eBay Cashback Increases to 2.00% Sitewide until 6PM 21/02 @ Cashrewards

11518

Cashrewards have upped their rewards to 2% (up from 1.25%) for a short amount of time only.

Although it's not a huge increase, and 2% is quite small in comparison to other deals, I just thought I would at least share with the community.

Coupon code from existing eBay deal is also allowed to be used when claiming cashback.

A maximum of $50 cashback may be earned on any single purchase.

Enjoy!

    = 75c per $100 spend difference.
    Incentive to buy? Maybe…
    Turns this into $2.63 delivered
    Bargain? Nah…

I just thought I would at least share with the community

+1 for this. Appreciate the share :)

I'd prefer the Sanda version of the Skmei 1134 for approx AU$5.88 Shipped

You MUST leave a message about colour you want in ""Add message"" before you pay the money on eBay. Otherwise the order will be sent by our system automatically.

A penny saved is a penny earned. Love cashrewards!

i just bought this yesterday http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intex-Mariner-4-Person-Boat-Set-I…
    coulda been almost $3 richer

  • +15

2% is quite small in comparison to other deals

    It IS

    Basically you a posting a 0.75% saving…

    • +31

Or 60% increase on cash back!!

  • -2

    lol no

    • +17

0.75% (75c on every $100 or 75c on every 10,000c) is nothing more than cheap marketing.

CR rep stopped with these marketing posts long ago and is savvy enough not to come and comment on them any more either.

To put it in perspective, the maximum discount available would be $18.75 on a $2500 purchase.

Anyone trying to post this kind of discount here for another company as a deal would be shamed into DisabledUser204XXX status

      • It's still 0.75% more of a discount than the NES Classic posts

        • The RRP of NES is $99.95 and most of the deals were sold for $99.

        • @gazza88: A quick search and I found a lot of $99.95, $99.99 (COTD) and then there's the postage on top. I think only JB and Big W do $99?

There's no postage on cold hard bank transfers

        • @Putnum:
Target are also $99 and even COTD did $99 with free shipping as well for club catch

  • +50

I love cashback but these deals get far too much attention. No other 2% saving would ever see the front page.

    • +37

Let me correct that for you.

No other 0.75% saving would ever see the front page.

        • +13

If I buy a $100 item with Cashback reward I will get $2 back. That is, 2%.

Normally you'd get $1.25 though, so this deal is to advertise you will get an extra 75 cents on your $100 purchase…

        • @4agte:

Whooooosh! What was that sound? :)

        • @4agte: their point is you'd usually use cashback - this is an everyday thing on OzBargain. Cashback its self isn't any kind of promotion or speciality, it's available 24/7 and quite accurate these days.

        • -1

          @dyl:

I understand that and I'm not arguing that point at all. I thought I made it clear I was talking about my perspective

Again I'm talking about my overall savings. That's is what's important to me.

I'm talking about actually savings. Not the difference between the normal and current savings

        • +1

          @4agte:

In your situation it's serving as an announcement of 2% cashback you didn't know about. For the rest of us, it's a 0.75% deal.

Most around here don't consider announcements as deals, so they (me included) only see the 0.75%.

      • Except for NES Classics

    • So you dont want free money if your buying something anyway? Hand in your OzBargain licence.

      • Wheere did I say that? :S

    • To be fair there's been a fair few 0% savings for Nintendo products getting quite a few upvotes recently.

      • This is a case of ignoring RRP on ozbargain, just it's a reversal situation.

A RRP of $99 for example is cool and all, but if the product is $300+ elsewhere (eBay) then $99 can be considered a bargain, no matter if it's only RRP or not.

  • +2

Great for people who make big purchases on eBay. A $1,500 laptop will give $30 instead of $18.75.

This is like an annoying ebay and CR pop up ad.. Keeps coming every now and then.. Must be stopped..

    • -4

Under the description, under the tags list, there's a button labelled Hide. Just click on that.

      • +4

There is no option to hide deals worth 0.75% savings.. So that doesn't help..

        • -2

You negged it because you find it annoying. What about all the other people who find it a good deal? Should this site only show deals that you find good?

        • +6

@eug: well ignoring last 25 times didn't help as they keep coming.. So tried negging this time to stop this nonsense.. U did ur part I did mine.. So move on..

