 days has elapsed, and email Amex then? Or get onto it ASAP?

    • +2

Personally I am going to wait and give them the 5 days. "Credit should appear on your billing statement with 5 business days from qualifying spend…." Even though we usually get the email confirmation straight away, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. But if nothing by Monday, I will be giving them a call.

      • yeah same here. bought on 2/11 at westfield sydney cbd, no confirmation and no cash back till today 7/11

    • I'm going to give them 5 business days then give them a call. From everything I've read and from family members' experience, Amex should be a pleasure to deal with and rectify the problem.

      • +1

        yep
Ive had no issue querying and getting manually credited for at least a couple of promos like this which didnt turn up within the week

      • What is their contact number? On the website I can only see a way to send them a message (which I have already done but not received a reply).

        Thanks.

        • I called the Amex general number, and just pushed the options to speak to an operator.
She told me everyone is having issues with Westfield.
She told me to wait until the statement cycle ends, also suggested I wait 2 weeks.
She did acknowledge it can take 5 to 60 days.
If in a couple of weeks it hasn't applied, then she said I can call back and they can apply a manual credit.

        • +1

@giu: Sounds like a generic response

      • 2x$25 credit appeared on my accounts without contacting Amex. 5 days on the dot. :)

  • so i did a WW order, got my cashback but WW Fd up and didn't send my order so it's been cancelled. Does that mean I get a free $20?! or does AMEX reverse the credit?

    • +1

      Most likely get reversed.

There's mixed reports about people keeping the credits with partial returns or different merchant id.

      • interesting. i'll report back. well they split the refund (first for out of stock, then the cancellation) so maybe I'll get a happy bonus after the disaster that happened!

OH and i wonder if the WW Bonus Reward points of 2000 will get reversed? this could be a total win. haha

    • I was in the same situation a couple of months ago, got a partial refund due to item out of stock. I got to keep the rebate.

  • I got one Westfield $300 + $2.95 Giftcard at Chatswood Level 3 Service Desk using 3 different cards with Apple Pay.

I was intially met with some resistance by the girl (25-30yo looking) stating that she can do split payments for me only if I can show that the name on the card matched the name on my ID. But it was Apply pay and has no name, I showed her my physical Amex + ID anyway and told her I'm the primary card holder for the other supplementary cards. And she went ahead and did it for me.

I got confirmation emails for all three cards for Westfield GC and Apple Pay.

I used the giftcard at a Woolworths outside Westfield and it worked.

    • I think you're the first one getting confirmation emails from Chatswood. Amex may have finally fixed their systems. I bought my gc's from chatswood on last Thursday, no emails or no credits yet.

      • I bought 3 * $100 Westfield red gcs from Chatswood on Tuesday - received all emails straight away and credits have posted overnight.

      • -1

I brought gc from Chatswood on last Saturday - 3rd Dec, no emails and also no credits yet. I have a feeling that anyone brought gc on 1st Dec, 2nd Dec, 3rd Dec and 4 Dec all did not receive their statement credits regardless where did they buy the gc from. Maybe be Amex put the promotion period to be started on 5 Dec instead of 1st Dec. Therefore Amex system did not pick up those date we purchased.

        • where did you get that idea about starting 5 dec?

        • No the promo period is correct (confirmed by customer service). It must be the back-end issue that some Westfield shopping centres were not included in the 'trigger' in the first place, and looks like it has finally been fixed across all Westfield S/Cs (to the benefit of late goers).

        • @feihong: Wonder if we should wait… or contact amex.. I looking to wait as I cbf talking to them

        • What I mean is the promotion period is correct as from 1st Dec, but maybe Amex back office key in the incorrect promotion date on Amex system.

        • @Turd: If you don't mind, contact them anyway for the manual credit, and then wait for potential pleasant surprise down the track (system generated credit).

        • @Purple: That certain would explain the chaos!

        • I purchased mine on 2nd Dec and got both the emails and statement credits.

        • @Turd: I rang them yesterday and been told to wait until Monday. If I don't get it till Monday, I will ring them to manually trigger this. Based on my past experience, they never missed one credit but who knows.. this might be the first.. will keep you posted

        • +2

@superbass: I have sent a email to Amex Connect for bank issue Amex card. I will report it back once I receive a response from Amex.

        • +1

@Turd: Last time when the Woolworths credit didn't trigger for most people due to being set at $120USD rather than $120AUD they eventually credited the $20 without having to contact them. I'm going to give it a few weeks.

      • I got all 3 Westfield credits and apple pay credits.

On the other hand I got no confirmation email for spending at Myer with two transactions $100 then $50. I only got confirmation on a card after spending $150 in one transaction. Might need to call up later.

  • Spent $70 at SCA (Wheel cleaner, glass cleaner, heavy duty body wash, chamois etc)…got instant email
Spent $100 to buy an XS card (95.05+4.95 fee), got e-mail straight away (Fountain Gate)
And Also got email instantly for buying $150 GC in-store at Myer (with a $10 free GC)

  • I received the credits for the wf cards this morning. I bought them on Tuesday in MT Druitt with split payments and via android pay.Now I am waiting for the credits for android pay.

    • received the credits for android pay today :)

  • Should we email amex now? Do separate emails or just one per card lot?

    • Maybe you can try live chat for Amex issued cards, just told the customer service your base card number and ask them to credit the base card and sup cards.

  • Just tried Westfield Sydney again, they still wouldn't let me split payment (only 2 cards). WTF!

    • Try VISA?

  • Anyone had the experience of Amex manually crediting your account because you hadn't received the triggered email, but then still having the offer appear as not used on your online account. In this case, would buying a 2nd Westfield gift card with the same Amex possibly give you a 2nd discount? Wishful thinking I know.

    • If the 2nd round tigers an email and automated $25 credit you should be fine. But asking for another manual $25 would be out of the question I believe as they will have a record of your $25 manual credit from the first round. Either way report back with what happens!!!!

  • Bought the Westfield GC and got confirmation email from Amex almost instantly.

  • Has anyone had any luck buying Coles Myer GC in Myer Meblourne and still received the $10 Myer GC offer?

    • Not in Melbourne, but in Perth City, WA. No problem at all.

    • In sydney CBD store they have specifically mentioned for this offer that its not applicable for coles myer gift card

      • -1

Just say, that's fine, and say you will still pay for it with AMEX for the points.

Then wait for the AMEX CREDITS to come through.

Edit: oh the free $10 Myer card for buying a Myer gift card. Yeah that isn't allowed, since Coles Myer group is different to the Myer card

        • Yep. i did buy the CM gift card but funnily enough myer payment system did not let me pay it via Andriod pay.

        • @lokesh7: did u have NFC payments directed at Android pay or another app?

        • @Turd: Andriod Pay, already done it for 4 cards at other places but at myers there machine said not allowed and to insert or swipe the card. No big deal anway

    • No only for Myer cards

  • Wow, how did I miss this when it was first posted :/
Oh well, Nespresso and the body shop should still come in handy.

