    False advertising in my opinion:

    Blackout
Inbound Travel from Singapore to Melbourne is not permitted from 6th July through 9th August 2010.
Inbound Travel from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne is not permitted from 6th July through 5th August 2010.

Over a whole month of the advertised period is blacked out.

    • Please have a look if you want to complain. i could found lots of advertise price

Did you see the fare rules? I guess not.

    • this is a good deal guys! and thats coming from a person who does the sing/kl up and down from oz around 4-6 times a year. Yes i appreciate the cheap air asia flights (which I have also taken many a time) but Emirates is a top notch airline. As previously mentioned, its on par if not better than singapore airlines in certain respects. I have flown this leg in Emirates cattle and yes, it often is empty so you can bunker down on the nearest 4 seater. The service and staff are also top notch. simply put, for $700 return on this airline, you just cant go wrong. The luggage limits are also 30kg so you can go hard snapping up all those bargain designer desirables in kl from 'reputable' fashion houses such as christian dire, prado and lewis veetan!

yes there is a blackout period, but that is part of the fare rules which they tell you about before you book, its not like you are trying to book days and nothing is coming up for return flights in that date range. Every airline has blackout periods/conditions etc on sale fares, thats just the way it works, and therefore, i dont think the neg vote above is justified. well thats my 2 cents.

Every airline has blackout periods/conditions etc on sale fares

Except that in this instance the blackout period covers 45% of the advertised dates! That's right, 34 of the 75 days in the sale are blacked out.

That's false advertising if you ask me.

        • At least its clearly advertised. People can make up their own judgement whether the dates suit them or not. If dates are suitable for some people, then its a bargain. Notice the blackout is for mainly INBOUND only.

          • @zhenjie: It is a blackout period which prevents use of a substantial part of the advertised period.

They should just amend the dates which the offer is available from/to.

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: That's not true. You can depart on 8th July and return on 7th August, KL/MEL.
This will meet all the fare conditions.
Fare condition only states that you can't return before 5th Aug.

Therefore, there is nothing wrong with the travel period. You can depart on ANY date starting from 6th Jul for KL, and 10th jul for SIN

              • @amkssg: Try returning.

                • @YesPleaseThankYou: Did you at least try to search for fares before commenting?
Examples of fares at $702 for Mel-Sin Return.

                  Depart: 12,13,14,15,16,17 or 18th July
                  Return: 11,13 or 14th August.

                  • @amkssg: The fare rules make the blackout dates clear.

45% of the advertised period is, in fact, blacked out.

                    • -1

@YesPleaseThankYou: Its actually not if you bothered to look at the results returned for the blackout period.

                      Just one example amongst many…

Mel to KUL depart 26July - return 6th Aug $695.95 rtn

Mods: Surely this isn't a valid reason for a neg?

                      • @Ndiddy: It's the fare rules that count. If the rules are wrong then they should be corrected.

In my books having 45% of the advertised period BLACKED OUT is false advertising.

                        Face the facts.

                        • @YesPleaseThankYou: Edit: I'll take that back.

You're reason for a neg is not valid according to the rules. So even if in YOUR opinion this is false advertising the FACT of the matter is that the fares are available even in the blackout period.

May be you should face the facts before being so trigger happy:

MODS: May be updating the post is required?

                        • @YesPleaseThankYou: There was nothing wrong with the rules. The dates were correct, its just that you are reading it incorrectly.

For this i am assuming a journey of MEL-KUL-MEL. Since your ORIGIN is MEL, therefore the dates quoted for promotion are "dates of departure from Mel", therefore making the timeline correct.

or to make in simpler, this means:

Dates for travel from MEL to KUL:
                          06 Jul 10 - 16 Sep 10

Dates for return from KUL to MEL:
                          06 Aug 10 - 19 Sep 10
(ie. blackout from 06 Jul - 05 Aug)

Therefore, it is not 45% blackout as you claim, since it only applies to the returning leg. (and obviously, you can't return before you depart, therefore making the blackout period approx, 12.5%)

06 Jul 10 - 19 Sep 10 refers to the dates of departure from Mel, and there are absolutely ZERO black out dates for this period, making the advertisement correct. In industrial practice, dates are listed from the first departing flight to the last arriving flight, which is exactly what they did.

                          • @amkssg: Hi guys,

maybe we'll leave this as it is.

YesPleaseThankYou has drawn attention to the fact that, the one way fare, may only apply to one direction of your journey. ie for most of the sale period, the return fare will be at a higher price

Others have pointed out that, apart from that, the post is a bargain.

                            It's 7+ and 1-

Other people can read the deal, check if the -ve point affects them, then either walk away or perhaps benefit/comment.

The 7+ vs 1- should also highlight that most people voting think it's a deal

  • How's the Emirates service and the general condition of the planes? Comparable to SIA?

    • +2

same if not better. both great airlines.

    • I think they have 10 seats across, whilst singapore only have 9 across on the 777's.

    • Flew Emirates earlier in the year, certainly as good as singapore airlines …. Emirates have better entertainment systems (in the newer 777's)….bigger screens etc, more channels…. 600+ channels infact.

  • took emirates twice last year and sia once. Both times when the prices were lower than this, the plane was virtually empty, everyone took 3 or 4 seats to sleep. so if you want to beat the crowd, its better! personal entertainment system is touch screen too.