        • +9

          @eug:

        • +4

@yourpalcliffy: You should hide all CR deals if they've annoyed you 26 times. This site isn't just for deals that you personally like. Maybe check out the voting guidelines while you're at it?

        • @jv: Pity I can't neg individual users. ;)

Why? Has your account been restricted?

      • +4

Negging the spam not CR or OP.

    • -1

Agreed. Just like the annoying Uber first time customer only discounts that keep repeating themselves.

I've mostly given up on Cash Rewards as I find their workflow/automated emails and customer service system to be appalling.

  • Nice a freebie bonus, not sure it's really vote worthy as such. Even the AliEx extra 3% which is much more than this isn't really "much" unless you happen to buying something already.

    • this isn't really "much" unless you happen to buying something already.

Reminds me of this poor guy

  • +6

Not vote worthy in the slightest. Cashback increases are always good, but this is hardly a bargain.

This is a savings, not a bargain. Should not be on front page for sure.

        So, most agree…

        • +1

I'd say all deals get more than twice as many clicks as up votes.

        • @sween64:

This one is running at a low 20% up votes / click

        • @jv: It could be even lower, I haven't even clicked on it.

        • @sween64: and the fact you must comment to put a negative vote, so much easier to positive vote.

    • This is a savings, not a bargain.

      Isn't a bargain … a savings on the regular price? :)

      • +1

Isn't a bargain … a savings on the regular price?

  • +35

These insignificant cashback posts are pointless.

If someone submitted a deal for a store having 2% off, they'd get laughed off the site. But because OzBargain has some bizarre affection for cashback sites, this deal will probably get pumped full off up-votes and my comment will get stomped with dislikes.

Too much faffing around for the sake of possibly getting some small reward.

    • +3

Not much faffing around. Use a browser that doesn't have any ad-blocks. Keep it signed in to the CR account, search for a store and shop. It's about four clicks and a small amount of typing.

    • -1

Many users know how to make use of cashback sites, or happen to make lots of purchases that qualify for cashback. Remember, different people have different online shopping habits. Just because you don't doesn't mean it's a bad deal for everyone - there are many different people out there with different shopping habits to you. Some of them spend lots and get lots of cashback.

      • +5

        Stop calling it a deal.

        It's just spam advertising.

        • -2

          Not all deals suit you.
This is a deal for people who buy expensive items on eBay.

        • +5

          @eug:

          No, not really.

No guaranteed discount, one false move and the sale is not tracked. Takes like 3-6 months to get the cashback approved and we shouldn't see deals on the front page for a 0.75% increase in cashback. It's absurd.

        • @fredz:

And you may also have to wait up to 1/4 of a year for the cash back if it even goes through.

        • Agreed fredz. On this basis 99% of deals posted ought to get triple figure upvotes. Found $2 in the carpark the other day without spending a penny. What with the extra 3/4% cashback and finds like that I'll be rolling in it in about the 23rd century.Does cashback cover cryogenics?

        • -2

          @fredz:

No guaranteed discount, one false move and the sale is not tracked.

If you don't follow the rules (which is pretty much "don't run ad-blockers while buying"), then it's your fault isn't it. I've used it for years and haven't had problems. I don't use ad blockers or privacy filters.

And as I said, it's for people who buy expensive items. You're clearly not one of them because you only concentrate on the % figure. I look at the amount. 1.25% of a $1,500 laptop is $18.75. 2% is $30. That's an extra $11.75 from 1 purchase.

Anyone who does semi-frequent large purchases (e.g. for work) would be smiling.

        • @eug:

Anyone who does semi-frequent large purchases (e.g. for work) would be smiling.

          No, they wouldn't.

        • @fredz: OK then.

        • I agree @fredz, at best it should just be a PSA on the forums

    • +4

The point of cashback websites is that you're supposed to combine it with other good offers. If a store advertises 2% off, then laugh them off the site.

But if that store has a 20% off and there are many deals, and then suddenly thousands of ozbargainers are going to make purchases, isn't it a deal if CR tells you to hold up because they will save you some more? For example, this Samsung TV deal for $956 sold 900 units, so to these 900 people, wouldn't it be just 'Free $19 to those who bought the TV'? Sure you need to buy a $900 TV to qualify for the deal, but they were going to purchase the TV regardless, so to those 900 people the deal will be comparable to something like this.

