Hey guys I have a deal for an RX 480. With AMD drivers getting better and better this card will definitely be a great performer especially at this price point.

There is also a $15 rebate but I am unsure how that works, if it does work then total comes down to $211.30 USD (~ $283.22 AUD).

Another GPU I have seen on special and it appears to the best performing card at $250 AUD especially with the rollout of the new AMD RELIVE drivers.

I fear that by the time AMD drivers are up to Nvidia standards, I will need to upgrade from a 480.

The new RELIVE drivers are looking pretty neat with performance gains across games.

      • Any idea if the 4K black screen issues are finally fixed with the new driver?

        • No clue to be honest

Agreed AMD install manager is a joke. No way to get around it.

      • I think we have some AMD groupies here. The downvotes are real ;)

Here's the PDF containing the terms and conditions for the rebate form

The rebate is paid back not by $ to your account but via a prepaid Mastercard worth $15.

In short, there's so much hassle you might as well not go through with it.

    • Yeah nah thanks for the info defs not worth the rebate tbh.

All 480 cards get a code for Civilisation 6, which is a solid bonus.

    • really? How does that work? I got a 480 recently from amazon and didn't see anything about a civ6 code

        https://www.amdrewards.com/amdrewards/

Buried somewhere in their shocking website.

      • I did too. I just emailed Amazon and they gave me a code. Then there's a bunch of mucking around on AMD's super crappy website. Then I got the Steam code.

        • Hi Jazoom,
I just emailed Amazon and they were not helpful and did not know what was going on.
They said I should ask AMD, and they said I should ask Amazon.
Can you tell me what you did specifically to get them to help?

        • @papalaz: Sounds like you got a dud support person at Amazon. It is true that the retailer is supposed to provide you with the code. Here is the email I got back after asking for it:

          Hello Jazoom,

Greetings from Amazon Promotions Specialist Team.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't received the promotional code for free game download of "Civilization VI". I'll be glad to work on this for you.

I see that your recent Order ID: <ORDER_ID_WAS_HERE> entitles you to a promotional code.

Note: I don't know why it mentions "Road Trip", but I can confirm I got Civ VI with the code they gave me.

        • @jazoom: Yeah I must've got a dud support person.
          Thanks mate :)
That amazon link of the T&Cs will come in handy.
I'll just send them another carefully worded message soon.

        • @papalaz: No probs.

        • @jazoom: Did you do anything special in order to get them to help you out? Maybe you worded you email in a special kind of way?…
I've contacted them many many times already, they are quite useless. Nobody knows what's going on, I get told different things every time.
I've had my issue escalated to the Promotions team twice and they have not bothered replying, days later… maybe they're busy enjoying their christmas.

        • @papalaz: I just sent them an email asking for it. There was nothing more to it. I was lucky to get an email back from someone who knew what I was on about. Maybe ask for Nadeem M?

Usually it's me that gets mucked around by disorganised companies. It feels strange being on the other side.

        • @jazoom: After being told a bunch of different things, I'm about to give up. The last thing I've been told is that the offer is for USA customers only.
I can't find this little titbit stipulated anywhere of course.
I'm sure they're freaking making it up because everyone I've spoken to doesn't know how to finding the solution for me.

        • @papalaz: That is so frustrating. Maybe there's a way to complain to AMD to tell them that Amazon is being ridiculous?

  • +3

These are now Faster then gtx 1060 6gb in dx11 and dx12.. So they are a better buy in that regard.. Drivers are better then nvidias also.

Man its crazy how over time amd cards start to pull ahead.. The driver team must work really slow and getting everything they can from the new cards

    • damn really? i just got a 1060…
Anyway for those interested it's possible to get the 8gb for around $335 from HN. Requires amex though.

  • is this better than the shopping express 1060 from yesterday??

    • Yep. Latest driver from AMD improve the radeon 480 and 470. I'm still rocking a Radeon 290. This will be a sidegrade at best for me. Waiting for Vega

  • No warranty at all if you buy these?

    • I believe no, probably have to look into the company's own international warranties see what they say
