Mod: Deals that require a VPN or location spoofing(choice.com.au) are permissible but OzBargain neither endorses or condones this deal.

You are joking, right? That statement doesn't ring true when you publish the deal to your homepage.

  • Prices are on the up around here (Maitland area). Greenhills has gone up to almost $1.30 from $1.17

  • It could be argued that you are using deception to obtain a financial advantage (or obtaining property through financial deception), which is illegal in all States and Territories. Further, you would be using a computer device to obtain financial advantage through deception by unauthorised access which is another crime in itself.

While it might be the difference between $2-4, it doesn't change that you're using such methods are possibly a crime.

    I'd be treading wisely.

    • +2

      I'd be treading wisely.

      Treading in.. wattanobbi right??

    • You can't deceive a computer, as recently determined by a magistrate

      • What are you talking about?
There is no offence for deceiving a computer, there is an offence for obtaining financial advantage or property via deception, involving the use of a computer.

        • +1

There is no offence for being in wattanobbi a few hours ago either right?
          It's a nice place.

        • @hardya:
I've had a read of the actual case: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/nsw/NSWCCA/2016/260.html

It appears it is because "All this was in accordance with the terms of the contract between it and Mr Moore" (see paragraph 42-44), the person was authorised to money being loaned by the bank (as per the terms and conditions) and therefore did not deceive the bank, or obtain financial advantage through deception.

The same cannot be said when using a mock location to get cheaper fuel (albeit the the two events are on a completely different monetary scale). I am not suggesting that the police are going to be knocking on your door about this, but it doesn't change the fact that it is extremely fishy.

  • Anyone tried working this on jail broken iPhone?

    • +1

Yes. Use Protect My Privacy (from Cydia). I've mentioned it in this thread before.

  • +2

Thanks for the great deal, OP! Thank God I don't have any qualm in exploiting others for my own benefit.

Morale is such a sticky thing to have and that's why I decided to have none of it :D

    • +4

With no Morale i am surprised you even felt capable of taking advantage of this

      • +1

I just realised from my post that "moral" is spelled wrong lol.

  • Why is everyone saying this is stealing? You still have to pay 110c a litre for petrol. No different than abusing a price match policy. Sure you don't have to drive to wattanobbi to get the cheapest fuel price using this hack, that's about it really…

    • +13

What are you talking about mate. What hack?
We all just came from Wattanobbi.

      • +1

Yeeepp, I can vouch for that because I saw a bunch of nerds wearing OZBargain t-shirts when I was at the local RSL club. I'm pretty sure they ain't be driving 10 hrs all the way from Melbourne just for the Parma and Beers.

  • +1

There's a new update to the 7-11 fuel app.

    Anyone game?

    • +1

      Auto Update - OFF

    • Co-incidence I reckon. The update is also on the iOS store and updates don't get approved by Apple that quickly.

    • It did cross my mind

    • +1

They'll just make it so older versions of the app can't top up the fuel. It's not that hard to stop people from doing it.

  • +1

I used to use this app legit and have $60 on it but a few versions ago they added a root check and now I can't even use it because my device is rooted. I'm using system less root but when I disable root then it detects the xposed manager. I have the xposed root cloak module active but it still detects. What do you guys use to bypass the root detection on this?

    • +2
      • Oh thanks heaps man just uninstalled my version and installed that 1.04 and it's working again now. I seem to remember the app forcing me to update in the past so I think this version must be before they added that version check.

    • Same I did heaps trying to get this working -

They use the same root detection in an app called "RootBeer Sample"

Unpacked their code to try and work around the checks - but was a PAIN in the butt…

      • Haha I did the same thing don't know why I didn't try the far easier method of just downloading an earlier version until this guy pointed it out.

Very annoyed that I can't use Android Pay either.

        • As of today it's forcing you off older versions :(

        • @blehgg: maybe we can somehow patch out the version check thing and keep using it. The anti root thing is ridiculous.

        • @Agret:

Yea I was thinking the exact same thing this morning!

          too bad im at work….

Its getting better then it used to be mate

Bacchus Marsh/Melton ice capitals of Australia for sure LOL

Nobody can afford the petrol so they make it cheap!!! LOL

        • Prevents the number of failure to pays!

