Hello,

I am trying out a new marketplace in Australia called volstreet.com as a seller. VolStreet is a collaborative market place which offers dynamic pricing for a product based on the volume committed by different users before the promotion end time.

What is the Offer:
- Google Chrome cast 2 available for upto $44 (please see below). It is available for Pick up from Melbourne, or can be shipped for FREE.

How does this discount work?

  • If total sales are between 1-5 , then the discount is 10% ($49.5)
  • If total sales are between 6-10 , then the discount is 15% ($46.75)
  • If total sales are between 11-15 , then the discount is 20% ($44)

How to buy?
- If you are interested , you can commit to buy by logging in. Money will not be deducted from your account until the promotion ends.
- When the promotion ends, Final discount is determined based on the total no.of units committed by everyone and charged accordingly
- If you change your mind, you can cancel it before the promotion end time.

How will it be delivered?
- You can either choose to pick up (Melbourne) or choose a delivery address to ship the product when you commit the purchase.

    Good price including shipping but a difficult concept as most people will want to wait until 10 are sold before committing so they get the best price.
    If everyone waits then it they will never get the qty needed.

      Hi,
      Thanks for the interesting feedback. Platform provides a feature to cancel your transaction before the expiry time so that if you don't see enough people buying in you can cancel it and you won't be charged.

          I think you need to be happy with any of the prices, or willing to take the risk.

          In this case <$50 for a Chromecast including shipping is a great price considering about the cheapest I could find was Officeworks @ $55 (wouldn't price beat Kogan on $54 because you'd have to add shipping of about $5).

          So if I hadn't just bought one I would give it a try because even the highest price here is a good one. Anything else is a bonus.

    Ok, that's good to know. This is an innovative concept, so I'm just trying to understand it better.

    The link says that the seller is Rise & Shine Online and their address is 5 Applebox Circuit , Point Cook, VIC 3030.

      Hi, some are small sellers like ones on eBay. All sellers are vetted and verified by stripe the payment gateway provider.

        Also, they need to have valid ABN and address etc which are required to validate a seller

      Are you for real? It's a $40 Chromecast and you're wanting a bank guarantee that this is legit!?

      I guess you don't buy from eBay or most online shops either as you can get a bank guarantee to cover the $40 items you're purchasing.

        I think his concept is… lets create website where ppl will buy from me (depends how many) and i will buy from ebay vendors with discounts on bulk buy.

        You get 4 layers of protection from buying through eBay. The eBay money back guarantee, the Paypal Buyer Protection, your credit card fraud protection and finally the Australian Consumer Law. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the last 2 options. Credit card fraud protection can sometimes require you to cancel your credit card if you want to dispute a charge. Australian Consumer Law complaints need to be made to the ACCC, which isn't much protection at all if the seller is a dud or goes under.

        Volstreet doesn't have a money back guarantee like eBay nor does it allow payments through Paypal. In fact, their terms and conditions say that they have no liability at all to you if anything goes wrong (https://volstreet.com/#/terms, see Liability & Indemnity). Hence I'm trying to figure out a bit more about the seller to work out if I want to take a chance that this seller is a dud.

          You get no protection when buying through eBay, the money back and buyer protection are both rubbish and meant to give deluded purchasers the feeling that they are protected.

          Rubbish, if you are disputing a charge from a vendor for a purchase that you made you do not have to cancel your credit card unless the card has been compromised.

          What do the ACCC have to do with this? You need to contact fair trading but at the end of the day you have to enforce any consumer law claims as no-one else will do it for you.

    Needs the functionality to "commit at a certain price"

    ie. i'd be happy to commit if I can get the 20% discount, but not at the 15% discount - I should be able to commit at 20%.

    That way people are not waiting for others to take the plunge first.

    People may commit at 15% if they want the item. If the required sales crosses to 20% discount, these people would also get the 20% discount.

    Hope that makes sense.

        Yeah - what i'm saying is that people are not going to commit at a tiny discount, but may want to commit at a higher discount.

        ie. everyone will just stand back and wait until people take the plunge.

        By being able to commit at a higher discount, you will get the numbers required, because people aren't standing around waiting for the other guy to buy first.

        Hi, thanks for asking and you are right. Final discount is determined by total number of sales at the end of the promotion. E.g. If 11sales are committed at the end, all 11 will get 20% and if only 10 are committed, all 10 will get 10% for this promotion.

      Yes, I agree. I would certainly consider using the website if there was a way to "commit at a certain price".
      Perhaps a field for "maximum purchase price that I will pay"