  • +1

Just got a response from Amex after sending an email to enquire about Westfield credits not showing up:

You'll be glad to know that I have immediately issued two credits of $25.00 to your account for both the Cards. You will be able to view the credits within 3-5 working days. I hope this puts your concern to rest and brings a smile to your face.

Generally the statement credits are automatically issued within 5 business days from the spend date. However, sometimes there is an issue with the merchant registrations due to which the system does not detect the eligible charge and hence the credit is not automatically applied to the account. You should not worry at all as we have already taken care of this matter for you.

    Have a wonderful day ahead!

Purchased a couple westfield giftcards with mobile wallet - looks like I will be getting the $25 credits afterall :-)

    • Thanks Centurylegend for letting us know. May I ask when did you send the email to Amex?

      • Amex replied in about 24 hours

        • Thanks centurylegend. I have sent an email to Amex today for the Bank issue Amex card.

    • Hey centurylegend, did you email Amex via their Secure Messaging Centre?

I'm dreading having to chase American Express for seven credits of $25 …

      • +1

That's right. Just copy and paste your message, should be quick.

        • Hey mate for secure messgae what option as in topic and subtopic did you use cant find any close to amex offers?

        • @chiragv99:
I chose Membership Rewards -> Promotions & Offers

        • Thanks Mate!

    • Hi Centurylegend, just was wondering if yours was a bank issues AMEX or an AMEX one? Sent an email via their bank issued online form on Monday but still no reply.

      • I got both, but am yet to receive a reply for the purchase made on my bank issued AMEX card

        • Thanks centurylegend!

  • As this is the first time we've signed up for Amex offers I was just wondering does the transaction register quicker if you insert card rather than tap&go? I just bought a $150 coles myer gift card from Myer (via tap&go) but have not received any emails (the lady asked if I wanted to buy a Myer card to get the $10 giftcard but I declined). From what I read most people got their trigger confirmation email instantly…Does the deal also get mark as redeemed instantly? Do we always receive the confirmation email once we have used up an offer? Sorry for the Noob questions!

    • +1

Your Questions: does the transaction register quicker if you insert card rather than tap&go - Not necessary, when I brought the first Myer gc, I insert the card, the email did not come until 1 hour later. Then when I purchased the 2nd Myer gc (different day), the email was trigged immediately. As long as you have register the offer, do not need to worry as you can always ask Amex to apply manual statement credit.

Does the deal also get mark as redeemed instantly - NO, until statement credit appeared in your account, then it will mark redeemed.

Do we always receive the confirmation email once we have used up an offer - Most of the time, but sometime we did not receive the confirmation email, but the statement credit will still come through as long as you have registered the offer and met the spent criteria.

      • Thank you so much for your informative response :) My email came through for the Myer offer so just the Westfield one I am waiting on :)

  • went to Chatswood Westfield on last Sat and used both mobile wallet offer as well as $25 credit offer for red CG. Also went to Rebel sport and redeemed $20 credit offer. No email for the Westfield nor the credit until yesterday, whereas all the mobile wallet and rebel offer received both email and credit. i have emailed Amex and they did manual adjustment for the $25 credit. they also mentioned that "it will take upto 3 - 5 days for the mannual credit to show on my account. Be assured, as long as you make a charge at an eligible merchant we will honour the credit for you."

  • Emails came thru on both Myer and Westfield today almost immediately. Pretty confident that I will see the credits without any hassles.

  • Used Westfield, Rebel and Myer offers in that order on 1st and 3rd December. Received Rebel and Myer emails almost instantly. Credits appeared 2 days later. Still no sign of Westfield email or credit. Might shoot an email on Monday to Amex.

  • I also has not received anything from Amex about this westfield offer.

  • I got one credit out of 8.. waiting for others

    • Can you recall that particular credit that you received from Amex for Westfield promotion, when did you make that purchase?

      • Yeah Westfield one.. I did transaction on 1 Dec

        • Finally, the credit arrived for your purchased made on 1st Dec. The rest of your 7 Westfield purchase is it made after the 1st Dec? I asked because I purchased Westfield GC on the 2 and 3 Dec, I am still waiting for the credit.

    • Did you contact AMEX or it was automatic?

      • This one is automatic.. Now thinking to contact them.. It has been 6-7 days…

        • Cool. I will wait then!

  • I got the credit on one of the Amex card for Westfield GC bought on 4th Dec. However, the credit was for $10. Will call Amex, as my email said spend $100 and get $25 back.

    • Did you pay with your mobile phone (Android Pay)?

      • Yes, used Android Pay. Would it mean it won't count towards the $25 cashback?

        • +2

It means the $10 was for mobile wallets and NOT the Westfield credit of $25.

          Both offers stack

        • @Turd: thanks mate, I'll keep you posted.

        • @Turd:
Happy to report I got the $25 cashback on both the Amex without having to call them.

  • +2

Did a live chat with them and they credited the Westfield Offer. I asked why it may not have come through and they said "Yes, we've identified an issue where the charges are not being captured as qualified transactions for the offer credit. Therefore, we're manually issuing credits from our end."

    • I did a live chat regarding the Westfield gift card credits not appearing. They said they would do credits for my Amex issued card but I needed to call a number for the credits for my bank issued card.

      • Can you share us that number, please? Thanks :)

        • I didn't save the chat transcript or write down number and the transcript wasn't emailed to me. May try email as suggested by others.

      • For bank issue card, you can use this link: https://www316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/un/iforms.do…

I have sent a request via the above link yesterday for bank issued card and still waiting for the response (up to 48 house).

For Amex issued card, I have decided to wait a bit longer. I believed Amex is aware of the issue now, hopefully their back office will do manual adjustments even we don't call.

        • It would be great if you could let us know when they reply. I used the form on Monday but didn't get a reply :-(

        • @milomiki: Will do as soon as I receive a reply. I am not worry about Amex issued card because Amex can view the transactions. For bank issue card, Amex is unable to view the transactions and make it harder to ask for statement credit.

        • @Purple: My thinking too! I already emailed amex for my bank issued cards

        • @Purple: I totally get you. When I didn't have a bank issued AMEX credits were much easier to get back. Its now that I've a bank issued one where its harder. Thanks!

        • +2

@milomiki: I live chat with Amex to ask for contact tel no for bank issue card for the statement credit of Westfield, here is the no: 1300 132 639.

        • Thanks for the update.

        • Rang the number and they knew nothing about it at first. Then after putting me on hold, told me I needed to fill out details on the amex connect website.

        • @Purple: Legend! Thanks heaps Purple!

        • @cnrmlj: Check your Amexconnect as both of my Amex account and amexconnect are showing as “redeemed”. I have feeling they are all fixed up now. Now waiting for the money to be credited to all the accounts.

        • @cnrmlj and milomiki: I have received an email from Amex regarding the bank issued card, the contents of the mail are as below:

          Thank you for your enquiry.

Sorry to hear that you didn’t receive a confirmation email.

