      You mean watching porns?

        no just lots of tabs

        • +37

          of porn?

        • @Munki: and ozbargain too!

      • +6

        Permanent incognito mode.

    • +4

is sufficient but beware of the coil whine on these. if you're lucky you won't have them..

      • The 15 inch kabylake doesnt suffer from coil whine ?

      • Would have jumped on this but the issue seems to effect nearly all of them.

        • +20

that's good. as long as it doesn't affect them.

      • Yeah what's up with the coil-whine and is can i swap if i get coil-whine.

      • +3

i bought a 13 inch dell xps off the last ebay deal. have used for approx 1.5 weeks now - no coil whine, used all day every day - even now after a full day of ontime, no coil whine and overly silent. battery life is getting me a full day at work with chrome browsing, outlook and other software on constantly.

Maybe i just got lucky. keep in mind delivery took some time given they are built to order. got custom listing sorted with windows 10 pro for $100 more.

Keep in mind you will need to purchase a TYPE C to HDMI adapter or the cheoetech direct cable to extend display to monitor if this is your intention. :)

All in all, very solid laptop, especially for work.

        • Or the Dell type C dock.

  • +1

Wish I didn't have a mid 2014 macbook pro retina :( can't justify buying this.

  • That coil whine tho … its fine if i was deff -.-

  • Same model is on the outlet for $1,699 - great deal!

  • office is 1 yr sub?

  • Can you purchase additional warranty via their Ebay store?

    • Yes you can

  • I'm a little rusty on pc components, but isn't this inspiron better?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/391695773429

Granted, this is 15", but the specs look better to me… Plus it has a dedicated video card.

    $1519.20 after 20% off.

    • +4

XPS is their premium range, with a thin bezel screen and good build quality. Inspiron is the slightly lower quality consumer range. Both laptops are good for the price, depends what your needs are

    • +2

It's an ultrabook - one of the main points is it's weight and thinness.

It's only 1.2kg vs 2.5-2.7kg for the Inspiron. And 9-15 mm vs 25.3mm.

      • Ah fair enough. Didn't realise the XPS range are now ultrabooks. I guess if you want portability, it'll be hard to beat.

        • The Inspiron you linked is a dedicated gaming laptop, and the build quality on them is better than the previous Inspirons. The specs are a lot better but the little XPS is a lot smaller and lighter, looks better, and build quality is still a bit better

        • @Wampus: I've noticed they got rid of the Studio range, so I suppose the Inspirons are meant to fill that market now? I think the XPS would be good if I was to replace my old Studio.

  • Anyone know the brand of the SSD and whether it's replaceable?

Is the Office a permanent license or temporary?

    • It is a Samsung, but all you need to know is that the form factor is "M.2" Any brand would work. And yes it is swap able.

      • +2

Actually on the Dell forums people are discussing a known bug with one symptom being a replaced ssd won't work. Do your research if you intend to swap the ssd.

    • +1

      It's not.

      Alienware is Dell's gaming range.

This is about the same price as Surface Pro 4 i5 6300u/8GB/256GB right now at JB.

      • I would get this ultra book over a surface pro. A very good deal.

    • You can get a 15 with a 1050 in it but as lostn said, Alienware is their gaming brand since they took it over, however XPS used to be the Dell gaming brand

  • Bought this last Dell ebay sale a few weeks back (but with a 128GB instead of 256GB SSD). Really solid machine, and I have no idea what a coil whine is, but this thing runs nice and quietly. Paid $1350 for it, plus another $150 for a Win 10 Pro upgrade, so for $1500 it's a pretty nice machine- only issue will be the 8GB soldered RAM in a couple of years.

    • Nice! Did you get also get the Thunderbolt dock so you can hook up external monitors and stuff?

      • No, didn't get a dock - but you did remind me of something else I did have to buy - the all-in-one dongle, about $100 or $150 which goes from USB 3 to hdmi, vga, ethernet and USB. Required as there is no onboard video out (displayport, hdmi etc.).

Since buying the dongle, I've since bought an el cheapo $13 adapter from ebay which goes from thunderbolt to HDMI 2.0 (4k support - I read some reddit threads saying that the model I have (9360) supports 4k), so will try that when I get it.

    • how is the eBay process like? from the time of order, how long does it take before you get your tax invoice to delivery?

      • It was a little longer than I expected - I got the tax invoice about a week after purchase, and took delivery about two weeks after that. From memory, they estimated about 4 weeks for delivery from purchase (I'm in Perth) and it arrived at about the 3 week mark.

Interestingly, the amount on the invoice (Australian invoice, ABN included) was for the full amount (pre-ebay code discount). So for me, the invoice said $1699 instead of the $~1350 that I paid.

        • Thanks for sharing your first hand experience with us. :)
Did the invoice mention GST separately?

        • +1

@aurthohin: Yes, the invoice has the GST listed separately - standard tax invoice that you would get from any retailer (that pays GST) in Australia.

        • -1

I bought this too, but sold the unit unopened for $1600 thanks to the invoice !

