…and it's all done and dusted (maximum enrollment number reached). Remember to grab a temp velocity card at the counter to receive 500 velocity points (new sign ups_ + 120 points for the fuel itself (at 3 points/ $) + the points for spending on the AMEX itself + up to 25% off fuel…. so much win!

    • OzBargained! So that lasted… 12 hours? I posted it at just past 2am my time, and it's just past 2pm now. :O

    • What a joke. Too busy at work to check ozbargain. Email from Amex came 30 minutes too late.

Wife knew about it but never alerted me nor signed up. Can the ozbargain community recommend a divorce lawyer. ><

  • +1

Yup, all gone folks, looks like I missed out

  • +1

Unfortunately the maximum number of Card Members have already enrolled in this offer.

  • How do you guys find these deals aside from them showing up in the app?

    • I was suffering insomnia, got an OzB site notification at around 1:00am that the $80/$20 spend offer went live today. It wasn't active at that time but when I checked again an hour later the $80/$20 had gone up and the BP was also in my offer list.

Right place, right time. Suspect there's other methods (the $80/$20 went up 11 days before the start date) though.

      • What OzB site notification are you referring to exactly? This wasn't previously posted on Ozbargain was it?

        • I meant I'd set a reminder on the $80/$20 post when it was originally posted. The notification was "Reminder: [NOT YET ACTIVE] AmEx Statement Credits: Multi Brand Offer (Spend $80, Get $20, up to 3 Times) Starts 21/2"… 15 hours 46 min ago

        • @beeawwb:

Oohhh you're referring to that deal. Sorry got confused. Thought you were talking about this one.

        • @illumination: Yeah, it was only because I went to enrol in that deal that I saw this deal was available as well. :)

      • That "other" place is Amexconnect website and manual link is also generated from there
        www.amexconnect.com.au

  • just called up my local BP they accept amex with no surcharge but require pin. Will be making multiple opal topups :)

    • location please ?

  • Do they sell Telstra prepaid recharge if so
Can you buy Telstra prepaid recharges n will it work ?

  • +3

I find it odd that both this deal and the spend $80 get $20 back have already reached their card limits.
Similar deals in the past have normally lasted a few days before the entries are exhausted..

    • More people are becoming more aware of such deals?

    • +2

I think more people are cottoning on to supplementary cards too (13 cards for some)

      • +2

Exactly. Some people here brag about having over 20 cards so that explains a lot

      • That's true, but that's the exception to the norm.

        • Some have 20, some have 10 but it adds up.
Also depends on the number of cards Amex allow to be registered. I've seen +40,000

    • Totally agree

  • +2

    I am too slow!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +1

just did 2 opal top ups, received 2 confirmation emails on the $10 cr

  • just did 6 X $40 opal top up's using 6 different cards. Got 5 emails from Amex
From the past experiences, pretty confident that credits will come through.

    • +1

Your doing it wrong. Should have done 12 x $40.

      • I will do a second run soon for the remaining 6

    • +1

Negged for being a true ozbargainer and maxing out his savings? What have we come to?

      • +1

people are so jealous. cant help

        • +2

          6 x $40 ? I gotta do 13 x $40 x two runs

        • @Turd: nice. Happy for you

  • No way, already gone… saw it today during work and after work all I see is expired!

  • +1

Far out! That went way too quickly! It's been OZbargained!

  • Yesterday, I Went to BP and got $200gc split into 5 payments. Operator said they Can accept up to 21 split payments. Went to a different BP this morning, they said only Can Do up to 2 split payments. Unbelievable.

    • what was the location ?

    • +1

      Different operator different info.

      That is life

    • Operator said they Can accept up to 21 split payments

Lol I wonder how they settled on that number. Did they just randomly pull a figure out of their…

      • half the number of life the universe and everything

  • -1

Can you split a payment 2x with the same card to get the cashback.

    I have 3x AMEX cards I have saved this to. If I buy a $200 giftcard, can I pay $40, AMEX1, AMEX2, AMEX3, AMEX1, AMEX2, AMEX3?

    • Yes, question is will the operator allow you?

      • Excellent, I will give it a go at the local. Worth a try to get all the cashbacks done in one swoop. Otherwise I will lose savings if I have to do it another way.

        • +1

Tried last night, one local BP only willing to split once not over 5 transactions. Another one had no problem, but it took quite a while and queue was building up behind me…So I would try at a quiet time to have better chance.

        • @Wolfie: which location?

        • +1

@Shikha966: kew is negative, malvern one is good.