We can confirm that the Card ending in XXXXX has been enrolled for the Westfield Gift Card offer.

Although you didn’t receive the confirmation email, please be assured if the transaction is valid you will receive a credit.

Please note as per T&Cs, the statement credit is normally applied within 5 business days but it may take up to 90 days from the end of the offer.

According to our system record, the statement credit has been applied to your account on 9 Dec.

Please allow 3-5 business days for the credit to be appeared on your statement.

Thank you for participating in AMEX offer.

    • "Therefore, we're manually issuing credits from our end."

So best not to bother them with an email re: issue, ie take away man power from doing their jobs or are they only manually crediting after receiving complaints from individuals?

  • Has anyone tried to make a purchase at First Choice Liquor with Android Pay?

    • +1

      Yes

    • I bought Coles Myer gift card n got instant email confirmation

  • I triggered the Westfield offer last Friday but till Wednesday I yet to receive the confirmation email.

I login to my Amex account and sent the secure email to Amex.

They said they will put thru the transactions and will credit me back in next 24-48 hours.

  • I went to pay for a Westfield giftcard, the machine said declined but actually charged me $104.95, so I had to call up AMEX and they have now cancelled the transaction (does not appear anywhere on my statement) but at the time I received an email that said thanks for shopping small.

Does anyone know if I'll receive the cashback if I go make a purchase at Westfield again?

    • +1

      Yep should be np

    • Lol thanks for shopping small?? Wrong promo?

  • i have the myer offer saved on my card. My wife just bought a $100 gift card with $10 gift card. She didn't ask me before buying. I could have got $35 back from amex had she bought a $150 card. is there anything i can do now.

    • +3

buy another $50 worth of gc.

      • can it multiple transactions. i thought it was in single transaction

        • +1

          Total spend…should be fine

    • Deleted comment - basically what Purple said.

  • +1

yes, correct. The offer term is: spend $150 or more on that Card, in one or more transactions.

  • Westfield Offer:
Just got Amex to manually apply a $25 credit on 3/7 of my Amex cards (Chatswood NSW purchases)

Since they weren't automatically triggered … I wonder if I can go to a different Westfield in Greater Sydney for another 7x$100? Mt Druitt,
Burwood and Liverpool had instant emails according to all the comments?

    • +1

Please go ahead try and report back

      • +1

Not going to bother trying now.
My Amex issued cards all say Redeemed for the Westfield offer overnight!

  • +5

Morning all, I have noticed that Westfield offers on my AMEX issued AMEXs are now showing as 'redeemed' after more than 1 week of 'saved to the card'.. I think the they have finally resolved the issue and everyone should get their credits soon!

    • Thanks for the update - I checked mine again and sure enough it looks like overnight, all my cards which were still awaiting movement now show the Westfield offer as "redeemed". That's usually a good sign that the credit is coming soon :)

      • Thank you. I just checked my account. Yes, it showed as "redeemed with card". However, only one account was not showed as "redeemed with card". Hopefully it will come soon….

Also, just checked the bank issue card, also indicated "Redeemed" for the Westfield promotion.

        • How do you check bank issued cards for offer redemption status?

        • +2

@SBOB: log into your amexconnect account and you should be able to see the status there

    • +1

Both my Amex account and amexconnect are showing as redeemed. I guess they are all fixed up now. Now waiting for money credited to my account

    • I also just noticed mine now says "redeemed" for both my AMEX. Now to hopefully see the credits come through next week.

  • Has anyone is able to spilt payments with Westfield gift card lately? Today Westfield staff will not let me and said they received an email from Amex said No split payments (most properly is from Westfield management instead of Amex), but she said I can split payments with Visa. What a joke ! I do not want to argue and I walk away.

    • +1

The hoops they make people jump through does leave a bit of bitterness. I think Westfield management is short sighted. Certainly this is a promotion made by their media/advertising department but the way it is being run seems to be creating more of a negative effect than a positive one.

Is the extra $2.95 x 30000 = $88500 worth the negativity posted about them online?

    • +1

Use mobile pay for the second card. Or cover the Amex logo

    • +1

Hey Purple, that won't surprise me.
Mwave wouldn't let me split payment back in September due to strict instructions from Amex themselves.

  • +1

Tried to buy vpay in Harvey Norman Preston & was refused to pay by amex, the cashier said this is restricted by amex and they are not allowed to sell any gift card or prepaid visa card to amex cardholder. this is very ridiculous in the way doing business. they can just reject all amex transactions including buying goods from their stores.

    • +1

Did you ask if ok to use MasterCard?

      • Yes, I asked and they said Visa and Mastercard was OK, just not Amex.

        • Wow that's very racist lol

  • +3

So I thought I'd share my experience here as we've seen so many mixed experiences with the GC purchases for Westfield.

    Venue: Westfield Southland (VIC)
    Amount: $400
    Total Paid: $404.95
    Type: Westfield Gift Card XS
Payment Card: 2x ANZ issued AMEX and 2x AMEX (the basic free one)
    Payment Split: $104.95, $100, $100, $100
    Payment Type: Apple Pay x4
AMEX Confirmation Emails: x4 and immediately in the inbox after Apple Pay Payment

So it is worthy to note that I tried the Concierge upstairs near the DJ and the banks; the young lady there wasn't rude but did ask whether it was for AMEX offer, and said that the offer no longer available. I said I registered for the offer already and so the offer still valid, and stated the above gift card amount I wanted to purchase using split payment as per above. She said that their manager disallowed them to do this and the max amount of gift cards I can buy in 1 day is $100 which I thought was pretty crappy as I know they are discriminating against the AMEX offer for some reason.

So I walked away and wondered around and by chance spotted another Concierge desk downstairs (quite far from the one above) near Coles. Thought I'd try my luck there and the bloke there was very friendly and did not have any problems putting the split payments through. No ID check necessary, no line and was done in less than 2 minutes.

Good luck to those still yet to give it a go, I hope you don't all swamp the Concierge guy downstairs at Southland mall, but what we've proven here is that there's absolutely no consistency whatsoever and it is strictly at the discrepancy of the person serving you as to whether you will manage to buy the GC's successfully or not with split payment. If the first Concierge counter fails, go back later or try another one in the same mall, you never know.

    • I went there today a bit late, nearly 5pm and nobody was at both of the Concierge desk, may try the downstairs one tmr. For those who want to get VPAY at HN, you may try Moorabbin, the nice young lady just warn me that it will not work but I just told her to sell me the VPAY anyway and I have bought 2 today.

BTW, how do you guys know which voucher is available from the HN EPay system? How did you guys know about this VPAY?

    • Can you explain what the benefit of Apple pay is? Also isn't the offer a 25 buck rebate for 100 spend? I don't get the whole splitting payments thing? Can't my wife and i just go in with our cards and each buy a $100 westfield voucher from concierge desk?

      • $2.95 (red) or $4.95 (XS) issue fee per Westfield gift card

  • +2

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience and feedback, it always made me feel so much better after reading the comments on Ozbargain.

