"Open a Platinum Transaction Account and automatically get upgraded to the Platinum Transaction Account" Seems legit

    • Very!

  • How can I make my own referer link/code?

  • Is it possible to tell if you applied based on a referral or not? I'm pretty sure I did but I can't find a way to check lol.

    • Do you remember which link you clicked? Maybe check browser history? Otherwise no real way

  • +1

Btw spread the referral luv around don't go for the same ones haha

    • +1

      It's my pleasure! ;-)

      • Hope you got the $40 from me champ :)

  • Does this do a credit check also the $250 spent does $250 withdrawal from ATM qualify in the spent as i generally dont make payments using debit card ?

    • +1

Does this do a credit check

No. But be mindful that the more you share your information around, the more likely you are prone to be a victim of fraud or identity theft.

Only last year, someone managed to steal a credit card statement from my mail box and withdraw $500 from my bank account.Took 2 months for Westpac to credit the money back. Another friend of mine was a victim of fraud when someone stole a bunch of letters which had his bank details/credit card statements and the thief managed to apply for a credit card on his name and spend over 8 grand on it.

      • Wow that's scary. Didn't know it was that easy.

        • +4

It actually is. There is a group of thieves on my street that go through mailboxes overnight and steal bank statements.

After my fraud incident (as above), I got some bank envelopes from my mates that work at westpac, ANZ, and suncorp. I then put blank papers inside the envelopes and sealed them to make them look real, placed them in my letter box with some other Fake letters in normal envelopes and random addresses. 2 nights later, bank envelopes are gone, other letters still there. Tried again a few days later and same thing happened.

Then they worked out i was on to them and haven't touched my mailbox since.

I now only have 2 bank accounts, electronic statements to my email, and phone banking disabled on both.
Believe me, Its not worth the hassle when you get in a fraud situation.

        • @easternculture:

Geez usually opt for paperless myself but the name, address and the account numbers are the only info included in those statements right. How is it that easy to open accounts and take money out using just those details is what I'm wondering. Normally DOB and drivers license/passport etc are a bare minimum right. Scary stuff.

        • @easternculture:

Any way cheers for the advice mate. Real eye opener.

        • +2

          @dins:

data mining, internet, facebook, twitter, dark web, deep web etc

I've heard of hacks/scripts that use the hotmail server to get very personal details of people

        • @easternculture: That's crazy I had no idea there would be people rummaging through letterboxes. Why would anyone leave mail overnight in letterbox though, doesn't everyone collect it before dark? Also getting a lockable letterbox should prevent this. And now for a pro tip - put a sensor on your letterbox so you know when postie puts mail in & also get an alert when some weirdo is trying to open letterbox!

        • @leTintin: Lots of possible reasons. Some people have to travel interstate for work. Some people might get home too knackered to check the mailbox but do it the next day. And even if you check the mailbox once a day, what's stopping somebody going through it while you are at work? Sensors are fine, but what if there's nobody at home to hear it go off? A locked mailbox is the least one can do.

Years ago I complained to Virgin Credit Cards (when they had a CC offering) that their statements, and even their offer letters had too much identifying information. They waved off my concern. Fortunately these days all statements are fetched by oneself from the service websites.

        • @greenpossum:

          Locked mailboxes don't stop criminals
we still had mail stolen in our apartment block, takes about 30 seconds with a screwdriver when we watched cctv
A PO Box is your ULTIMATE bet for safe mail keeping

  • OP should receive $40 as I just joined using his link

  • I joined using MikeD's referral link

  • Regarding the 50c reward for the first 200 cash out transactions of $100 or more each year in retail stores,
is there a way to track how many $100 withdrawals you have made in a year?

  • Could anyone tell me how to get my referral link? I have already used one of the referral link to open an accunt and now I want to post mine, so that someone can use my link.

    • I don't think you can get one yet. It appears that the referral links were given out to those who did beta testing in December.

  • Does the $250 min spend have to come from the Platinum Transaction Acct or the Savings Acct? I noticed that they open 2 separate accounts for you following application

    • I have yet to use this account, but if it works similar to some other banks (e.g NAB, ING), payments to external parties generally have to be initiated from the transaction account.

    • +2

Have tested and can confirm the savings account can be used to directly pay external parties. Unlike NAB/ING, where funds must be transfered to the transaction account first.

Anyhow, back to your initial question. Since the signup condition states:

Spend more than $250 in the first 30 days using your new debit card

and the debit card is associated with the transaction account, so the $250 has to come from the transaction account.

  • Used zaptech-au for my signup.

