I hope all of this leads to something. Making it free plus Backwards Compatible makes me a bit sus.

Anyway it's a fantastic game that any RPG fan should play.

  • ah this thing is back up.. let's hope it works this time! Very happy about this as my Xbone is so lacking in JRPGs ive been playing Pier Solar ffs !

    • I tried playing that back on the PS3. In between it not being particularly great combined with the fact that the game crashed and erased my save file I don't think I'll be going back to it.

Also this is an official thing that last for the rest of the month. I just redeemed it myself (already have it on disc(s), it's just nice to have a backup). It's about 16GB though (probably the biggest file size for a game on the 360) so just keep that in mind. Still, like I said it's a fantastic game if you're a fan of turn based RPG's and it's worth it alone for the characters, visual novel segments and the boss battles.

      • yeah its not the best but beggars can't be choosers, i also dabbled with Earthlock which was a free xbox gold game a couple of months ago, seems okay but overall there's a severe lack of RPGs on xbone compared to 360, evident in the fact they are making Back compat games like blue dragon and lost odyssey et al

      • this was an Xb360 exclusive.

        • +2

i believe he meant Pier Solar

  • Loved this game. 4 discs from memory. Thanks Op. Although on ps4 now lol still got it

    • lost odyssey is on ps4?? BS m8 it's xbox exclusive

      • +3

Read it again, he is saying that he is on PS4 now, not the game.

        • +1

          oh i see, cheers m8

Lost Odyssey on 360 is 23.2 GB for all 4 discs (5.8, 5.2, 6.3, and 6.2) It's a great JRPG game. Well worth playing. Especially for free and on XB1.

Blue Dragon also backwards compatible but not free for XB1. Is also another great JRPG game worth playing.

    • Digital version is only 16 or so GB. Started downloading it this morning. Amazing freebie.

      • It showed as 16Gb or so before you start installing but once you start installing it does then change to a bit over 22Gb.

    • not free for me?
      $30

Or is it only free if you have xbox live?

      • Free for me, 'bought' just then, only silver tier so no gold required

        • -1

Blue Dragon was free for you?
          Are you SURE?

        • +1

@Krondorf: Oh, no, Lost Odyssey was free, not Blue Dragon

  • +1

Noice. Wouldnt mind Blue Dragon for free too.

  • Thanks! bought it on the webpage, will start downloading next time I log in to my 360.

  • It says available on xbox one.. but no where to download to xbox one, only xbox360?

    • login to xbox one, goto my games and apps, select it and install

edit: to clarify, it's back compat, it's a 360 game available on xbone

    • I think you need to download from the XBone itself, appears in the game list

    • Confirmed you can do it online. Just choose the Xbox360 version and it will automatically download. To find it, look in your "ready to install" menu.

  • Fantastic old school JRPG.

Warning, keep some tissues handy for some of the memories.

  • Fantastic. I've been thinking about getting this. Cheers, OP.

  • +1

    TA you forgot cashrewards

  • Thanks OP, this is a fantastic old JRPG!

  • Beautiful story, play this game just for the poem fragments alone.

  • Not work "You have no valid payment options on file." I think maybe I do not have xbox console. so they cant process through. request for US payment method or address 0,0

  • -1

Asking for credit card… I'll pass

    • as long as you have a payment option this will work. The card or paypal won't be charged. I've been downloading free games on Xbox with this method for many years. Give it a go and you'll see that the price is free.

      • Interesting that I can go to other free games (eg World of Tanks) and download with no problem, but I have to have a credit card on file to download this. For all sorts of reasons I don't want a card on file for this account, so it's a pass from me as well.

        Thanks OP for posting anyway.

        • I have a "disposable" debit card with $1 in it for occasions like these. I use it on all freebies that require payment method on file.

        • +3

uhmm cuz world of tanks is a free game. this is a limited time offer.

    • I don't think you need one if you get it on the console, although I could be wrong. Anyway just add your details then remove them afterwards. Not like it costs anything.

  • +1

Just login to the au marketplace, search the game and bam you're done.

    Not that hard.

    • Nope, still insists on having a credit card on the account.

      • have u tried searching on the console rather than on a pc?

        • Will give that a go at Christmas, console is currently wrapped up under the Christmas tree! Thanks.

        • Confirmed…..still asks for payment info if searching via console.

      • Same here wont let me have it without a credit card on account either.

  • I still have the xbox360 physical copy along with my xb360. is there any different if played on the xb1?

    • You won't need the disc in if you get the digital copy and your save from the 360 will work with this so you can continue from where you left off.

      • ah k.. noob question since i havent turned on my xb1 in a very long time.. If i use my 360 disc, would it download stuff like how it does for the xb1 games? like if i had to switch from disc 1 to disc 2.. would that mean i would have to wait for it to install???

  • -2

Much prefer digital games to discs. Often when you have to trawl through 30 discs to find the game you want to play you can't be bothered. Silly system to still need discs.

