You're half right: the 1070 is heaps better, but it's also a lot more expensive. Looking at the eBay sale (limited selection, I know), they're $729 (before 20% off), or $583 after. That's a big difference, unfortunately.

Well, the cheapest gigabyte 3gb 1060 card on staticice shows up at $294, with the cheapest 1060 3gb of any brand being $274, neither of which are delivered prices.

Is this good upgrade from Asus strix gtx 970?
I wouldn't bother. I've got the same card and I'm holding out for a 1070 at least.
The price was very tempting. Well its out of stock now anyways. I guess I will lookout for 1070 too.

Plus you can sell the Strix 970 for ~$250 from what I've seen, so it would be a 'free' upgrade.
