  • Great price

    • Has anyone actually received one of these yet?

  • +1

    Is it black or Gold???
"Sleek black design looks great and takes up minimal space on your desk or computer bag."

    • Or silver like in the pics. Jennica/Minnie can answer?

      • The Color in Cold.

        • Minnie, do you know what kind of connection it has INSIDE the case?

          • @Pizza The Hut: This model is using USB connect with your computer. It is the answer you want?

            • @minniewu: inside the case I mean. Like if I cracked it open to stick inside my computer, what sort of connection will I find?

    • I think it's more likely to be Gold and the reference to Black is just a sloppy copy/paste error.
There are Gold and a Black models available if you search the model number.

  • got one thanks

    i like the gold one

  • Handy to have a USB DVD burner around.
The extra shipping brings it to about the same price as other external dvd burners http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=external+dvd+bu… . $5-10 less maybe.

Plus I'm still waiting on a hard drive deal these guys had at the start of July. (They claim it was 1 per paypal user, but have stated that it wasn't written down in the terms and conditions)

Not a negative, just not really a bargain when you include postage.

  • is this USB powered? or adapter powered?

    • USB

      • Looking at reviews it uses a power brick.

        http://www.myce.com/review/sony-drx-s70u-w-slimline-dvd-writ…

        • That kinda kills the usefulness.
Think I'll just stick to the one I've got.
          Still/good price

          • @King Tightarse: yeah I agree somewhat. I'm half tempted since I have one PC without an optical drive but I think USB sticks do the job fine 98% of the time anyway.

            • +1

@Smigit: Optical drives are pretty over anyway.
So long as you have one access to one reliable burner around the house most stuff has gone beyond the need now.
Still burn the occasional DVD fr my mum though.
              So 2009…

      • USB + Powerbrick as Smidgit has found.

  • whats the colour ?????????????

    • Gold color. Sorry about we didn't mention on the product page.

  • Not bad if you've got a slim laptop or a netbook

  • can't buy more than 1 with paypal?

    • of cause you can.

      • in the quantity, I type 2, and it pop up a box saying "Sorry, we only allow 1 item(s) per paypal account."

        • it is? OMG. Let me check with our IT department.

          • @minniewu: thanks.

            • @canleyheights: We are make a change now.

Thanks for letting us know about this.

              • -3

@minniewu: you should sill set it to less than 5 items

i just picked 100 then it told me you only had 30 then i was able to take the lot
and make your site say sold out

sorry every one i will put them all back as i got one at the start

          • @minniewu: "…Let me check with our IT department."

Translates into Mandarin as: " Wang, you lazy good for nuffin' you've screwed up again!"

            • -6

@Horizon: Geez, that was quick. Wang's already negged me in 200 milliseconds. Touchy.

    • which browser are you using Michegianni?

  • Tried chrome and iexplore. Both don't work. I want one.

Save one for me pls. I really want one.

  • is this power by usb only or do i need to use a power pack?

  • Was about to buy this for my netbook until I saw that this model cannot run entirely off USB power. A bit disappointing that this model requires a power brick

    • same here, I was going to get one for my laptop but the power pack would just get annoying.

  • Nice little burner. Although pretty slow. Still a good deal though.

  • +3

Sigh… I was so going to purchase one until I read the word "Power Brick". :(

    • Ya It's use power brick, but it's still a good price for people who have netbook I think……

      • +2

or…you could put one up tomorrow that doesn't use a power brick :-)

        • Damn would have grabbed one if it was USB powered

          • +1

@GerrardLFC: I agree. Would of bought one if it was USB powered.

Hopefully they'll put one up tomorrow :D

  • Fiddlesticks! This deal comes just a few days too late for me - went looking for a cheap external slim DVD drive on the weekend and got a $59 Samsung.

EDIT: Drats! Just been looking into the power issue and seems confirmed the Sony requires the AC adaptor. My Samsung reads/writes fine plugged into one USB port on my ASUS and MSI netbooks (though the supplied cable is a Y adaptor just in case).

    • Pretty sure this Sony is made by Samsung.

Actual burner inside the "nice" Sony case = Samsung
It's all in the marketing these days…

  • sony RRP is $129.99, grab it while you can!