  • +1

I got home from Southland a couple of hours ago and was about to post my comment when I saw that nizsmo beat me to it. I also went to the downstairs concierge in Southland near Coles. There was a nice young man named Matt and two other young people. The person I had two weeks ago was a woman about 60 and she was nasty! Matt let me split the payment but when I tried to use my supplementary card, the pin didn't work. All those shop small transactions were only $20 so I never realised that I set up the wrong pin on the card. OOOPS! Problem solver that he is, Matt split the payment into two $50 payments for that card which meant that I could do it without a pin. He asked me if the cards were in my name and I said yes but he didn't check. The name does not show up on the card in Android Pay anyway. This time I got the emails for the Westfield gift cards but not for the android pay.
Then I went to Myer for those gift cards. Not sure what I am going to do with all these cards but will sort something out.

  • +1

I went to Doncaster Westfield. The guy said with AMEX they are only meant to do one card per day. He also mentioned if it was for the AMEX offer he didn't think it allowed 2 cards and that I might not get the offer on the 2nd one. The system might not allow it either. I was thinking what rubbish so I asked if they could give it a try which they were fine about. $200 gc on 2 cards. No ID check. I think as I went close to closing they probably couldn't be bothered arguing.
Got home and received email for both cards.
Good luck for those still needing to redeem.

    • ask them if it works with Mastercard or visa. bet they will no know wtf it is

    • Just came back from Westfield Doncaster. Went to main concierge right in front of HSBC. Allowed to purchase 5 gift cards but was refused split payments. Had to pay the 4.95 transaction 5 times. Oh well, still a $100 saving.

Paid 4 with Apple Pay and 1 with physical card. E-mails all came through.

Went to Rebel Sports and purchased another 5x gift cards with split payments on physical cards but no e-mails.

      • I did not receive any confirmation email for the Rebel purchase on 3 occasions. However, I received the credits 2-3 days later.

        • Thanks! That usually happens to me too with other purchases. Worst case is Amex will still manually credit the refund if conditions are met :)

  • is first choice gift card same as coles myer?

    • +2

      No

  • After reading all the comments people had with Westfield, just wanted to pipe up that I had no issues buying my Gift Card with my DJs AMEX at Westfield Sydney Central Plaza (Myer side). Didn't get confirmation e-mail (I didn't get one for Dymocks either but did for Myer and kikki.k) but got the $25 credit.

All these offers are making me broke! Still want to take advantage of The Body Shop and Supercheap Auto …

  • What happens if you buy multiple things, receive a statement credit from Amex, and then decide to return part of your purchase (not all of it). I've read the terms and conditions and it basically says that they have the right to rescind/reverse their offer, but can someone who's done it before tell me if they actually do it? How does it work if you don't return everything?

    • +1

I've had that happen to me maybe 7-8 times. Sometimes the credit is reversed, sometimes it is not. Doesn't appear to be any pattern or reason why some stick and some don't. I'd put it down to luck of the draw.

      • Which retailers and did you return the items to the same store? I have not encountered credit reversal yet because all my purchases and returns are never at the same store.

        • did you do that returns on purpose to exploit this offer?

        • @dragonindespair: I am not doing returns on purpose, but if I do return items I am conscious of the statement credits.

        • Various stores, the big brands: Target, Woolworths, Harvey Norman etc. Can't remember specifically which ones did/didn't reverse the credit. I know there were two instances that I ordered from Woolworths Online and got the Amex credit only for Woolworths to have out-of-stock items which put me under the spend threshold - one time the credit was reversed and the other time it wasn't. Both identical circumstances, both had the same credit card transaction description (I think 'WOOLWORTHS ONLINE') and the refund happened within a week of the original purchase. This was confusing so I gave up trying to work out if there was a pattern.

None of my refunds were done to exploit any offer. Just unlucky I guess.

Got all my $25 credit westfield on amex amex cards now.
    Previously didn't get emails.

I didn't contact them system auto fixed itself

    Amex is great!

    • Yes I can see all my credits now

Looks like it's double credit for those who got it credited manually.

      • Did you get double credit?

    • Yep, WESTFIELD CHATSWOOD -$25.00 has cleared on my Amex issued cards.
Not sure if they're the manual credits, or the automatic credits, because I did email Amex late last week about it.

      • +1

        That's automatic one.
        Manual would be 'credit adjustment'

    • Got mine too - exactly 5 business days post purchase

  • Looks like both the automatic and manual credits are coming through!

    • Received all my credits for Amex issued card. Bank issued card the credit has not come through yet.

  • +2

So $50 off for people!! Nice work!! This is how you survive in Australia!!!!

Dont complain about high prices of property!

  • +1

Amex will take back extra $25 credit…

  • No issues splitting payment for XS card at Westfield Garden City concierge (near level 2 food court) - thanks Deb :)

  • registered my card for westfield offer.
used it on Dec 1. no email came through. waited for a week and sent amex support an email.
just received an email from them stating credit is made on Dec 9 and will appear on my card statement in 3-5 days.
as others pointed out, it seems like some error there and they are working on it manually.

    Thank you for your enquiry.

Sorry to hear that you didn’t receive a confirmation email.

We can confirm that the Card ending in xxxxx has been enrolled for the Westfield offer.

Although you didn’t receive the confirmation email, please be assured if the transaction is valid you will receive a credit.

Please note as per T&Cs, the statement credit is normally applied within 5 business days but it may take up to 90 days from the end of the offer.

According to our system record, the statement credit has been applied to your account on 9 Dec2016.

Please allow 3-5 business days for the credit to be appeared on your statement.

    • For bank issued card, I have received the same email from Amex.

  • +1

Westfield $25 rebate has come through on all genuine Amex cards (inc Android $10 double-dip). I can confirm bank issued cards have now credited as well. No manual intervention was required on by part (expect the long wait for Amex to sort their sh!t out). Now time to go buy some QF gift vouchers to take advantage of those offers ($700 for $150 back + will double-dip on the 15% (max $50) online end of yr promo = $700 QF Flight Gift Voucher for $200 back)

    • Where is double dip ? Please share the link

      • Westfield gift card + android pay ($25 + $10 = $30 back) for the single transaction (you could android pay for something else and still trigger. I'm a fan of 'stacking' wherever possible to reduce the number of transactions and reduce risk)
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279026

Qantas offers stack (I can confirm). Buy $700 of voucher = $150 + $50 back. Rinse and repeat. And voucher doesn't need to be consumed all at once as you are issued with a 'residual' voucher for what is left (over $2):
        $700 spend … get $150 back https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279705
15% back up to $50 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/272508 (you can also use this offer to trigger Dans as well i.e it triggers QF & Dans)
For QF use an Amex cards that pays multiple points per dollar vs a low return card such as Gold charge.
And QF have a bonus 5 x QF points / dollar offer on vouchers right now as well. http://www.qantas.com/christmas/
So it becomes a bonanza of QF points as you get them on the flights themselves when you fly as well.
I then wait for more QF offers to use the vouchers e.g bonus points / double status credits etc as the vouchers don't impact any offers QF run through the year. Do read the conditions of use though.

