The 69 dollar 500GB Iomega drive isn't that bad that either. THat's a sweet price. OP should put that in the description or title so that another post isn't created.

    Good find!

    • You forgot to mention that it's the portable 2.5" usb powered model.

      Agreed, both very good deals.

    • Ah! Sorry I downvoted you when I meant to upvote. :(

Is Iomega a decent brand? I don't know the first thing about these hi-tech hard drive whatsits.

      • It's an ok brand. Nothing wrong with it. 69 bucks is a pretty sweet deal.

  • Someone surely will try price-matching this at OW, just like the 500GB Seagate deal previously (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/26435).

    • I will for sure, no point traveling all the way into the city when OW is just 5 minutes away

I'm in Brisbane =P (catch a plane to buy this haha).

  • Does anyone know the model of this?
Is it possible to swap in another drive?
    Thanks in advance =)

  • Resist the temptation….resist the temptation…resist………uh oh.

  • no one buy it yet, so those who don't have an mln in their state can go to officeworks tomorrow and buy it :)

    • does officeworks selling ext HDD tomorrow? wat r the price?

  • Anyone know what the specs are? I would have perferred the Aldi's 1TB External Hard Drive for $79. It costed $1 more than this offer, but came with esata. If only Aldi's were not sold out like 5 mins after opening aus wide on Thurs! sigh.

  • That picture looks a lot like the 2.5" Freeagent Go model.
    See here -

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…

    Must be the wrong photo?

Their 3.5" is either the plastic body one or this style

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…

  • Picture must be wrong - it's the 2.5'' Freeagent Go.

  • Does this powering from DC connect from the PC or it need a AC powering from wall?

    • +2

It will require AC power from power point, it is a 3.5" drive. I think it's just the picture that is wrong. There's no way MLN are selling a Seagte 1TB 2.5" drive for $79, that's like 3 times less than normal price.

      • i took this from an ebay auction

        Interface: USB 2.0

Agree with Josh81 - it's definitely the wrong photo…should be this one:

    http://www.externalharddrives.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009…

  • Just rang MLN and they said IT IS DC POWERED. The guy didn't think the photo was incorrect. Still very cheap. 6 years ago i bought a Maxtor 250 Gig for $550 and its a brick and a half.

    • Did you ask whether it's 2.5" or 3.5"

      Thats the $64 question here.
If it's 2.5" = bargain of the year!

      • if it's DC powered then it is 3.5"

        • That would be AC powered? No?
USB ports put out 5v DC.
Actually it's kinda a moot point because the adapter converts 240vAC to 12DC so it's all in how you look at it

          • +1

@King Tightarse: AC to DC adapter

point is.. if it requires external power then it's 3.5"

I wonder if the "mistake" on the catalogue was deliberate… Description says 3.5", but picture is for a 2.5" model. If one orders this, and then try to argue that they have sent the wrong unit (assume they sent the 3.5" one), then would one be able to win the argument that they did not get the product as advertised?

    • I think it's a relatively easy mistake to make considering the 3.5" and 2.5" models look almost identical.

      http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/external/expansion…

      • I think they look pretty different other than the colour being the same…
The one in the catalog has a silver badge on the top and distinctive arch/dot shapes over the base.

The other is in a plain plastic enclosure - pretty different shape.

I just tried to order this 2 x drive and I was told that this is an in-store promotion only…
This is after I went through their really basic online service which doesn't transact.
When I finally called I got the bumsteer and these guys are only in Melbourne :(

    • so is this a bargain ??

    • Are you having a laff? Is he having a laff?

  • +1

Just rang the store in Heidelberg, no stock and no idea when it's coming.

"The Catalogue just came out and stock will be coming in 'dribs and drabs', just keep checking in"

I guess this is a form of Bait and Switch, oh we don't have that stock … but try this one instead.

  • Just got a price match at OW Brisbane City store (QLD). $74.10. Took a printout of the catalogue but the guy barely looked. I think it depends who you get at the register, but I've had an awesome run with this OW, they even match MSY. Go to a busy store at lunchtime, that's my tip…

  • +1

Just got price matched at OW Melbourne CBD 2!! $74.10.
But was told "1 per customer"
"Go to a busy store at lunchtime" that's true….. :p

  • Just for your information, I called up the MLN store in Richmond to ask about the product and he told me it's a 3.5" drive, that is, with an AC adapter. But if you're lucky enough you can fool OW, I might actually try to, too bad the OW near my place never has anything in stock.

