Polaroid 64.8 inch UHD Smart TV $804.30 Big W Richmond NSW

100

My brother sent me this from Big W Richmond. 65 inch Smart UHD from Polaroid. Reviews say positives are Sharp colour rich HD, impressive 4K and HDCP 2.2 compatible. Negatives are Smart portal not great and sound a bit tinny.
How bad can it be for $800???

Polaroid is a big trusted brand, like Kodak

    • +2

      Polaroid…now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

    • +3

      *was a big trusted brand.

Polaroid filed for bankruptcy some time ago and effectively sold off it's assets/name/marketing. It's akin to Atari, which is no longer the same company that it originally was.

    • When it comes to cameras and film.

Oh wait, they don't make those anymore…

    • +3

"Although Kodak developed a digital camera in 1975, the first of its kind, the product was dropped for fear it would threaten Kodak's photographic film business.."

      • They were right. Still, LPs are making a come back, so why not film?

  • where to find reviews for it?

    • Just google it

      • couldnt find the exact model thats why i asked, is there a model number? the one in the picture turns up nothing in google

        • I couldn't find any reference to that model either

  • Sorry mate. I just looked at the 4K model reviews

  • Yeah Big W are having 30% off discontinued models atm. Saw that model at Wetheril Park too.

64.8 inches seems a little large to try and shake to get the picture to show…

Why is this "cheapo" so expensive compared to the other Hoo Chings?

    • +9

cause you gotta pay for the less xenophobic branding

      • +2

A know a greek guy, swears by his Xenophonic brand gear.

        • It's certainly good enough for South Australia…

Looking forward to seeing how this thread develops…

So do I have to shake this TV if I want to watch it?

  • +1

That's $804 and 30c you could invest in a good tv.

  • How does it compare to the Bauhn for the same price?

    • The $800 bauhn benefits greatly from the ability to adjust advanced colour settings in the service menu
But this one is 'Smart', so it's more comparable to the $1100 bauhn.

      • Thanks knowledgable anon.

Not interested in the smart features, so may as well wait for another Bauhn 65". Bought one last time but got a panel with horrible banding issues.

      • The $800 bauhn benefits greatly from the ability to adjust advanced colour settings in the service menu

You make it sound like the Bauhn has something unique.

Which it doesn't - all TV's have a Service menu where you can adjust advanced colour settings.

        • Really? All? These Chinese cheapies are often built from similar but different firmware, some of which choose to expose the service menu, some not. Its hit and miss whether you can get the remote code to open the menu. If it's not available, you are stuck with the basic brightness/contrast/saturation sliders and calibration will always end in compromised settings. The most recent 65"bauhn (but not all bauhns!) allows access to RGB gain and offset, as well as gamma and a few other settings through the service menu.

        • @sirob1:

          Yeah yeah, whatever.

HOW DO YOU KNOW that this Polariod doesn't have access to a Service Menu?

        • @sirob1:

          as well as gamma

Doesn't that just make the picture all green & angry?

        • @llama: I dont….point being it's luck of the draw if you get a chinese model with enough adjustment to make the picture passable.

  • Any real tight ASS doesn't care if it works….. it's $800 bucks and 65 inches!!!

    • +5

For a "Tight Ass" , thats a lot of inches

  • Quality about on par with brands such as Konka, Palsonic and Soniq?

    • -1

Are you making a statement? In which case, you should end with a full stop, not a question mark.

      • Dunno, sounds like they're asking a question. Rephrased: "Is the quality about on bar with brands such as Konka, Palsonic and Soniq?"

        I also want to know.

Am willing to eat a small hamburger if I'm wrong.

  • Polaroid branded TV.. What could possibility go wrong?!??!?! Must order in the name of science!! B-)

  • What a Jolly thread this has become.

  • So did anyone buy one?

There are 3 left at Warrawong NSW.

  • Does anyone know if this model supports 3D and if it does, what format. Thanks

    • does it say or indicate anywhere that it supports 3d?

      • CVonC, please read below

  • CVonC, not sure if this is sarcasm or not but if you look up Polaroid TV's online, it seems that most of their models over there in America do support 3D and you get 8 pairs of glasses with them on purchase. Very few of the TV's on offer now even bother to mention that they support 3D but a lot of them do so I think my question is fair

    • Unfortunately, there is no info available for this model. But you are welcome to contact Tempo who support and distribute Polaroid TVs:

Thankyou CVonC for that link, appreciate it

        • Let us know if you find anything out. I'm curious too.

I did contact Tempo and they replied very promptly saying the 64.8 inch TV does not support 3D. They did however send me a user manual on the model. I have attached the PDF here. Well that Copy and Paste didn't seem to work so if anyone wants a copy, email me on [email protected] and I will forward it to you.