For the QF spend … I worked out what I would need to buy as a minimum across the next 12 months. Multiple vouchers then purchased. You have approx 12 months to use the flight vouchers and you can book flights approx 12 months in advance. So technically you can get close to 2 yrs of use from the voucher if you booked a flight on the last day before voucher expires.

        • How do you buy a $700 voucher? Denominations are only in increments of $50 up to $500, then next options are $1000 and $2000?

          I'm looking at:
          http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/gift-vouchers/global/e…

          Thanks

        • @kelea: Nevermind, been reading elsewhere and guessing you've bought two vouchers (e.g. $500/$200)…

        • +1

@kelea: 2 ways. either multiple vouchers e.g 2 x $350 for 1 pax or 1 x $350 but change to 2 pax. The Amex system just adds up the final amount across spent over the period. I hope you found it useful as it is easy money back provided you needed to fly anyway

  • Can i use the Coles Myer GC to buy another GC at Coles?

    • Depends on customer service person

      • At a self checkout and i only whip it out before they know whats going on?

      • actually it may depends on their checkout system, Coles has upgraded their system and it block payment for gift card using gift card. So if the system at your Coles been upgraded it may not work.

        • I went to world sq one, the system allows it but the staff was adadment that "you can not do it". Most likely to prevent fraud because management can not see the source of the gift cards, so could be stolen.

        • @Turd: Even if the staff allow it, the system may not allow it.

        • @samehada: aka if it doesnt work try another coles

        • @Turd: I am not sure if it is on the store scale or system scale because it has not been working for me in many Coles stores and someone on here still comment that it is working yet I am not sure how long ago they tried it.

  • Hi all, I have checked bank issued card, the credit had came through.

  • +2

Bank issued (NAB & ANZ) and Amex Credits for the Westfield deal all came through today. Transactions done about a week apart and at two different Westfields.

If you registered, then it would seem there is no issue in the credits being applied, just takes a bit more time that we're used to.

$900 of credits in total across MYER/First Choice/Westfield in the last month. Should pay for the annual fees for 4 more credit card sign ups netting 390,000 QFF points.. first class for 2 on EK to New York here we come for cost of taxes.. now to work on the return leg!

    • Same here, bank issued credits for Westfield purchases on 03 Dec finally arrived today.

  • Carendale…QLD…. No issue split payment.
Xs card total over 2 cards $204.95
Even got a XMAS wrapped gold cardboard box with card in it! Wtf????
    Now for cash back email….

    • Remember the early XS & AMEX days?? lol hehe

      • Yep was looking at getting 20k no fee back then… Did not pull the trigger…

      • Wow, interesting… I missed that, any link to those discussion back then?

        • Aust FF forum

        • +2

I missed the boat too but after researching the AFF forum it seems you used to be able to

          1. Buy XS cards without the $4.95 service fee if you bought them via the corporate program. Minimum spend was $20000 worth of cards.
          2. Use XS cards to pay bills at Auspost using post bill pay.

So, buy $20k XS cards on Amex with no service fee. Go to Auspost and pay back to $20k to your Amex card. Rinse and repeat for endless reward points. Needless to say this loophole was shut down quickly.

        • @meumax: But payment for AMEX at AusPost had a fee of $2.95. And yes I did this for maybe only 2 months or such. :( But yeah

  • I have been wondering how OP generated the manual link?

  • Ordered from Woolies. An item was out of stock and no replacement could be found so they're refunding. Called Amex and they confirmed as per Ts & Cs, this will mean I don't get the credit.

On the phone to woolies right now to cancel the order.

This is 1 of 4 orders. Hopefully the other ones will go through.

UPDATE: Managed to cancel the order. Got $10 coupon for the inconvenience.

    • ask them to give you the refund as a 'coupon' (can be used as credit for next time). They can easily do that.

      • So if I do that then I would have still spent the $100 in Amex transactions and still get the statement credit?

    • -1

I always got my amex cashbacks for woolies online for orders that i had items refunded because of no stock.
One time i paid only $70

      • The AMEX customer service person told me a refund that puts the amount below $100 would mean I wouldn't qualify for the credit according to the Ts & Cs.

Would be happy to get the credit though. :)

        • From what ive read on other ppl's experiences on ozbargain and also my own, u wont get the credit only if the whole amount is refunded.

        • +1

          @ChaseTheSun:

Looking at my transactions, you seem to be right.

  • Thanks for this!

  • I did the Woolworths online shop, but within 5 minutes, cancelled, the order. Not trying to scam the system, but I forgot to add the Woolies $10 discount code. Then I thought…. "bugger, there is no guarantee that Amex will NOW work", and so when I re-ordered I just paid with egift. As it should Amex account shows a debit, and then a credit for that $ amount. But now it also shows a $20 Statement credit for Woolworths shopping.

  • Could I please ask a question for those who did purchase the normal Westfield giftcards (not the XS cards) - outside Westfield, which shop can you use the card at? Is it only the Woolworths group (as I notice some ppl stated that they were able to use at Caltex Woolworths, Woolworths supermarket etc)? Thanks!

    • Aldi

    • +1

      Bunnings
      Coles & Woolworths (outside Westfield)
      Coles Express
      7-Eleven
      2 x small restaurants
      Dentist

Haven't yet had it rejected. I think the red & XS cards are both normal EFTPOS cards. Those who paid the extra $2 for the XS card may have been ripped off by Westfield (no surprises there).

      • Those who paid the extra $2 for the XS card may have been ripped off by Westfield (no surprises there).

Great! I'm one of the suckers who paid the extra $2 to be able to use them outside of Westfield.

      • If this can be verified somehow, there'd be a serious case to bring to the ACCC for false and deceptive advertising…

        • +5

          Have they been deceptive?

"Red cards work inside Westfield"… correct

          "XS cards work anywhere"… correct

Do they advertise that Red cards don't work outside a Westfield?

        • @PBG:

It doesn't have to be explicit. It can be deception by omission. Witholding the truth is not telling a lie, but it doesn't mean it's not a deception anyway…

But sure, Westfield have got wriggle room.

        • +2

worst case scenarios, they jack up the service fee of the red card to $4.95… or they go back the old system where the red card definitely did not work outside of westfield. no need to spoil a good thing.

        • +1

@lamprey: Not only would they jack up the fee, you may never see them sold at a discount again like they have in the past.

      • +1

Just successfully used my red Westfield card at the small cafe attached to the Byron Bay lighthouse - as far (east) as you can get from any Westfield as possible

  • hi not keen to open new thread, i just received my new amex issued essential card. previously i have one bank issued card already and have amex connect account setup.

so in the amex connect website, should i just add my new essential under one amex connect account?
    will this works well? considering:
    1. so in the future i can add 1 offer to both cards so i can get two cash backs (if using 2 cards of course)?
    2. sometimes we have amex issue specific offers only, how this will work as i will login to one account, will both (all) offers shows up?

    thanks.
or better create another amex connect account? i prefer combine actually.