  • Where a non-rediATM ATM operator in Australia charges you a fee for a withdrawal or balance enquiry made with your debit MasterCard, we will rebate that fee to your account. When you withdraw $100 or more in a single transaction at a point-of-sale (e.g. EFTPOS) terminal in Australia using your debit MasterCard, we will credit $0.50 to your account for the first 200 eligible withdrawals in a given financial year.

if I open account on 27.01.2017 will they give me credit $0.50 to my account for the first 200 eligible withdrawals from 01.07.2016 to 30.06.2017?

    • +2

      Yes, each financial year

  • thanks for reply.
one more question. if I use the debit MasterCardto to withdrawn $100 or more,is there any transaction fee?

    • no fee

  • Tip for anybody having problems getting the application form from a referral link: Chrome didn't work for me (it complained about too many redirections), Firefox did.

  • is $250 money transferred to another bank account considered. I never use debit card hence not sure what i would use it for ?

Just applied. All the best @McZ Mabel, enjoy the $40 from me :) Does anyone how can I get the referral link after applied one online? Thanks.

    • +2

The referral link comes from users who took part in brain sourcing program 2 months ago.

If you need your friends to get on it to get free money get them to click on one of the referral links in wiki

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/macquarie_referrals

      Another method…

You must go into your time machine to 10//10/2016 then sign up to the brain sourcing bank account - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269799
Once that is done and do the steps involved. wait 2 months or take your time machine to 25/01/2017 and find your referral link in your email.
Since you are at it might as well travel back in time to 1995 and buy up all the Sydney house properties!! :)

      • haha thanks for your reply, Turd. I like the time machine part you mentioned.

      • I might ask my Mickey to apply one of these accounts but somehow he likes some sort of incentives :P I might as well ask my Pluto if he is interested and my other friends like Donald duck, Daisy duck, Goofy etc :D

      • @ Turd $40 coming ur way… for answering many questions above

        • Thank you

    • +1

Thank you Minnie! Much appreciated. I hope it will be very soon that Macquarie issues another round of referral links to new customers like yourself who have been referred by the brainsourcing batch. Assuming they followed ING's strategy….so stay tuned and meanwhile, explore and enjoy what the new Account offers you, and start making a list what you're gonna spend $250 in the first month on your debit card or just buy a gift card like others have suggested. ;)

      • Thanks haha you sound like one of their employees or an affiliates of Macquarie….

I might ask my Mickey to apply one of these accounts but somehow he likes some sort of incentives :P I might as well ask my Pluto if he is interested and my other friends like Donald duck, Daisy duck, Goofy etc :D

        • Haha I am def not affiliated, otherwise I wouldn't have been given one of these referral links right?

Mickey will sure get his incentive by signing up using a referral link here but I guess if he and other members of the Disney family can wait till you get your own link down the track (hopefully soon), then you may be able to maximise the incentives in the family.;D

But if waiting is no fun, then I encourage them to share the love with your favourite fellow Ozbargainers here…or go, ee nee mee nee mi ni mo… lol

Thanks once again Minnie sharing your incentive with me. All the best! :)

Mods might be useful for the wiki to put the two people who have long links to use http://goo.gl to make it shorter..

    Bargain4U - https://goo.gl/ blah blah
    neilpatrickharris - https://goo.gl/ blah bvlah

Gives an unfair advantage for being the longer link. IMO. :)

  • Macquarie Bank - What a Poxy web site. I will be grabbing my $40 and running ASAP.
Note the OP has stated "Spend $250 or more" and then stated "Spend more than $250"
The website says "More Than $250".
I would suggest that people should go for "More Than" to be sure.

    • +1

The t&c's say "Make $250 or more of purchases using their new Macquarie Platinum debit MasterCard within 30 days of opening their account."

I would follow the t&c instead of the actual marketing jumbo.

No one reads or obeys t&c's these days.

      • From the linked website
Quote "Spend more than $250 in the first 30 days using your new debit card."
For the sake of spending $1 extra, I am going to be cautious.

        • I know, but read at the bottom.. the Fine Print. Will say "Make $250 or more of purchases using their new Macquarie Platinum debit MasterCard within 30 days of opening their account."

But yes $251 for the sake of not wanting to deal with fine print.

  • Hi, Id like to know does is will come any SERVICE FEE if I didnt deposit 4000/month?
    Thanks :)

    • Just apply one, Jonathan gonna get $40!

    • No, if you sign up using the referral links it will say: "Open a Platinum Transaction Account before 31 March using the button below. As part of this offer you'll be automatically upgraded to the Platinum Transaction Account, without the need to deposit $4,000 per month. "

The Platinum account doesnt actually have the fee or requiring $4k deposit. But to get $40 you need to use the referral links.