  • Credits have come through already

  • Just a headup. I fueled up $40 at BP Oakleigh yesterday.

The meter showed exactly $40 but then it came to $39.— at the counter so the transaction not qualified for the cashback.

Probably will try $41 next time :(

    • +1

you should have gone back and filled it again for the extra $.

    • How come it showed that? Did you tell them it was $40 ??? and no $39.xx ?

You want to pay more!!! so you can get less! LOL

    • I have seen some pump round a couple of cents down for "rounding". I assume it is to compensate for any "delay" between the pump and meter.

    • Yeah my wife went into to pay though so I have no idea it wasn't $40 until everything is done.

Well have until 4/4 anyway. Their price is chepeast in the area as well.

  • BP in Kingston, ACT have gift cards and accept Amex.

  • don't forget to get Velocity points too!

  • Also noticed JB hifi and Itunes giftcards at the Cannington, WA BP. Only bought BP giftcards and got the confirmation email.

  • -1

Any BP near Liverpool / Campbelltown area in Sydney accepts split payment? I went to 3 different locations to buy $200 gift card but all refused to accept split payment.

  • +1

Can you double dipped for the velocity points?
Purchase $200 BP GC swipe Velocity card.
Fill in Petrol using the GC and get more Velocity points?

    • +1

Purchase gc does not incur any points

  • How are people getting $200 vouchers? The BP I've tried at twice have NO idea how to process gift cards (first time left empty handed.. last night took about 15minutes for 2x$100, which were only able to be split 4 ways as the said they have to do them individually?

    • They have to refer to their handbook. Complaint to BP HQ for their incapabality.

    • yes, put in a complaint to head office, they will contact the store.

      [email protected]

  • Used 5 cards to buy up opal.

    Another 8 to go lol!

25 percent of Sydney public transport!

Another step closer to buying Sydney House!

  • Just got the email within half and hour.
Hopefully get the money back in 5 days

  • Does anyone know when USING the BP gift cards to pay for petrol, can we use more than 1 card at a time? Eg if I have $10 left in 1 card, can I use $10 then pay the rest with another card?

The back of the BP Gift Cards clearly said ONE CARD PER TRANSACTION…

    • I did it last year with 2 cards and no problem.

    • YMMV depends on operator

    • I have used multiple cards before without any problem. In fact I remember paying for a $100+ transaction with multiple of $20 gift cards I got as a gift.

    • last time I filled up in two transactions at the same time.

  • I registered 2 cards on the day of the deal n got redirected to a confirmation Web page saying my cards were registered, BUT I never got a confirmation email like I got when I registered for the spend $80 n get $20 back deal.

I used one of the cards to pay for fuel at BP 2 days ago and haven't gotten a confirmation email, where as I got 2 confirmation emails about $20 back when I used my amex cards at umart.

Has anyone else had this issue??

  • Can I fuel up $15 and buy a $25 gift card (=$40)? Does a gift card have to be redeemed all in one go in one transaction?

    • +1

      No it doesn't

  • So I used this deal x2, got my $20 back… But the Offer still says "Saved to Card" rather than "Redeemed"… Is there a chance I can try again?

    • No chance

    • nope. I accidently used one of my cards 3 times on this deal, and only got cashback for two. The offer still says 'saved to card' in the login - so its definitely only 2 times.

  • Any BP in Sydney accepts split payment ?

    • If they don't allow split payment, it is pretty simple to bypass.

$15 fuel and $25 gift card = $40. Do that a couple of times and they cannot stop you for "splitting" payments.

  • purchased a $200 with 5 cards, BP cashier remembered me from last bp amex offer where I did the same.

best to try at the bp owned stations, most likely to have gift cards, allow you to use amex, and then split payments.

i use the franchise only when using the giftcards on fuel.

    • How would one tell the difference between franchise and BP owned?

      • Hard to tell, but I find these are generally the larger, more polished looking stores, include car wash, wildbean, etc.

        http://apps.nowwhere.com.au/BP/SiteLocator#

        • The BP station I go to is fairly run down, but it does have gift cards and allow AMEX.

  • Here's a searchable map of the BP stores that do Opal top ups in NSW: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1V1D2A8BNeDs-PcHGg6EE5rwXXI…. AMEX acceptance is not guaranteed.

Data was taken from the Opal retailers list: http://www.retailers.opal.com.au/list.html

  • BP operators did not write the expiry on my Gift Cards. Does anyone know how long they are valid for?

    • I'll check when I'm back in a week or so, but I'm pretty sure they are 12months from activation.

      • Correct, 12 months it is.
