Norwegian Star 19 Night Akl-Sin 18/2/17 $1888 Pp Twin or SOLO Cabin @ Crushing.com.au

50

19 night cruise, if you choose inside gyarabtee, you pay $1888 per person or $1888 for one traveller in a cabin by themselves. 0% single supplement is a rarity in Australia. I've che Jed other agencies and don't get the same price. This agency frequently has better deals for solo cruisers than others.

This ship has been rated 4 stars by cruise critic

Apologies for the spelling errors. I can not read my phone screen very well.

  • I just want to go Bali (or Komodo) to Darwin. Is it possible? How much would it be? Thanks.

No. Whenever ships have cabins left only a couple of weeks out, they discount them a lot. Some revenue is better than none - plus they hope to get onboard sales.

And as that issue only surfaced very recently, it didn't cause there to be a number of cabins left for sale. Plus if you cancelled then you wouldn't get a refund, so again not a cause.

    • Possibly. The only cruise port that is decent if the three missed is bay of islands. NCL tends to discount solo cabins and that price isn't extraordinary fir a twin. Princess was offering a cruise from South America to Sydney fir about $50 pp ts pd . I'd like to try ncl, but now that I'm diamond (nearly diamond plus) on rci, it'll be hard to go elsewhere as the perks are that good. Only way to go is up at this point.

      • How many cruises / length of cruise do you take to gain that status & what are the perks?

        • I think diamond was 95 points and diamond plus 175.

Points are generally one per night. You get more if you stay in a suite or pay a single supllement.

You get 3.5 hours of drinks per night. Access to the concierge and/or diamond lounge where they will get your tender tickets and show tickets where applicable. For ice shows and some other shows, you sometimes have to wait in a queue to get tickets. The concierge will sort things out for you, make restaurant bookings and cancellations. Priority boarding. Free gifts. Free ship tours of different types. Chefs choice desserts or canapés sent to your room. Bathrobes. Special events. Free photos. Free internet (one day per voyage). You get refunds for stuff you wouldn't otherwise get refunds for, sometimes more than you paid and it's not the cruise lines fault. Really nice coffee in the lounges. You can email the concierge and they will take care of things prior to boarding like if you want a non standard configuration of balcony furniture. Bottles of water and juice in your room. Priority seating areas at some shows. As you move up to about 340 points you get free cruises and better tours and can dine with the captain or dome other officer, not that dining with the officers interest me. They will also sort all sorts of problems out for you. A lady I met broke her foot in port and asked for a wheelchair to use on board. The front desk took the request and did nothing. She came limping up to the diamond lounge to find me and when I found out, I asked the concierge to get her to a wheelchair and we had one in 15 minutes. You get these services and freebies regardless of your cabin class. Did I mention 3.5 hours of drinks? 😀

        • @voteoften:

Thanks for the very detailed response! I've never been on a cruise but the other half wants to do one out of LA later this year.

        • @Sir Casm:

Cruises are excellent value for all you get. I wouldn't go on another P&O Australia cruise again however. Just to be clear, those benefits are for diamond and diamond plus members.

        • @voteoften:

No, I wouldn't sail P&O either, trying to decide on an itinerary and cruise line are difficult, there's a lot of choice, especially for the USA.

  • Ahh sounded good for a moment. Although I have flown to New Zealand and Japan in the past, I have a real problem with flying lately (causes panic attacks etc) so alot of my friends suggest going on a cruise, but I can't find a good one that still doesn't require me to fly either to the departure port or from the destination port (or both in this case!).. Sad :(

    • Thus deal isn't fir you. The only ones who regularly sail out of Melbourne are P&O, but you could take ground transport to Sydney where there are a lot of rt cruises. If you go to online cruise agencies you can filter by port on the radiance, I met a man who lived in Adelaide. He took the train to Darwin to visit family and then the radiance around the western side of Australia back to Adelaide. That was the Ghan and he was doing two half cruises solo so it would have been very expensive.

  • Thanks for posting. Does this include food and access to all shows/amenities?

    • +1

Yes, it would, except specialty restaurants. And there could be some things there are charges for, specialty coffees, fresh juices, arcade games, certain classes and wine tastings, bingo, spa, etc. it would include the basics at a minimum. Most entertainment, three meals a day at the a la carte restaurant and/or buffet. Shows would be included, so should things like trivia, deck games, certain competitions. Check the cruise lines website.

    Awesome thanks OP
I've always wanted to go to Norwegia

    • Yep, things went from bad to worse!

    • It's good they are giving a full refund and 50% off next cruise. That's great customer service

      • Yeah that is very good if them. These things happen. Not a lot, but they do happen. It's good they aren't relying on their T&Cs.

  • sorry but this is not the cheapest around. I have never found cruising.com.au or the travel agents that use it to be the cheapest.
This exact same cruise is currently $1535 on both expedia.com.au and with the cruise line themselves ncl.com.au.
Add to that, the cruising.com.au website is showing the old itinerary. The itineray for this cruise has changed due to the above noted azipod issues and cruising.com.au is still showing the original itinerary

    • Nothing to be sorry about. It looks like they've made both a price and itinerary adjustment due to the bad publicity. They've been very generous giving both a full refund and a 50% off a future cruise. That sort of proactive action me even happier they have decided to come to this part if the world. Hopefully we'll have some excess capacity resulting in lower prices, higher standards or both as a result.

    • Good grief, crying. They have all services and are getting a full refund. It's not like some ships where the toilets fail, there's no power (darkness) and sewage in the hallways. People like that just shouldn't travel.

      • I agree that crying and getting hysterical is kind of an overreaction when they aren't actually in any danger. This is by no means a tragedy but it's still a shitty situation, even with a refund, they aren't getting the holiday they planned on and most people have limited leave/time off work and need to co-ordinate with travel companions, so this could be their only opportunity for a holiday this year. If by "all services", you mean they have food and access to toilets, electricity etc then yes, fine, but I doubt they are exactly having a lot of fun onboard right now, floating off the Victorian coast.

Plus the main point is that this seems to be at least the second major incident with these azipod thingys, judging by the other article that was posted earlier, so that to me indicates that either the ship or the cruise line as a whole are not very reliable and so not really worth taking a risk on booking.

It's not like the oassengerswoukd be twiddling their thumbs. They would have all sorts of activities going on, like any other sea day. P&O has crappy sea days, but RCI and presumably NCL have great sea days. The thing is that no one is in danger, everyone is being fed watered and entertained. They just need to be towed 20 km or so. Yes if you had your heart set in going to one of those ports it would be unfortunate, but ports get swapped and canceled frequently. On a Xmas cruise, one port in New Zealand was changed for some reason or another and apparently there were a few people disappointed because it was where they filmed some movie, but this is a risk, just like a delayed flight is a risk. I just think these people need to stop worrying about their safety and stop being a drain in the other people on board. Accept that they are not paying for the cruise and that they won't be seeing those ports on this cruise. It truly sounds like NCL has brought American style customer service to Australia. Better prices, better amenities and higher standards. Bring the competition on.