      Referral links - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/macquarie_referrals

      • Oh…I just find out I use another link.
Not the one you type as:open….
Im using You've been referred by Jonathan etc.

        OPEN ACCOUNT

Will I still get free upgrade?

        • Yes you will get the free upgrade and $40.

        • @Turd:
          Great, thank you so much!

  • Just signed up !

    Thanks op

Does the $250 have to be in store to get the $40 as I'm planning to pay my water rates with the card details on the Sydney Water website.

    • +1

Paying to Syd Water is ok.

      Doesnt have to be instore.

      • Thanks

      • Can it be spent on overseas transactions?

        • +1

          Yes

        • @Turd:

Online transfer (Pay to anyone) does count towards that $250, is that correct? If paying to Sydney water is okay too…..

        • +3

          @Minnie:

Hi Minnie, I believe the $250 spending has to be on your debit card ie. you would have had to using the 16 digit MasterCard number to qualify. Therefore, online EFT (pay anyone) using bsb and account numbers of the payee doesn't count.

When paying Sydney Water, choose to pay by "Credit Card" option but use your debit card details.

        • @Minnie: no bank transfer won't work, use the card at Coles or such or pay bills online

        • @Minnie: I prepaid my electricity, even though I don't have a bill.

        • @Turd: Does it have to be a credit transaction or is pressing savings ok?

        • @JIMB0: same thing, since it isn't a credit card, pressing cr or sav won't matter as money needs to be in account before u can use it.

        • @Mcz: @Turd Used card to pay at two places via EFTPOS - at Woolworths and a restaurant. Do these payments count or not since card was used by swiping and not using 16 digits?

        • @emperor: I believe that it will be fine, but to confirm send Macquarie an email

        • @emperor:

Actually the 'use of card' definition going by Macquarie's debit card conditions of use is quite wide and it covers EFTPOS too. So I think you should be ok there. It is possible but unlikely that they have some other definitions for the use of card in this campaign without disclosing them. They could (because they earn more if we choose CR option) but don't think they would ( they lose more by having disappointed new customers) IMO.

Personally, to avoid any doubts I would just PayPass enough transactions to make up the $250 worth of purchases or select CR option for the extra zero liability cover offered by MasterCard.

  • Just got my card… anyone having trouble trying to add to android pay? I keep getting an error unable to verify even though I have money in the account

    • Same error as well.

      • +2

I called em up and the say quite a few people have been having this error. They are working on it and hopefully are going to able to tell me something by the weekend

        • Added my card to AndroidPay fine last night

        • @aussiedogga: Tried again and got it to work, deleted the previous attempt (card in android pay) and added it again and it went through but this time with a sms code rather then trying to do it via a in app prompt

  • Received the debit card today.
Also got a missed call from them and an email telling me to call them back.
Anyone else got a phone call or know what it could be about?

  • Great phone support! NOT…first call: total fail, their call centre transferred me to NRMA insurance on my second call, to Woolworths on my third call & after my patience ran out on the 4th call I finally got put through to a local staff member who answered my query in about 30 seconds.

    • What was the question?

      • +1

no idea, but the answer was 42…

Knowing what the question is will take much more work though…

      • A general, simple, enquiry. Nrma Insurance and Woolworths didn't have the answers though. SBOB you sound like one of their call centre staff.

        • SBOB you sound like one of their call centre staff.

maybe, but they sound like they don't know where their towel is…

  • Just received my card today but unable to receive SMS secure code to activate my card. Checked mobile number was correct. Does anyone experience same problem?

    • call them up and get them to activate over the phone. they said they were currently experiencing problems with SMS verification

    • Maybe it has something to do with the Telstra outage?

      • That's what I was told. Weird as my partner on Telstra received them but myself also on Telstra didnt'.

    • Further to what tobi said; I called them to activate the card. However I still need to set a PIN and that can only be done by received SMS codes.

  • Does anyone know if Opal top-ups count for the 250$ spend?

    • +1

Yes, because it is through the MasterCard debit network

  • Anyone know what to select on the eftpos machine. I tried Savings and also Debit Madtercard and it was declined both times.

    • Did you have money in the card / account?

      • I have $250 but it's in the Savings Account. Does it need to go in the Platinum Transaction account?

        • +1

          wrong account lol
Needs to be in the Platinum Account

        • @shawncro 222: Damn. Oh well, I spend the $250 on next weeks shopping.
