Received email showing only 15days trail.

    • I already had an Insync Prime account and have been using it for a few months so I know the service/app itself is real and works well. But I too got the 15days trail email when I tried to get this promo for another gmail account.

    • I just received an email from Insync:

This is to confirm that you've successfully redeemed your free Insync Prime from our promo. Please disregard any previous email that was sent to you about being on a trial.

Don't forget to share the gift with others :)

So it looks like the offer is genuine.

  • same here , its not free

  • Got the 15 trial email too. Is this a scam?

  • Don't know the service and haven't activated from the link - but, looking at the linked page I would say 'Insync' is free but 'Insync Prime' is $39.99 once off per google account but with a 15 free day trial.

    scam!

  • For a standard Gmail account it appears to work, for a Google Apps account it's only a trial…

    • Ohh… now I see what you guys mean… the intro email says it's only a trial after the website indicates it's a free lifetime Prime account…

Very much a bait and switch, unless they haven't updated their intro emails.

I'm a previous user of insync on linux and it seems to work fine for me, no mention of 15 days free, I simply ran it and it automatically updated my three gmail accounts to prime. So? … maybe for new users you're just getting an automatic email?

    • I can't find any link to a "dashboard" or something that shows account status… you have one?

On the linux app theres an widget on my taskbar and it says thank you for upgrading to prime and there's no dates etc; indicating it has an expiry. Previously it said how many days I had and that it was the trial version. I used it a few months ago to back up all my video and pictures from two phones and even a lost phone from the cloud. Its a good app so its definitely worth adding even if it turns out to be fake, then you can just uninstall it. The files stay on your cloud and computer after the trial ends anyway you just can't keep the cloud synced with your computer anymore. Seems legit to me.

  • Looks legit:

You open the box and you see - no, not coal

I believe that's just the usual automated reply.

If in doubt just take screen shots of their offer on their website if your account expires you've got some proof.

But I'd say it's all good, enjoy the early Christmas pressie. :)

  • Just a quick question. It seems they are based in Singapore. Data security, would any of our data go through their servers or directly to Google only?

    • Therein, lies the rub.
When you install any thick-client, particularly, one that integrates with OS, you never know. Windows' host-based firewall might be able to do it, but then, application can change it with next update, requiring UAC. The only way to be sure is with network-based firewall, but even then, you have to know what to do - blocking application (if firewall is UTM), address, URL, ports?