P.s for the above buyers from OW, could you please state which one you got priced matched on, 2.5" or 3.5"?

    • +2

Good point. I got the 3.5" (Seagate Expansion, AC power etc). OW Brisbane didn't have the 1TB 2.5" in stock or I might have pushed my luck. Then again maybe not; $108->$74 feels like a bargain, $250->$74 feels like plunder on the high-seas.

And I don't roll like that. (Yarrrhhh!)

    • +1

I bought 3.5" as well! (Seagate Expansion). Guys at OW Melbourne CBD 2 looked bit techy (and he called MLN to check if they had Seagate Expansion in stock)!! so didn't press my luck to asking for Free agent 1tb (3.5" was on display at $144)!

PS: the guy from OW (technology section) initially told me MLN does not have Seagate Expansion HDD in stock! but i insisted my friend got one this morning, so he called up MLN to check!!!

  • Guys! is it better than the ALDI one?

    • +1

      no, aldi one has eSATA

  • Thanks! I bought one from ALDI… i thought i should check it :-) Thanks mate

  • Good deal! Just got mine today at the MLN at Victoria Market (Melbourne). Arrived when they were putting the stock into the store, still heaps left that i saw (at least 140+)

    • danteshope, were there many of the 500GB Iomega drives?

  • don't know how you can fool OW when they will ask them if its 3.5 or 2.5..

  • FYI - OW have dropped their price from $108 to $99.

  • -1

Is it possible/easy to remove the bare drive from the enclosure? Is the bare drive a SATA drive?

  • +1

So just to confirm that the one MLN are selling is the Seagate Expansion 3.5 inch?

I just price matched one from OW too for $74.10. They did a stock check against MLN West Melbourne store.

  • OW in ACT, Fyshwick would not price match. No MLN's nearby.

  • Guys its $78 buckssss what the hell are you blokes bloody complaining about
i just picked up one =D

    • How about a positive vote for the OP then

  • I've purchase the 1TB Seagate External Hard Drive $78 from MLN last Friday. I'd tried to plug in my new Sony Bravia LED TV, but did'nt open. My brother, his an IT. Told me that my TV does'nt reconigzed NFTS File System, only FAT32. So, I travel back to Essendon for an exchaged to the Iomega 500GB External Hard Drive for $69. I assumed this one will work, coz I previously had the ALdi 500GB External Hard Drive(it worked wonderful!!!). But DAMN!! The File System is NFTS too!!! Now I don't know what to do with my 2 USELESS External Hard Drive!!! I've been told that Aldi will stock some more the External Hard Drives, so I can't wait to get another one!!

    • -1

you realise you just format it to FAT32? Your IT brother is holding out on you.

  • plug it into your computer. right click on it's icon under My Computer. Choose Format. Choose Fat32.

Be aware that the maximum file size on a FAT32 formatted partition is 4 GB though…

You said your brother is in IT? Hmmm, this is one of the most basic things….

  • My brother tried to reformat the Seagate 1TB External Hard Drive, but it reduced the free space to about 380GB. Anyway my Tv still could'nt open any files. So when I got a different, the guy from MLN said I need a software to reformat the Iomega 500GB External Hard Drive to FAT32. But he said the GB free space gonna reduced. I was upset coz, I don't know how much free space gonna reduced. I don't know what to do now!!

    • Try a prorgam called swiss knife. It's what I use to convert my drives to FAT32, and I generally don't have to many problems with it.

  • Thanks epicaricacy, it does'nt showed Fat32, only (exFat). My brother tried on his PC and it showed exFat too.

  • Thanks tomsco, so far I know that the Seagate and Iomega External Hard Drive are no good for my Sony Bravia TV(P.S. I've also try both on my Philips DVD Player, but did'nt open.) So, would you know any other Brands that run FAT32 File System?

    • All brands should run FAT32. I admit, i'm probably not the best person to ask about this sort of thing, but just try formatting them with SwissKnife and see how it goes.