    • Agreed, MS and Sony listening to the big mob cry about needing internet access and wanting to rent games from establishments that no longer exist set console gaming back a bit in my opinion. Should have stuck to their guns the media backlash would have subsided for common sense.

      • The two main problems for me are:

        1) You can't resell your digital copy once you've finished the game (or if you end up hating the game, you can't return/on-sell it and it will be in your digital game library forever!)

        2) The game download sizes are usually insane nowadays (I have superfast internet and a 1000GB limit, but I would still much rather buy the disc version anyway).

        • Not to mention the fact that obtaining a refund is difficult aside from the most specific of circumstances (a broken game gets removed or No Man's Sky), as well as the fact that it is only free on your profile. If you lose that profile for whatever reason it's gone.

        • -1

          1) I think you take that chance with anything you buy. Its easier than ever to see if a game interests you or not, buy it on special if you are still undecided. Renting could evolve digitally anyway.

          2) You weren't required to download every game, it meant you didn't have to swap disks every time after you installed the game. The fact that you still need the disk afterwards affects user experience compared to "everything at your fingertips" style tech which is the norm today.

        • Good point about reselling a game, fair enough if you want to. You'd think it could be done electronically though like Bitcoin if they tried.

As far as crazy download sizes totally correct. Having the disk doesn't seem to help much though. I've installed some recently then they immediately require a huge update. Must be nearly the whole game.

    • I mean, except for if your account gets hacked or banned and you lose access to your thousands of dollars of games.

I have a shitload of digital games, literally thousands (I just broke 2000 the other week) of PSN digital games and DLC things alone, and I hate the idea of a digital only future.

The idea that my pile of games can be taken from me at any minute, or pulled from the store, or that Sony (I say them only because it's unlikely for Microsoft) finally goes bankrupt and just make their store go down entirely, or that I could get hacked and lose it all, all of that shit, nope, not (profanity) having it. My PS2 stack sits there fine with no risk of being lost and the security of being way too (profanity) heavy for someone to break in and literally steal from me.

      • I'd guess if your account was hacked they'd be sympathetic to restore you into a new account as your purchases would have an audit trail. It's not in their interests to burn their clients as reputation is everything.

These things depreciate pretty fast usually anyway. Look at EB selling preowned stuff for a few bucks.
I went out with a girl once that was obsessed with her cd collection. Can't imagine that collection being worth too much these days with ipods and sharing.

Great game, have it on disc and great to see it go free for others to try, expansions was good and also…

PROTIP - you can get the triple bonus pack for free from the Japan Xbox store.

The other dlc is certainly worth it too, and make sure you take the time to read the dreams, some lovely stories in there,

    • Wouldn't they be in Japanese though?

      • If you pick that as your language option then sure, you could always not do that though.

    • +1

can you elaborate on this? Ive been to the store, changed region to Japan and it still comes up as 258 Yen, are you sure this currently works?

  • Thanks!!!

  • Thanks OP!

  • Wondered when this would be back up propers.

Another day, another free Xbox game from OzB. Cheers!

  • Cheers OP

Want payment card on file for free game. Fail

  • +1

This game was actually pretty good. Nice freebie!

  • +1

Thanks TA. I'll get it, but I probably won't end up playing it haha.

  • Probably the best JRPG of the last gen. Some balance issues but otherwise well worth the play if you are a fan of the original FFs.

  • Wow, amazing freebie!! This game is great.

  • +2

I wish they would make another one of these.
    Probably won't ever happen though

  • I don't have XBox 360 but XBox One S. Can I still download this?

    • +3

      YES

    • Ofcourse. It's been backwards compat for a while now. It runs better on your Xbone too with full v-sync and a better frame rate.

  • +2

Daaamn this is a good deal. This is easily one of the best RPGs of last gen. Highly underrated and highly underplayed. Grab it /now/.

  • -1

Story written by Hironobu Sakaguchi, Music by Nobuo Uematsu.

This should be enough reason for any J-RPG fan to get this.

  • Wow, this was that one game that I rented once upon a time and always wanted to find out how it ended.

    Much appreciated OP.

  • +1

Do you need to setup payment options in your microsoft/xbox account even though it's free?

    • It asks me to on the web and console even after removing and readding a PayPal. This is mobile, app, desktop, 360 console and Xbox One console.

I don't have a credit card but do have all those devices and xbl gold and still can't get it. Almost tempted to neg.

      • I logged into my account via pc, added a paypal account because i had no previous payment methods. Then I browsed via xbox1 with the same account, and was then able to "purchase" the free game

        • I've done exactly that and still no dice.

        • @YaBigGoose:
i had issues with getting this game. even tho i already had a ccard on file, it kept asking me for credit information. i found out my card is registered under US. contacted support and they sent me to a link to transfer my account from US to australia. all sorted .
          hope that helps

  • +2

One of the most underrated games of the last gen - if you lose yourself to the story and read all the lore and stories, you'll get a heck of a lot out of it, as it's supremely well written.

  • -2

note blue dragon is free too
i cant b bothered posting the deal

    • +1

      Blue Dragon isn't free :(

  • good
