      have a look: https://usenetreviewz.com/xsnews-review/

If you speak Dutch and are located in the EU, there’s really no reason not to recommend this provider. They’ve got great packages, good pricing and a reliable service. If you’re an English, Spanish or other language speaker, however, you’re likely to get frustrated with the lack of documentation in your language. One case where we can strongly recommend this provider is as a backup, block access service to go along with your regular subscription.

      • I bought a block, will see how they go.

      • Seriously, if you already know what this is and are looking at it what sort of documentation do you need?? Pay them money, choose a username and password, grab their server and port numbers and your good to go.

        • The stuff about Dutch documentation looks old anyway, the FAQ is available in English.
I haven't used Usenet for more than a decade, but it is useful for my once in a blue moon needs, compared to peer based alternatives.
Tested the service and it seems good.

I might grab a block account too to act as a backup to my main subscription, via Extremeusenet.nl.

FWIW this is handy to ensure that any multiple providers you might have are on different back-ends i.e no point having a backup if they're using the same servers.

      • I've tried to understand that map and failed many times. It's such a mess.

      • Get a block account with a different provider to fill what's missing from your main provider.

Many usenet services resell the same provider's service. Make sure both your servers aren't from the same provider or there's no point.

I only have one service and it's served me better than any other.

      • Very handy, I have usenet bucket, which seems to be using the xsnews server. So no use getting this as a backup I guess. Assuming the charts accurate that is.

    • Their completion rate is very good compared to US servers or servers like Astraweb.

But EU or dutch retention is normally around 1000 days.

They get fewer takedowns than US servers, though it's still going to happen.

  • Hmmmmm dunno about the block account value 100gb ends up being $AUD20 - doesn't float my boat. The subscriptions aren't too bad, ~$AUD39 per year on the Pro plan.

Long shot but does anyone have any invites to decent Indexers they might be willing to extend to someone who would be a good member? I've paid memberships at Nzbplanet and also Nzbgrabit….find both a tad so-so. Kicking myself I missed out when Dog has rego open a few weeks back. Thanks in advance and happy to answer any queries prior to anyone offering anything (best done via PM).

    • Newb question, but how would a private index be better than public/automated? More complete or better interface? Earlier access?

      • BAsically all those things you've stated - they've got folks working on making the inferface more user friendly, vetting content, etc etc - its money well spent vs the few public nzb search sites I used.

  • I have nzb.su invites willing to trade for a dog invite

  • On the block front Thundernews still has a 200gb block on special for $USD10: https://www.thundernews.com/signup_bf_2016.php
And perhaps quite a bit superior to that is usenet.farm's 500gb for 15euro (~AUD$22).

  • I use a different server based on XSNEWS. They are the best I've had as far as completion rates, especially for older posts.

Can you post prices though? Because I can't tell if the prices listed on their site is after 60% discount, or before the discount. If it's after discount, it still seems a bit dear. But before discount, that's deal of the year.

    Elite
    Unlimited Speed
    € 8,20
    per month

If I can get 60% off of this, I'd lock in 2 years.

Update: 78.72 EUR =113.721AUD for Unlimited 2 years, unlimited speed. That's an amazing deal.

I use Newsgrabber. They let you buy one week plans for around 2 EUR, depending on speed. What I used to do was save up NZBs to download and when I had a large enough amount of stuff, I'd subscribe for one week, download them all, and wait another month or two before the next batch. This is cheaper than monthly or yearly subscriptions as long as I don't mind waiting. There are other ways to get things if I must have it now. But for this price, I might just get a 2 year subscription and not worry about it.

For those wondering if they're good. I totally vouch for them. I'd stay away from anything using UNS or Astraweb. Sure they have 2000+ days retention but I've found anything over 800 days old, the completion is so poor you can't repair it. That doesn't happen at the same age with XS. As long as you don't require more than 1000 days retention, this is the best I've used, and I've used many.

    • Prices are before discount.

  • There's also another discount coupon I got on my email.

    Special coupon: XMAS1630

As you know, XS Usenet does not enforce long term subscriptions or complicated order processes. Our services are 100% prepaid and can be terminated at any time.Use our coupon XMAS1630 and receive 30% recurring discount on any billing cycle for any package. This offer is valid until January 1, don't miss out!

This is only 30% but it's recurring. I don't think the 60% coupon will continue once the term is up. This could be good if you do one month at a time.