    • +2

I have a bank-issued Amex and have also just received my new Amex-issued Essential card, which I activated last night. It would not allow me to add the card using my Amex Connect login (I'd tried it, just out of curiosity to see whether it would work, which it didn't!), you have to set up a separate account through the main Amex website for any Amex-issued cards. I think Amex Connect can only be used to register bank-issued cards.

So judging by that, you will have to log into each account and add the offers to each card separately. There are plenty of people on Ozbargain who have a lot of experience with Amex cards, accounts etc, so they can probably advise you better than I can, I'm just going off my own experience with receiving the new card.

      • same here, activated last night wow what a coincidence!

yeah i didnt try to add actually :) so it wont work - good to know.
i think you might be correct here. once you setup/register for amex online access (the real amex not amex connect) then under your card photo scroll down and you will see "offers and places" there is the amex connect version for amex issued card!

so annoying to have to login to 2 places to add an offer.

        • Yes, my card arrived yesterday - I was surprised it came so quickly as I only applied last Friday, and living in WA (Wait Awhile) and given the time of year with mail delays etc, I thought it would take longer to get here!

        • @SimbaGirl: same again, applied on the weekend, arrived yesterday but im in NSW. no need to upload payslip or anything (asking credit limited $3000). maybe because 5 years ago i had gold card (but then have cancelled)

        • @dragonindespair: I didn't have to upload any information either, and the application was approved almost immediately. I've never had an Amex-issued card and didn't ask for any particular limit, just ticked the "you give me what you think I should have" box LOL as I was mainly getting the card to take advantage of the Amex offers.

    • I'm in the same boat as you, and had to have two accounts. One for bank issued Amex, the other Amex. Also need to setup accounts for subsequent supplementary cards.

    • As SimbaGirl said, seems like bank-issued, and Amex issued-cards do not mix. A separate Amex account is needed for Amex-issued card. However, more than one Amex-issued cards can share an Amex login. Both my Essential and Qantas Discovery cards share the same login, so I can login once to save offers for each card individually.

      • what if my wife issues me a complimentary card. can i add it into my existing amex account login?
(im talking about amex issued cards, vice versa)

        • I have a feeling no, since the account belongs to someone else. But I am not certain. If you do get around to trying, would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

    • +1

Each Amex card needs its own Connect account.
Same goes for supplementary Amex cards.

  • +1

I got my westfield gift card split across multiple amexes at parra Westfield yesterday. They were happy to do it - I went to the counter near target on level 4.

    • so one gift card per amex card yea?

      • No I bought 1 Westfield gift card with payment split across multiple Amex cards.

  • +3

Re First Choice Liquor Coles/Myer Gift Cards: NSW Forestville are now sold out.
At 5pm 18th, Brookvale (63 Winbourne Road) have HEAPS! - many different designs too. Easy to find their gift card board full of them at cashier. My guess 50 - 100 qty.

    • Does Brookvale allow buying multiple cards, or paying with multiple AMEX?

Forestville was restricting 1 gc/amex per person.

      • At Forestville I bought 2 GC's with 2 diff. Amex's. At the one time, but in 2 transactions. I don't know about Brookvale, as I only needed 1 GC by then.

        • Thanks mate, I will call up and confirm. :)

  • u can get the westfield card unlimited times yea?

    • Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $100 or more on that Card, in one or more transactions, on Westfield Gift Cards in-store at Westfield or online at westfieldgiftcards.com.au by 24/12/2016 to receive one $25 credit. Limited to the first 30,000 Cards to save the offer.

    • Yes but the statement credit only once.

      • thanks
i find many of the places i have already used my offer is still sitting as ävailable on my portal
        same with yours?

        • -1

Go for it. Then report back and let us know if you get multiple credits

  • If I buy the $100 westfield voucher (it's on my amex ready to go), I can use it at any woolworths supermarket outside of a westfield?
    thanks

    • If you get the XS card, you can use it at any place that has an eftpos machine.

    • +2

Westfield Red and Westfield XS cards are identical underneath. Only difference is branding and extra $2 fee. I've used the Red cards at heaps of places outside Westfield (small local restaurants, our dentist, 7-eleven, Bunnings, Coles, Coles Express, Woolworths, Aldi and Harvey Norman). Never had a problem. In fact I haven't even tried using them once inside a Westfield's lol

The old Westfield gift cards were only usable inside Westfield, but they changed to EFTPOS cards now which work everywhere.

Save your money and just get Red card.

      • +1

Interesting. I think I'll take the plunge

      • +1

At least next time I'll know!

        • +2

There won't be a next time now that it's all over ozbargain.

        • @JIMB0: bugger! Anyway doesn't bother me. At the end of the day whoever took advantage of the offer is still in front and that's all that matters

      • +1

Westfield Red and Westfield XS cards are identical underneath.

        No, they are not.

  • Westfield service desk was horrible, refusing to split a $200 gift card over two credit cards, so I had to do $100+$100 and pay the activation fee twice. Paying extra money (activation fee) to be an unsecured creditor…

As soon as I mentioned using two credit cards, they asked if it was for Amex's deal and I stupidly said yes. Because of that they decided to scrutinize ID. Since the Android Pay cards do not have your name, they wanted to see the plastic card. So troublesome.

    • +1

I don't understand why people would make the work harder than it should be.

Many moons ago when I was working retail, it was often easier to split payment than it was to split gift cards.

      • +1

        Fraud

        • You've mentioned this a couple of times, but without explaining how preventing a split payment helps prevent fraud.

        • How so?

        • @roughana: when tracking back it is easier for the managers to isolate and fraud easier. Coz they don't want to do more work!

    • Can you tell me which westfield is this? My supplementary cards are not under my name. This is gonna be troublesome as I was hoping to use apple pay to avoid the ID check

      • +2

All depends on how u look and who's behind the counter. If you llook like a questionable student with 4 virtual cards you may be asked for proof. If you look authoritative then more than likely u won't.

  • Pitt St Westfield still refuses to let me split payment over 2 cards. Gave in and bought 2 GCs instead :(

    • +3

If Amex charges merchants a flat percentage, the acceptance cost for Westfield would be the same with split payment.
Westfield is just being greedy with wanting more activation fee. That's why I went for the $2 cheaper Red gift card.

      • +3

Yeah I got 2 red GCs too.

I think credit card processors usually charge a flat fee plus a percentage per transaction, e.g. PayPal charges 30¢ + 2.9%. So technically it does cost them marginally more for a split payment. But I think the extra $2.95 activation fee they made doesn't remotely begin to cover the bad impression they left with me and the lost future business as a result, so whoever made the decision to ban split payments must be extremely short-sighted.

        • +1

The opportunity cost to them from us now not visiting as often is much greater than 30c

        • +3

But I think the extra $2.95 activation fee they made doesn't remotely begin to cover the bad impression they left with me and the lost future business as a result, so whoever made the decision to ban split payments must be extremely short-sighted.