Hi i have locked the petrol price at Wyong 108.7 can i use that voucher in any suburb of sydney or specific to wyong only?

      • +1

Thanks Rod i will head straight away :))
        Cheers

  • +4

Tried all the steps. Lots of closing and opening of apps but I still can't past the "Mock Location Error".

  • i got it to work too

    • How did you get past the Mock locations error? Opening and closing the apps as others have stated didn't work for me.

      • +2
        1. Make sure you close the apps properly. I mean task kill them off. Dont just push the middle button and put them in suspend mode. Make sure you kill the 7-11 app off and the fake gps app off properly and then re-open the apps according to the instructions in the first post

        2. use the fake GPS app provided in this thread, not one of Play store.

        • What's the difference between the fake GPS app in the direct link and the Play store one?

        • @Hogg:

i installed both, i think same developer, but only the one in the thread worked.

        • @chingy213:

Am I too paranoid if I'm worried about downloading an app that's not from the store?

      • As per chingy213, and:
        1. Make sure the locations setting is in on "High accuracy", as opposed to "Device only" (Ie. "Use GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or mobile networks to determine location")
        2. If the app has problems finding location, then retry.

        Hope this helps.

        • Both done. And followed other posters' instructions but the Fuel app keeps detecting the Mock Location being enabled.

        • Hmm, that odd Hogg…

I was repeatedly trying to get it to work and in the end was changing the location setting which did it. I assume that you've already killed off the apps? Only thing I can think of is force stopping the app through Settings>Apps(7-Eleven Fuel/FakeGPS Free)>Force Stop.

        • @drus24:

          Tried that as well.

The Fuel app keeps detecting that Mock Locations is enabled even if FakeGPS app is closed.

        • @Hogg: You have to turn mock locations off at some stage. I don't have a step by step way to do it down pat. But I manage to get it working within 5 minutes.

        • @Rod71:

I tried doing that but that stops the FakeGPS from faking my location.

It would be awesome if you could let me know once you work out a consistent way to get it working. Thanks!

        • +1

@Hogg: What phone are you using?

For me, it didn't work on my Xiaomi but it worked on a OnePlus One.

Someone replied and said on Xiaomi you can still do it, but you need to turn airplane mode on/off. Tried it a couple of times on my Xiaomi but still can't get it working.

During the two occasions I've got it working on my OPO, I did not (need to) turn mock locations off.

Every time I tried turning mock locations off on my Xiaomi, it would then revert to my real location.

        • @illumination:

I'm using an old Moto G

I also got a PM from cwongtech offering help as well.

I really appreciate it when OZB members like you both take time out to help other members just out of helpfulness!

I'm going to try again :)

        • @illumination:

Tried with a ZTE Blade and still didn't work.

Tried cwongtech's instructions but no dice.

I will officially give up now.

cwongtech has kindly offered to login for me but it's just unsustainable in the long term if I have to rely on someone else for fuel top ups.

fill at Costco. Lest Sunday it was $1.09

    98.9/100.9/117.9 (e10/91/98) @ Westside Guildford, NSW today

    • Wow!
      Nice work!

      • BP down the same road is also cheap

        100.9/102.9/122.9

    • I already have 106.8 locked in

      can anyone confirm this?

      • +4

        It's not a 7-Eleven….

  • +1

Fuel has been a stitch up for the last few weeks in Sydney, rusted on at 130c/L - Someones making a killing if it can be sold for 110c in Wyong. It all comes from the same supplier anyway.

  • +4

Tested and worked (used a location - 2 hrs away), I don't consider this as a 'hack' - I mean if you found a loophole that gives $0.00 petrol, then yeah - but this is saving a mere few dollars, no different to the same ppl complaining about the hack use VPN to get cheap games/discounts to bypass geo restrictions.

  • Been playing around with it on an old Galaxy S3 but no joy :( Any ideas for old Android phones? Thanks.

  • +1

OP, I can't seem to get this GPS app working with Tinder. Looking for Kazahkstanian babes. Please advise.

  • +9

This isn't a new thing and plenty of people have been doing this for quite a while.
Someone I know owns a 7 11 servo and having spoke to them about this mock location thing in the past, they have confirmed they don't lose any money because of the cheaper prices. They get paid by 7 11 based on the quantity of fuel sold and get compensated by 7 11 head office for difference in price.

