One Day sale at Lenovo today, and there are some good deals out there. Use coupon code SANTA at checkout. Great to see that SSD is now default across the board on the sale items, although ThinkPad E560 is still equipped with a HD TN screen at 1366x768 (but $679 though). My pick for a business laptop would be X1 Yoga i5. Although it's $400 more expensive than Yoga 460, but much lighter & better made.

    any deal for X1 Carbon?

    • X1 Carbon, $900 off with SANTA coupon code.

    • It's in the link but I didn't list out, as it's the highend model:

      ThinkPad X1 Carbon — $2449

      • Core i7-6600U
      • 14.0" WQHD IPS
      • 16GB RAM
      • 512GB SSD
      • 1.18kg

It's comparable to other highend models from other brand (XPS 13, EliteBook 840, etc) but also with 16GB RAM & 512GB SSD.

      • Paid $13XX for my T460s i5 FHD 8G 256G couple of months ago. This is a better deal IMO.

      • do u think the Dell Inspirion 15 2 in 1
        i7/8gb/256gb for $1044.05 is a good deal?

        15.6-inch Full HD touchscreen
        6th gen Intel Core i7-6500U
        8GB memory/256GB SSD
        Intel HD 520 Graphics
Up to 7 hours of battery life

  • X1 Yoga send to be $100 cheaper than previous lowest.

      • tend
  • Temped to buy the E560 for christmas for a family member (only internet browsing etc)

Would the low resolution be an issue/annoying?

    • +1

Not an issue for web browsing - in fact some people prefer the native resolution for browsing as everything appears a little larger without having to adjust any settings

    • +1

I owned an E520 a few years back which had the same resolution. It was a great value laptop but the screen was the weakest part. If it's the only thing you use it'll be ok, but if you're regularly comparing it to something with a high resolution good screen it will make you sad (but it will still be totally usable). Overall it was a amazing purchase for the budget though.

  • Are these eligible for 7% back on CashRewards?
    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/lenovo

    • Likely. It would be prudent to wait for Cashrewards to update their site to include the coupon code though.

      • Are the cashbacks only valid when using the coupon or for any purchase from their website?

        • On Cashrewards Lenovo page:

Purchases made with coupon codes not advertised on Cashrewards may result in cashback not being paid.

However it's usually the advertisers not willing to pay commission for exclusive coupons. In this case where the coupon code is publicly advertised on Lenovo's site, they will likely honour the cashback. But don't quote me on that, and as I've said, it would be more prudent to wait.

        • Oh I was referring to not using any coupons. The laptop I want to get isn't in this list of valid products, but I'd still like 7% cashback

        • +4

@twig: Then it's fine with Cashrewards… HOWEVER are you sure you want to reveal that you are going to pay full price?!!

        • +1

@twig: If you sign up for the Lenovo newsletter you should get a 10% off coupon - certainly better than nothing if there's no other discount on offer. In my experience it stacked with Cashback as well, but it's obviously not guaranteed.

        • @scotty: Coupon is now on Cashrewards.

        • @gibspmuh: Cheers gibspmuh ! <3 OzB

  • ThinkPad 13 looks good, anyone care to compare to equivalent ASUS model(s)? Kid needs one for school

    • Lenovo thinkpads are as good laptop as u can get out there, minus lots of bells and whistles

    • ThinkPad 13 is good for school. It's also the only Lenovo line up at the moment with USB 3.1 Type C connector. However it's not really a business grade laptop (which is reserved for the T & X series) and doesn't have features such as magnesium roll cage, spill resistant keyboard, etc.

    • Here are some thoughts on the ThinkPad 13 …

Thanks Scotty, convinced the boss to buy two X1 Yogas for work.

    • +2

So you can give a Plus as well to the deal :)

  • Great price for the X1 Yoga - wish I had an excuse to spend $1.6k on yet another laptop…

  • just bought Dell Inspirion 15
    i7/8gb/256gb for $1044.05 Delivered with Express Post(microsoftstore.com)
    15.6-inch Full HD touchscreen
    6th gen Intel Core i7-6500U
    8GB memory/256GB SSD
    Intel HD 520 Graphics
Up to 7 hours of battery life

    thinking of whether to refund…
    but the price is good
    what's ur suggestion?