    • the rrp may be a bit outdated

  • SOLD OUT

    • Update it already~

      • sorry to hijack this thread, but minniewu, I have been emailling [email protected] a few times last week and again yesterday about my $199 monitor order, but no one has replied. I would have sent you a private message here but it said your profile didn't allow it. I am worried my emails to the above address are going into spam. Can you send me an email (from the 'contact' page on my profile) so I can find out where my order is up to please? thank you.

Here use this one its minnie's
          [email protected]

          • @Inferno_Gunz: cheers. contacted and she's looking into it for me.

        • Salem - I am having the same problem with PricesEngine as well. Trying to get a tax invoice to claim back the cashback, but Pricesengine doesn't seem to respond.

          • @Besean: That is because we have problem with our invoice system before, we are fixing now and try to email out all the customer who have not receive their invoice today.

And our customer service are trying to reply all of our customer email now. Don't worry I will follow up for your guys who have not receive the invoice.

Will try to send all out today.

Sorry for the late and thanks for your understanding.

      • hi miss Wu, could you please cancel my order? my purchase id is PE28991354. I did not know it cannot be powered by USB. So it is not portable at all. Thanks

        • I can not help you with this action, because I'm just in charge in PR and Marketing. But I can ask our customer service to help you with that.

          Sorry about that.

          • @minniewu: could you please let your customer service team know that? thanks for your kind help.

            • @rainy118: Sure I have already email them, will told them tomorrow too.

              Thanks

  • When I was looking into these I was very disappointed to find that the Sony lines did not support USB-power — it seemed almost deceptive to use "portable" when the drive is only portable within the home (so is my fridge).

A few months ago, I randomly encountered some references on a forum about using a certain PSP cable to power it via the USB port.

I think this was the link:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B000IX2FRU/ref=dp_to…

There are some similar looking devices in the What Do Customers Ultimately Buy After Viewing This Item? section, too.

I can't find the reference, so I'm not 100% sure, this link was in my browser history, anyway check it out if you like.

    • It might work using a Y cable… Could try a USB to Power Jack lead…

I just need a small one power point is ok but annoying.

  • I am still trying to work out why anyone would want one with a power brick. Completely defeats the purpose of it being portable, unless I am missing something.

  • minniewu my friend paid for the i5 750 sale two weeks ago, and he hasn't recieved anything after an email saying "your order is being processed". Paypal has charged him for the purchase.

He said he has sent Prices Engine 5 emails and got no response.
    What's happening?

    • There was lot of customer email us about this before. Our system has mail out an email to tell our customer that you have to verify your paypal account in order to process your order with PricesEngine, otherwise we can not ship out your item.

Most of customer are not reading our system email and just waiting for the package coming.

Can you check your PayPal account for me please? Maybe your are still not verify your paypal account with PayPal.

If you PayPal account it's been verfiried by PayPal, I think you will be receive your item Soon.

You can let me know by send the email to [email protected] and CC to [email protected].

Thanks for your help and understanding.

  • Reading the review, it looks like it is a portable dvd drive until you want to use it as well :(

Does anyone know if there a portable dvd drive in the market that do not require a power adaptor?

  • +1

    http://www.game.co.uk/Accessories/PSP/Cables-and-Adapters/GA…

The Gameware USB link & charger cable for the PSP removes the need for the external power adapter.

  • Hi, I have received this email:

As we stated in the Terms & Conditions:

    "3. Orders:
    • Products displayed on the website do not constitute an offer to sell. It is an invitation to treat only.
    • Orders placed by customers are offers to purchase particular product under the terms and conditions in this agreement at the price specified (including delivery and other charges).
    • Pricesengine reserves the right to accept or reject your order for any reason including, but not limited to the unavailability of any product, an error in the price or product description, an error in your order or a payer status in your PayPal account is marked as unverified. For your PayPal status is unverified, we will wait three days for your PayPal account verification done since you place the order. After three days, pricesengine has the right to cancel the order if your Paypal status is still unverified. In the event that we cancel your order, we will provide a full refund of any payment received.
    • Pricesengine DO NOT accepts any return or refund once the order has been confirmed."

We don't accept cancellation of order.

I have canceled the order 1 hr after placing it. So beware they do not allow refunds even if the item is not sent yet.

    • Ignorance of PayPal's, or Credit Card Service Provider's T&Cs is no excuse for the guy running Prices Engine.

If he accepts Paypal & hence Credit Cards, he contractually accepts their T&Cs.

And I think you'll find they really don't care less if he says he does or doesn't accept cancellation of orders, they do, and will simply do a chargeback in your favour. Been there, done that.