Agree. Within reason, give the customer what they want. It's not like the $25 is being subsidised by Westfield in the first place. Why make it more difficult? What I don't understand is, when you go thru the effort of promoting something, trying to get people into your store to buy something, to then impose some stupid rule that simply pisses people off. If Westfield were that pedantic about split payments, they shouldn't bother at all. At least you don't leave people with a bad impression.

        • +3

          @t25:

It's not like the $25 is being subsidised by Westfield in the first place.

I would think it is (or at least in part/majority). Amex doesnt do these promos for the generosity…

        • @SBOB:

I would think it is (or at least in part/majority). Amex doesnt do these promos for the generosity…

Even if part/majority of it was covered by Westfield, they still only really gained $2.95 by not allowing split payments, since there's no limit on how many GCs you can buy individually. It's not like they're saving $25.

        • @SBOB: Other than transaction fees, I am not aware of any other costs for any promotion participants.

        • +1

          @t25:

so Amex just chooses retailers it likes and pretty much throws money their way…. sounds realistic

        • @SBOB: No, but I'm sure Westfield as a group collectively can contribute significant to Amex coffers in terms of transaction revenue.

Based on your scanario, shop small businesses had to contribute a portion of the rebates. Sure they contributed in having an increased usage of Amex and thus, more transaction fees to fill their coffers.

        • +2

          @t25:

I don't count the shop small promo in the same category as these.. Shop small (I believe) is Amex trying to make sure small retailers keep accepting Amex..

These are shop specific rebates, and it seems unlikely to me that Amex is just gifting companies like Harvey Norman, nespresso, Bob Jane, woolworths etc large sums of money..

        • +1

@SBOB: I agree. The targeted big shops must be contributing something to all these credits.
Meanwhile Shop Small is different story, completely funded by Amex.

  • Westfield Airport West also does not allow split payment across different credit cards for the one gift card purchase, so I had to buy multiple gift cards and pay the service fee each time.

  • My Nespresso offer just suddenly disappeared from my saved offers . anyone else ?

    • No, my unredeemed ones are still there

    • I had my Westfield offer disappear from my DJ Amex on the main and supp cards. A gift card purchase was made on the main card but no credit appeared for two weeks. Then one day when I logged in, the offer disappeared. Called Amex to find out why. Raised a case and a credit appeared two days later. Not going to chase up the supp card since no purchase has been made.

I can confirm user PGB's previous comment that "Westfield Red and Westfield XS cards are identical underneath. Only difference is branding and extra $2 fee."

Westfield Red worked fine for me as a swipe+PIN EFTPOS card at a non-Westfield store. Don't bother telling the cashier it is a Westfield gift card because they'd just get confused.

    • +1

I was unable to use the Red card at Officeworks. If it worked for you so far, great, but they are not identical.

      • -1

Can you walk us through what you did exactly? Where the breakdown was?

        • I swiped the card in the terminal and the card was immediately declined/refused as not acceptable.

        • @roughana: Thanks for the response. Seems strange. In the past few weeks I've used the Red cards in lots of places and never had a problem. Including Bunnings, Coles & Coles Express which is under the same Wesfarmers umbrella.

iamprey below suggests OW have blocked Westfield altogether as last year they couldn't even use the XS card in OW - seems even stranger.

        • +2

@PBG: Thanks for the tips. I used the Red card today at 4 different locations: Big Watermelon at Bushy Park, caltex woolworths petrol, Japanese restaurant and a butcher shop. No problem at all. Shouldn't have bought the XS card which costed $2 more :-(

        • @PBG: i was able to use the grey eftpos card at ow last year but not this year.

        • +1

@gm3stevens: Love how we are getting negged for presenting facts. Boy there are some greedy OzBargainers.

FYI I used the Westfield Red card again tonight in Bunnings. No problems!

These neggers have to run out of negs soon :)

        • +1

@lamprey: Well that is really odd. I cannot explain that. At least both the Red and XS cards are blocked at OW - so our suspicions of them having identical functionality still hold water.

You helped keep my $4 away from Westfield's hands

        • +1

          @Fobsessive: Welcome :)

        • Why are folks using the westfield cards at places that don't surcharge for AMEX, and/or at places where AMEX bonus points are earned?

        • +4

@Some Guy: If you use the Westfield cards, it's like you get 20% off which is better than earning points.

        • @gm3stevens:
You get 20% off no matter where you spend it so you're forgoing points using them at supermarkets or servos. I used mine paying online bills and Aldi.

        • +3

          @Some Guy:

had no idea you could use it online. How does it work?

      • +3

the grey eftpos card doesn't work at ow as well. it did last year. officeworks has chosen to block westfield's account for some reason.

  • +4

If you are buying online, looks like you can avoid paying service fees by using this link:
    https://www.westfield.com.au/products.redirection?uuid=f3b4c…

    • +1

But don't you have to pay $5.95 delivery fee? I could not find an option for click and collect equivalent.

      • +1

Yes, the delivery fee is still there, so it is $5.95 (delivery fee) online vs $2.95 (service fee) in store.

    • Noice!
Where'd you get the link from? Can we get one for the XS card? (Even though it's becoming apparent that the RED card can be used in the same way)

    • +1

Thank you. You saved me a last minute trip to the mall.

    • +1

Thanks. Ended up being too lazy go on a last minute trip to the mall so I ordered 4 online using your link, using my main card and supplementaries. Shame we could not adjust the card value to $95 and get it just over $100 to activate cash back without service fee being included. Still I appreciate the link nevertheless.

Jus did a 4 way split at Chatswood. The guy was really nice and more than happy to do it. He even asked if it's the Amex thing and was iinterested about how it eexactly works which I explained. No attitude. As a gen x I much prefer to deal with the gen ys and younger. They're not as grumpy or by the book as the older crowd. PPreviously was rrejected and almost accused of criminal conduct by a couple of old cows.

  • Woolworths Online(network.americanexpress.com) can we get wooly gift card?

  • +1

No more Coles Myer gift cards at Naremburn. Forestville First Choice still has ~10

  • Does anyone know if Liquor Market purchases (Coles' new competitor for Dan Murphy's) appear as First Choice Liquor on Amex statement?

    • +1

Yep. It does, I received my confirmation email.

  • So saturday is still good to spend and get the credits?

    • Yes. Today is the last day!

went out to buy gift cards today, get the cashback from westfield gift card (westfield plenty valley), rebel, myer (northland) and harvey norman(thomastown) instantly. However cant find any gift cards in the two 1st choice liquor shop (coburg and preston), and staff BSed the system not allowing selling gift card, blah blah. Oh well, nothing is perfectly in this world, Merry Christmas to all. BTW, remember if you cant go out and shop today, you can still buy myer and westfield gift card only. Cost a bit more, but save you lots of time to find a parking spot.