It's just like Amex deals, they get heaps of votes when first posted, but lots of people comment 'can't find anything to buy, everything at HN is overpriced'. However as soon as Gerry Harvey has a sale and suddenly the stuff at HN are somewhat acceptable, people are able to benefit from the deal.

I definitely encourage cashback increases, especially when there are sales around as it's defintiely helped me out in the past. I really can't complain if save a dollar or two every time one of these deals come around. This current eBay 20% off sale is disappointing, but there are still some eBay front page deals currently.

I also find it interesting that extra .25% off WISH (which is only a 5% increase from 5%) is fine but .75% cashback (extra 60% increase) is not. I can't expect CR to do a 10% cashback, but I still don't mind some extra free money when I'm already going to be making a purchase.

Too much faffing around for the sake of possibly getting some small reward.

Takes like two clicks? I haven't had a case of an item not tracking yet, and I'm sure CR will help you out if you contact support.

      • Looks like some people just like to complain. They don't realize that not all deals are made for them personally, and are seemingly unable to understand how people can benefit from even small increments by cashback sites.

      • +1

Actually plenty of people have voiced concern over those pitiful wish card increases as well. It's the same argument.

        • +5

The 5.25% deal received 325 positive votes, and only received 1 negative which was quickly revoked, so WISH (a 0.25% increase from 5%) is clearly more popular than ebay cashback (an 0.75% increase from 1.25%). The same people that neg these eBay deals because '0.75% is not a bargain' keep quiet when there is a WISH deal, which I find very interesting.

        • +2

@lyl: we aren't allowed to neg a saving no matter how pitiful it is, that's why. Just look at how many people are commenting here without a + next to their names will give you an idea of numbers who don't think it's a noteworthy deal.

In my opinion it's just advertising for cash rewards. Clever, and not against any rules, but against the spirit of this site which should be about significant savings, not regular, cyclical minute savings. Again, just my opinion.

        • @tassieeagle:

we aren't allowed to neg a saving no matter how pitiful it is, that's why.

Yes you can, the eBay cashback from 1.25%—>2% deals are repeatedly getting negged so it's definitely allowed. Mods are not removing them, so why are people not also negging WISH deals for the exact same reason?

        • @lyl: I don't know, I can only speak for myself. I don't think I've negged either because they technically are a saving. But neither "deal" sit well with me.

        • @tassieeagle:

Im sure i rememer seeing you neg an ebay CR deal before though…

          edit: found it

        • @lyl: maybe, I can't remember

        • @tassieeagle:

          found it

i jst dont understand why most people are fine with WISH but not this.

        • @lyl: I knew someone would :p

Ok next time there's the obligatory 5.25% wish card offer I'll make sure to neg :D

        • +2
        • +4

@lyl: maybe I've grown as a person and changed my opinion and point of view?

          @tassieeagle:

Wanna come in for some free candy before I move it?

        • @lyl:

I agree with your posts above, so don't take this is an argument against you.

The reason why people do not neg the WISH deals I suspect is because the saving is instant off the purchase price at checkout. Money saved is in the buyers pocket immediately.

With CR % increases, you still need to ensure it is tracked, wait 3 months etc etc and still risk it being declined.

      • @lyl Don't get your logic ("The point of cashback websites is that you're supposed to combine it with other good offers. If a store advertises 2% off, then laugh them off the site….etc. THIS deal is for a miniscule increase in cashback, FAR less in total than you can get on eg Dan Murphy specials, or any number of other retailers who regularly have discounts and have far higher kickbacks. Yet the ovine mentality only seems to exist for ebay deals. Go figure.

      • +1

I understand where you are coming from Lyl. But for those users buying $900 TV, they would be getting $11.25 cashback after few months. Now they are getting $18. Additional $6.25. That is a sort of information only for them and not a deal as they didn't buy a TV based on this information. Its a good to have thing.
Adding 2% with 20% is also not appropriate. 20% discount is good, but if seller jack the prices, it is null and void. Same way 2% on top of 20% is a good piece of info, but wont drag people buying items.

People can ignore these deals, yes they can. But they also want deals to be more appropriate and good like you post from amazon and other stores.
