PROMO10

Received an email from Coles Credit Card. If you are a new Coles Credit Card customer, you can collect 20,000 bonus Flybuys Points when you enter promo code "PROMO10" with your application. Currently the website is running the $100 off promotion, so you don't need to enter the code if you decide to choose $100 off. But most ozbargainers would prefer bonus points.

  • Good deal mate! Dont forget to add their shoppers protection also. Comes in handy if something you buy comes down in price after you bought it. You get the difference back. Also insures against accidental damage, loss and theft for 6 months I think.

    Great for mobile phones.

    • just fyi this is because its basically a coles branded Latitude financial 28 degrees mastercard with the sign up bonus

      • But much better including flybuys rewards points for platinum cards and no fees for bday payments

    Coles New World

  • I already have a coles credit card from the last time they had this deal. Would it work if I cancelled my card and signed up again with this offer?

    • Even though there are no restrictions on whether a recent cardholder can apply, the credit score lost on the credit check is better used for applying for other cards as they get you more than $100.

      • From what i've heard cancelling a credit card doesn't affect your credit rating?

        • +1

Cancelling doesn't. Applying for one does though.

    • +2

I had a Coles credit card, cancelled it then applied for a new one when they were running the 0% p.a on purchases and balance transfers in late 2016. Was successful in receving the offer.

  • What's worth more 20,000 flybys points or $100 off?

    • +1

Worth exactly the same - 2000 FB points = $10 off your shopping. The only difference would be you could use the Flybuys points for something else, or choose to redeem them for $off as and when you wish at a later date. The $100 off has to be used in one go, and expires in a few months.

      • So the flybuys points are a better deal?

Can one use multiple $10 discounts per shop?

Do the 20,000 bonus flybuys points expire?

        • Just noticed that one can purchase a $100 Coles giftcard with 20,000 FB so this offer is strictly preferred.

    • Depends how you do the maths:

      2000FB Points = 870 Velocity Points
      So 20,000FB Points = 8700 Velocity Points

Generally speaking if you use Velocity points on Virgin Australia flights a point is worth around 0.02c. So ~$174 worth of Velocity Points.

  • Thanks

    I feel so rejected (again)😢

Coles won't even allow me the basic annual fee free MasterCard with the minimum $1000 limit. Applied in 2015 & now. Haven't had that problem with banks.

(Decided not to work in years, have traveled many years for 9 months/yr overseas enjoying life, have enough in investments & keep costs very low (like $13/n hotel room in Osaka Japan last year). Have CC with $16k limit I rarely use, pay no fees & pay full balance at end of each bill cycle. Yes, life is tough🍰)

I meet acceptance guidelines at start of application (high enough income etc), but…

We're sorry, but based on the information you've provided, we're unable to offer you a Coles MasterCard, as your application doesn't fall within our current acceptance guidelines.
You're welcome to reapply in the future, if your financial situation changes.

As with most finance services businesses, its a bit hard to find those full acceptance guidelines.

They wouldn't have made any money from me - I only miss the $100 worth of points😯

    • Cool story 👍

    • I know them feels bro..25k minimum income a year for signup approval. So most Centrelink users are out.

    • Any luck with $0 American Express? - another Ozbargain favorite

      • I dream of a (fee free) Amex card - haven't had one for a few years. Cancelled due to the fees after first year. All those missed offers on OzBargain😢

        • +5

You can get an American Express low rate, Essential, Qantas Discovery or Velocity Escape card. All have no annual fee, the Essential gets Membership Rewards points for the Gateway program, the Qantas gets QFF points and the Velocit card gets Velocity Points.

          @douglasac10:
Thanks - but as I couldn't meet the acceptance guidelines for the basic Coles MasterCard (above), I won't qualify for any Amex I've checked😢

Minimum income requirements for those cards are $40K, $40K, $35K, $40K.
eg I have a personal or household gross (pre-tax) annual income of $35,000 or more

That's the trouble with having $ & deciding not to work but enjoy overseas travel for many years - how I suffer😯

    • Something funny's going on, tried to apply for my wife last week got approved for $10,000. However, there was no record of the application, I should have saved the application number and confirmation approval.

Just tried to apply again, firefox kept saying error on the final submit. In chrome, the application was denied with the exact same message as you but nothing about financial situation. The strange thing was that neither application asked for ID verification like the first time. She's full time, never had a gap in her employment and never been denied any credit applications and never had any debt.

      • Strange.

Application asked if I wanted to verify my ID first with credit rating agency. Or I could skip that & verify later.

Last application got email saying credit rating agency could not verify my ID, so skipped this time.

I requested my file for free as my application had been rejected. Never had a loan or owed on my credit cards - so they have almost nothing in file.

  • Is there annual fee?

    • Probably applies to all of them. One of the aforementioned cards that offers the waiver of foreign transaction fees and buyer protection is $89. Other one has no annual fee but less 'perks'.

    • I got the $89 one (that's the most expensive). For my spending habits, the extra flybuys points cover it.

Sure, there are other cards that may have a better points to dollar ratio, but I'm not doc much chasing that, and am already ingrained in the flybuys system (plus free grocery delivery over $100 spend 😀)

      • You have to spend $12,000/year just to break even with the free card. The only other benefit is no international transaction fees.

        • Spend about $2-2.5k a month, so no probs. It's nice getting all the flybuys dollars flying in.

last time i applied ang get one. when i read the t&c i gave up and destroyed the card. i cannot remember exactly what it was but it suck…

  • Thanks Mate. Applied for the same.

  • has anyone got the 'your new mastercard is on the way to you' email? I applied for the 20,000 bonus flybuy points, but in that email I received it said that I would get the $100 off a Coles shop after using it. I dont bulk shop so I rarely spend over $40 a shop and would rather the points…

    • I also applied and used promo10 code. Got my card 2 weeks ago, made a purchase a week ago. Didn't see flybuys points or $100 offer.

      Did you receive your points?

Is there expiry date for flybuys points?

      Thanks

  • Thank you OP. I usually bin those credit card offers in my emails. Without your post I wouldnt have known about this deal. 20000 points, no annual fee - a no brainer

  • Yeah mine worked and the 20000 points are sitting in my flybuys account :)

    • Hi, I applied and used promo10 code. Got my card 2 weeks ago so I have to make a purchase first for whatever amount and the flybuys points will be given later?

Is there expiry date for flybuys points?

      Thanks

  • Got the $100 email.. says I have till may to use it.

    • how much did you have to spend to get the $100 off

      • Have to :100.05
        But end up doing 160
        Damn them

  • I used the promo code when applying for this card. Received this card today but no mention of the the promo's in the pack they sent out with the credit card. Is this the way everyone else has received it?

  • Got a call today from an application on Sunday night. Sounded a bit like an interrogation. A really stern voice on the other end asking about my job and how long ago I got my license (Assume they couldn't find it in their checks, which is strange, because two other banks used it to ID me).

Also I told them I did not have a work number (which I actually do not, since I spend the whole day programming and have no need for a phone). Then that was it. Just a very awkward call, and I assume application would be rejected given the tone I got. They probably err on the side of rejecting applications when it looks dodgy (no work number) and there is no credit history.

But I actually have tons of savings ( > $100 000 ) and I am only applying to get interest free period and to get the free shop.

  • Is there a minimum spend on the first shop to get the $100 free on next shop??