    • battery may not give you 7 hrs at all for the spec - looks good though but weight probably 2.4kg, bit heavy to carry around

      • I just used it as a desktop

  • Looking at a laptop for browsing / work - basic use nothing exceptional - ThinkPad E460 is tempting - anyone had experience with these?

  • Wife said not to spend money on laptop :(

    • Maybe she's got your a Christmas present? Or wishful thinking?

  • +1

Can someone explain please the difference - apart from price, size and weight - between the ThinkPad E460 ($888), and the ThinkPad 13 ($999)? Why pay $111 more for slightly less real estate?

    • As you said, you pay the extra $111 for the size and weight.

The ThinkPad 13 is a great notebook for the price.

      • Thank you matt-ozb. Am I correct in assuming the Lenovo is at least equal to its Dell equivalent in terms of build quality, reliability, after-sales service/warranty support, etc?

        • +1

I guess you can search the forums to read everyone's opinion and experience.

I prefer the Lenovo / ThinkPad brand.

The ThinkPad 13 keyboard is awesome! 1080p on a 13" screen is perfect to me.

Or spend extra $600 for X1 with larger footprint but slightly less weight.

I bought Ideapad (13.3) from JB HiFi yesterday. It's the 7th gen i5 CPU. I don't understand why I couldn't find any 7th gen CPU from Lenovo website?

    JB HiFi ($1199)
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/lenovo/l…

    Lenovo website ($1699)
    http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-700-ser…

How can a 6th Gen CPU one more expensive than 7th Gen CPU one? Am I missing something here? The spec looks the same to me apart from the CPU.

    • +2

That's just how the website works. If it's not on special, it's usually a rip off

    • It should have been $1019.15 yesterday. I bought it for that on Friday and they told me the special was on until Sunday. I'd think about calling them up. It was this deal (it said that it expired on the 8th but that was just the coupon):

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/280898

      • dazweeja, Yes, I bought it for $1019.15. Didn't know anything about the coupon and the gift card though.

  • Which one is better? 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, anti-glare or 14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS, glare

    • +1

At 14" you won't really notice 1440P, 1080P is already plenty. 1440P will use up slightly more energy than 1080P
Antiglare = better if you work outdoors. Glare looks prettier though (and fingerprints show up when the screen is off, not so much when you actually are working on the laptop)
Both are good choices, both IPS!

    • +2

The WQHD will probably be better. e.g. higher colour gamut (more vibrant colours), darker blacks so you can see more details in dark scenes in a movie etc.

    • battery life worse for WQHD and RAM intense

    • I recall when deciding between the two that the FHD has pretty abysmal gamut coverage whereas the WQHD was good. I went the WQHD - happy with it.

  • I'm looking at the ThinkPad E560 for a present - am I going to find anything better around this price range before Christmas? I don't really want to be spending anymore than $700 and from what I've been able to find this looks like a decent deal. Unless I've overlooked another deal somewhere else?

  • How does lenovo go when it comes to TRS from those who have purchased before. Do they list an ABN on the invoice and anyone have any advice on depreciation of bringing a laptop back into australia? Would love to make the Yoga work for me!

    • Yes it has a tax invoice with GST amount and issued by Lenovo (Australia & New Zealand) Pty Ltd with an ABN.

  • I wonder how much I need to spend to get a new laptop so I can edit my go pro footage quicker…

  • +1

    Any good deal for desktop?

    • Feel free to call 1300 557 073 for special desktop pricing… the sales team can even provide bundle options for you on selected systems!

  • I would agree with Scotty's suggestion to go with X1 Yoga. Good price. If you are thinking to get Yoga, I would say spend additional $400 to get a decent lighter machine.

    • You cannot upgrade memory for x1

      • I dont think you need to. Its already 8 GB.
My gaming PC has 8 GB and I don't feel it replacing anytime soon.

    • yea I m using yoga 460 its FXXKin to heavy

  • Is the X1 pretty powerful? Can it handle gaming and intensive work?

  • how good is the t460? also in comparison to the e560?