So, all worried about the franchisee owner losing money because of this can rest.

Enjoy this while it lasts. Surely 7 11 will enforce blocking the devices/accounts more than before because of the attention the thread has got / is getting

  • Superb op! If I did found out this long ago I would just keep it to myself and hopefully no one founds out, but you have done this to let lot of people benefit from. Thanks again.

  • +1

No 7/11's in SA. But I did lock in $1.03 using a 3x $5 jerry can hack from Bunnings, a 4c voucher, a wish gift card and an Amex!

  • +1

I got it to work. The mock location app must show as FakeGPS, and not 7-eleven fuel app.

I uninstalled the fuel app, then just run the FakeGPS app first.

  • Where do you get 7-11 fuel vouchers?

  • LOL I dont understand why sharing this hack on a public and famous forum, the exploit must have been patched for now by the devs…

Same thing happened to the Opal hack last year… the minister pretended to encourage people to beat the system, then patched and jacked the price up and removed the travel bonus…

If you find a way to beat any system, keep it to urself and people that are close to you if you wanna continue to reap the benefits.

    • While I'm all for sharing legal public access deals as the OzBargain spirit, I do think those exploits and hack (using the deal not as intended by the provider is best kept and shared privately.

You might have a surge of people taking advantage but then it got patched quickly. The benefit of few people over a long period of time will likely outweight short time surge.

Having said that, no idea how 7-11 will fix this unless they won't let the app run on jailbrokem or rooted devices.

      • they won't let the app run on jailbrokem or rooted devices.

Yeah there's root checker. One of my phones can't run this.
When I try use root cloaker, app just crashes.
        That's alright though.
Been to wattanobbi an hour ago :)

      • The app works fine on Jailbroken devices.

    • I truly appreciate the Robin Hood spirit from OP. How can you guarantee people close to you never share to others? The safest way is to keep for yourself if you wish to.

  • Do you need to put in your creditcard details and pay for your fuel to lock it in?

    • +1

You need to add money to the 7-Eleven app wallet which can then be used later to pay for the fuel.

  • Anybody got it to work on galaxy s4 with android 5.0.1?

    • Yep, no problems

      • +1

Could you please show me how to get it work, I never used Android before but just got a spare S4 from my dad. Thank you

  • +1

Not working on mine s7edge. Says disable mock location

  • +1

Demo of this in action with mock locations disabled and root access.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8hGgN_ctpY

    • that requires rooting your device :(

      • my device is not rooted and i have it working using the normal method.

        • My method doesn't require any apps to be closed and works 100% every time, unlike OPs.

  • +1

Can anyone from Wyong PM me? Looking for a lock buddy :D

  • Watanobbi has upped their prices on P98, now 126.7 ?

    • yeah so you can use the app and manually search an area to find a new price to lock in, or use compare the market fuel site,

  • +2

All this fraud and deception talk

    Lets think for a second

    1. Any publicity is good publicity for 7/11
    2. Everyone here is now going to be loyal to 7/11 for fuel and we are giving our hard earned money to 7/11. Not to BP, not to Shell etc.

    Its a win/win for everyone!

    • +3

      Good Call!

      • +2

I see what you did there…

  • +1

Have to consider risk and benefit.
    Risk: prosecuted
    Benefit: few dollars
Note: They know your identity unlike VPN

    • Prosecuted for what? Breaking 7/11 T&C's…..haha, the worst that could happen is they disable your account. You are not breaking any laws doing this!

      • "It is an offence to intentionally deceive someone to dishonestly benefit yourself or another person, or to cause a detriment to someone."
        http://www.lawhandbook.sa.gov.au/ch12s05s02s03.php

No I don't think this would happen, but technically it is against the law.

        • +2

But how will they prove that I did not drive past Watanobbi last night?

        • @billy_bob:
True, and I am sure they wouldn't bother trying.

        • @billy_bob:
          Great drive right!?

        • +1

@cwongtech: Used mine today, no problems at all ;)

  • Used this and the attendant seemed to have trouble scanning the code, some different beeping. Then he decided to question where I was able to get a cheap price lock, to which I responded "up the coast", he asked when so I said "earlier today", and he made a strange hmph noise.

I'm guessing they're well onto this and looking to do something about it. Probably investigating what and why.