    • There's a First Choice Liquor store in Westfield Plenty Valley, I got a gift card there today.

  • -1

Went to Westfield Doncaster today (24 Dec 2016) and put $400 worth (split across four Amex) on a Westfield XS gift card. Young guy there did not make a fuss but older woman kept on muttering that he shouldn't do it but I flashed my $200 XS gift card to imply that that they had already did it for me already (I did it in Geelong Westfield) and she shut up.

    • +1

Should have just bought the sstandard one. It seems to work everywhere. I even used it in a cab. Im sure there's no cab shops inside Westfields lol.

      • -2

Whilst I'm sure that it would/should work, do you really want to risk hundreds for a saving of $3?

        • +2

          Risking? Lol/facepalm

        • +1

@gimme: so what would you do in the event that it didn't work?

Slowly spend the money at Westfield shopping centres. Maybe we have different perceptions of "risk". But I sure as hell do not want to be forced to spend my money at selected retailers for the sake of $3

        • @t25: Westfield Red definitely works.

If it unexpectedly doesn't work, then go to a Westfield Colesworth and buy Colesworth gift cards at the self serve checkout.

        • @Fobsessive: > If it unexpectedly doesn't work, then go to a Westfield Colesworth and buy Colesworth gift cards at the self serve checkout.

And then there is debate if you Colesworth have updated the checkout to stop people buying gift cards with another gift card. All this mucking around for $3? Surely your hourly rate at work justifies paying the extra to avoid the hassles.

        • +2

          @t25:

I already told you it works. It's no secret it at least works at the supermarkets anyway regardless of whether they're inside a Westfield or not. I don't see the risk. We're not talking thousands. It's $100 per card so not that hard to spend it. Yes we do have different perceptions of risk. Funnily enough I do risk assessments as part of my job on a regular basis. Your money your call. Out of interest, how much have you 'invested' in this?

        • @gimme: And just as you said it works, there is another post that say it doesn't.

And it won't be just $100 per card, especially when we are all using main + supplementary cards to load up several hundreds. This time it was just $200, but the next time (if any!) will be easily $1000 (10 cards in the family, assuming my pets don't end up with supp cards too!)

        • @t25:
          It does work t25.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/282828
If in the off chance it doesn't, follow gimme advice. I bought a Bunnings gift card at Coles using the Westfield Eftpos card with no problems.

        • +1

          @t25:

You contradicted yourself in the first sentence of 2nd paragraph . + All this risk talk for 200? Future hhypothetical situations are irrelevant. Your risk mgmt strategy is very unozbargain lol.

        • @gimme:

          or
          - buy the XS card knowing it is the one Westfield say works everywhere for ~23.6% discount
          - buy the red card, assuming it works everywhere but may have limitations for a ~24.3% discount

So your 'risk management' strategy should be based on a 0.7% differential, and whether an additional 0.7% discount is worth the chance of it not working at the store you intend to visit (depending on where its located etc etc)

        • @gimme: > Future hhypothetical situations are irrelevant. Your risk mgmt strategy is very unozbargain lol.

So you are penny wise and pound foolish? Do let me know which company you do risk management for, I will make sure to avoid it!

Future hypothetical situations ARE relevant. If I am loading my money into someone else's pockets in exchange for a piece of plastic, I want to be sure that it works where I shop, not where I hope will work. Being an ozbargainer is more than just looking at price, it is also making sure you are ahead in the long run.

At the end of the day, the difference in discount is not bank breaking, even when multiplied many times. But the risk that you take for saving $3 may come back to bite.

        • @t25:

so you think a potential future amount is relevant to your current $200 decision with zero impact on which card you choose in the future. Can't really argue with that logic.

Your mindset is in the right place but your execution is off. Simply put are you saying you can't spend $200 at coles or woolies in the next 12 months? hence your perceived risk?
If yes you may be the only person in Australia.

PS: No need to avoid the company I work for. Fairly certain it's way above your league.

        • +1

          @gimme:

PS: No need to avoid the company I work for. Fairly certain it's way above your league.

Grill'd and you're assuming he's more of a McDonalds kind of guy?

        • @SBOB:

          Yup perfect metapho .

        • +2

@gimme: no. I think it is wise not to have too much funds stuck in other companies books for too long.

Companies can/do go bankrupt, companies can also get sold and closed down shortly after. Any reason that gift cards can be declared worthless. Hence my choice to use them as fast as possible and minimise any chance of gift cards being declared worthless.

For someone who supposedly does risk management I'm surprised you aren't thinking deeper. Now if Australia has stronger laws regarding gift card and how the customer's money is safeguarded, yes, your arguement may hold true. But right now, gift cards are piece of plastic that isn't worth the money you paid for. And my "strategy" of loading them up and using it quick may be a safer bet.

And in case you are wondering why I can't use $200 within 12 months, it's because I have loaded myself with another $1050 in Coles Myer gift cards. That said, majority will be used for my company fleet fuel purchases

      • I went with the $4.95 XS one which I knew definitely worked.

  • +3

Just managed to get 5 x$150 coles Myers gift cards from first choice north rocks. They actually hid the cards when I went there few days ago but today the cards were on display and checkout chick did the transactions after checking with her supervisor.

  • Ordered gift cards online on last day of promo. Got the credit emails but westfield still hasn't sent the dispatch emails and Amex still has the payments as pending. Strange.

    • hOLIDAY PERIOD

      lazy westfield management

      • Got a dispatch email for one of them today. Maybe they read my post on ozbargain lol

  • Did anyone have trouble redeeming the Myers offer? I purchased $100 online and $50 in store but AMEX is telling me the offer is an in store only offer. Im still trying to dispute it as both the email and offer on the Amex connect site say you can purchase online and in store over multiple transactions.

    • Save the offer to your Card and spend $150 or more, in one or more transactions, in-store or online at Myer by 24/12/2016 to receive one $35 credit. Limited to the first 35,000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply.

      • Agree, that's what I keep telling them and they still tell me it's an in store only offer, even when I highlight the bit you've bold.
Never had a problem with them before when a credit hasn't been applied. Sigh :( will keep emailing them ……..

        • -2

Just give them a call - it's easier and faster

        • @PBG: thanks will give that a go.

    • +1

Ordered the $79 iron online and bought a $71 gift card in store. Got the email instantly. Did you pay through Paypal or ebay? Or did you buy a gift card online?

      • Paid all by card. Yes did buy gift card online but there's nothing to say gift cards were excluded. They acknowledged I bought online, their issue was that it was an in store offer only.
I will call them next week when businesses are back to work as PBG suggested.
        Thanks

        • The other thing I just thought is whether Myer egift cards bought online are through the same merchant or are they outsourced to another domain (and therefore not auto-qualifying for the Amex offer because amex doesn't see "Myer.com.au")

        • +2

@PBG: inclined to agree with you. If online purchase was for a gift card then the purchase won't qualify for statement credit.

        • +2

@bluedufflecoat: That's correct - Myer gc bought online are through a different domain and do not qualify.