  • i have a xps 13 from 2015.
how does the latest xps 13 compare with the new hp spectre x360?

    • ThiThiss. Tossing between the two laptops.

    • Linustechtips on YouTube has a review of the latest XPS 13 and compares it to the x360 which he has also reviewed.

Note that the XPS 13 he reviews has a 360 degree flip around hinge, which the model in this deal doesn't have. I am not sure if the XPS he reviewed is a later model, or just a different model to this one.

      • Yep. I've had a look.

I just can't make upm mind. it really comes down to if the tablet mode of the x360 is worth it.

The screen and form factor of the xps is just so appealing.

        • I know, it's just such a pretty thing. It's really nice in person too, not just the pictures. Even though I've got no justifiable use for a laptop currently I still get really tempted haha.

        • +1

          @Alzori:

          Bought the x360 :)

  • -5

Still using ddr3? This must be more than a year old stock and then put in a latest gen CPU to make it look good. Hard to say it's a good buy because it supposed much cheaper for previous technology.

  • +1

These are so awesome, but need a deal on last year's XPS 15 in the i7 4K flavour. Been holding out on buying second hand, hoping something would come around :P

  • This is a fantastic deal for a solid machine. Got two at home.I dont know about any coil whine.

  • how this compared to E460 as the specs are similar? But at $888 or 710 for lucky ebayers?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/280904

  • Bought an i7 model confirmed no coil whine unlike my previous purchase or 9350 that I had to return due to heavy coil whine.

So far the best windows machine I have ever owned.

Usually dell will refund with no issues if coil whine is discovered

  • how this compare to the 30% cheaper lenovo?

    • which Lenovo are you looking at thats 30% cheaper?
I don't really see anything on their website thats a Kabylake and 1.2kg for that price range.

      • something like this;

        Lenovo Ideapad 710S $1199 Delivered (i7-6500U, 13.3" FHD, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1.1kg)

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290126

        • That Thinkpad isn't comparable to this model. Compare this model to the T series.

        • That Levovo is 1 gen cpu behind, although there's not much difference between Skylake and Kabylake but it's still 1 gen behind. Only thing i can say is Lenovo support is better than Dell. Their phone support is still in Australia though that's not saying Dell's support is bad either.

  • Got one a few weeks ago. Was also concerned about coil whine, but so far so good. It's been silent.

  • 2 to 3 weeks for shipping?
    No express shipping option..
Damn, I'm heading overseas in 2.5 weeks so can't buy one and claim the TRS

  • Like DirtyBooots - also bought the 128GB one a couple of weeks ago.
Fantastic machine, fast, works well - no idea what this coil whine is but I have not issues. Battery life v good.

Takes 2-3 weeks for delivery - comes from Malaysia or somewhere - but arrived safely.

Recommend this. Windows 10 is also surprisingly good. (if you google best laptop, the Dell XPS 13 regularly comes up)

I would have bought this 256 if I knew it was going on sale!!

    • Hey mate what dock did you buy to connect this to HDMI monitor

  • +1

What do you think about the Thinkpad Yoga 460?

    Intel Core i7-6600U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz), 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, anti-glare, 10-point Multi-Touch,8.0GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

Its going for $1,439 too :)

    http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/deals/current-offers/laptops-fo…

Do you think the Thinkpad offers more value?

  • Sorry if it's a dumb question but can you get the extra $50 Cash Rewards (as posted somewhere else on OB) for this model?
    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/ebay-australia

And if so, how do you get it?

I bought the i7 model last week from JB for $2139 but it has a slight coil whine. I'm worried it will get worse over time and am going to try and return it. If successful I'll get this i5 instead.

BTW - are they touch screen? It's unclear in the eBay page.

    • The model here is 1080 FHD, it is NON touch screen. The QHD+ is touch screen & costs alot more.

  • What usb-c (or thunderbolt) adapters are people buying with this to hook up their HDMI?

    • +2

      Kensington SD1500 USB-C™ Mobile Dock

      • Cheers mate

  • Been eyeing this for a long time and now finally pulled the trigger! However, for all those who bought and used cashrewards, did you receive an immediate/timely notification of the sale being tracked? Haven't received mine yet (they're normally pretty quick with those emails), so wondering if I stuffed up this time or if its something on their end…

    • +1

I'm in the same situation, still haven't received a notification from cashrewards (I purchased on the 7/2/17)

      • Thanks for the reply mate, good to know. Hopefully things are just a bit slow on their end atm. Made some other purchases on Tues as well, and still yet to receive those so started wondering…

        • • Payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn rewards.

  • So I returned the XPS 13 i7 with the slight Coil Whine noise and got my money back.

Logged on to my ebay account in order to buy…

    AND IT'S OUT OF STOCK!!!

    I MISSED OUT!!!

    bummer :-(

    • Looks like it's back in stock mate

      • Thanks heaps!

        Ordered one.

  • Can they be found cheaper than this on the DFO?

  • My XPS 13 that was ordered on the 12th is due to be delivered tomorrow.