  • Anyone know the delivery time for Lenovo's X1s? Flying out Monday, wonder if it'll come in time for a stock build.

    • Likely not… They also ship from overseas.

      • Thanks! Looks like I'll miss out and stick with the XPS 15

    • +1

      Normally delivery takes one-two weeks

  • Does anyone know if the yoga 460 can output to 2 4k monitors via its HDMI and DisplayPort?

  • How long does it take for Cash Rewards to be notified by Lenovo?

Most of the time it's instant or a couple of hours at most.

Purchased yesterday and still no notification about the purchase from Lenovo.

PS.. clicked on the Lenovo link from Cash rewards.

    • +1

Bought two ThinkPads over the last 3 days, one got tracked after a day and still waiting for email for another one. However Lenovo pays very slowly so you might only get cashback by March next year.

      • Thanks Scotty, got me a little concerned that the purchase wasn't tracked but I'll wait.

It doesn't bother me how long it takes, the main thing is that it gets paid.

I know Scorptec and a couple of hotel ones takes about 90 days the purchase/holiday stay.

      • Yay, it has come through.

Even better, the very generous 7% rebate is based on $1,050 rather than $888 (inc GST) that I actually paid.

Estimate payment date is 3 months after purchase.

  • Question for mods with association with lenovo, I ordered the Yoga 460 in the Cyber Monday Special (29 Nov), supposed to be a 6-9 working day delivery, but checked and now it's not due for delivery until 4 Jan. Queried lenovo and they gave me a stock "it's 2-3 weeks because of demand" sort of answer … is that normal/right?

    • You'll have to ask Lenovo. The ThinkPad I ordered last Friday just got shipped. Most my orders over the last 6-7 years are shipped within a week. So for an order not shipping for 2 weeks — that's indeed a bit unusual.

      • Thanks scotty, for your reply. I'll give them a bell.

  • I ordered E460 and paid by credit card
They called me to verify my details in order to release my order
I failed verification, since pending transaction ID and amount does not show up in my account. After the call, I received an email that I need to email or call them today to verify or my order will be canceled. I responded immideately but there was no indication about my order. I tried several times to contact the provided number which the line is dead. I called again, the line is still not available, had to call other centre to be transferred and the same happening again. I needed to see pending amount, so I went to the bank and I was told that pending transaction wont be visible. How am i supposed to verify my purchase then when even the bank tells me I wont be able to see it. Luckily
they allowed me to see their monitor and got the information. Tried to reach the payment and finance department through other departments. But the order number was incorrect which was given by payment department. It was totally chaotic. Frustruating.

    • +1

I can sympathise with you, and also have been very frustrated by Lenovo's poor (arrogant) customer service attitude.
Sometimes it is better to use PayPal.

      • +1

The finance team asked me to give pending transaction. After providing information, he asked me how I want to pay the amount. I was shocked. The amount has been paid from the day one and asking for that transaction then ask me to make payment ? What is all this about ? Is Lenovo's laptop worth to go through all these BS ? and there was no reasonable explanation why they gave me the someone else's order number and demanded me to reply them within a day then asked me where I got that order number from. Why so many unreasonable and unrelated questions I have to answer for purchasing laptop ? I do not know anymore when I placed order it said that it will ship in 2 days but the guy told me that it will be shipped in 10 days. It seems to be unrealistic to receive the product before the new year without further BS.

        • Lenovo seems to make a habit of favouring its corporate clients over its non-corporate customers.

    • I ordered a ThinkPad on Friday — no issue and that got shipped today.

Ordered another one yesterday and also received that verification email this afternoon. The phone number on the email is not engaged so I called the number on their website. Their support guy picked up the phone, gave him my order number, and 5 minutes later it's done (finger crossed).

      • good on you. I never thought that such BS would happen to me. Were you required to provide pending transaction amounts for verification ?

        • Nope. I did also reply the email with the amount though and just called up 2 hours to confirm.

  • How poor is the shipping?

The estimated delivery date was yesterday (not shipping date) according to the tracking details.

When you track it in detail, it hasn't even arrived in the country yet.

    • I guess it depends. The X1 Yoga we got arrived on Thursday.
