Xiaomi Redmi 4 (International Edition) 3GB/32GB $169.99 US ($228.97) w/Free Shipping @ GearBest

160

I get emails from Gearbest sometimes and saw this.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 4G Smartphone - INTERNATIONAL EDITION MIUI 8 - 5 Inch Screen.
Looks like the deal applies only to the Gold and Silver. Price goes up if you want the Grey one.
(Of course I see it just after having purchased another phone instead - Thank you Mr Murphy and your stupid law).

Price is 169.99 US - The site is translating that into $228 AU although the title bar of my browser is saying $210.79 and my experience is that Gearbest seems to estimate the AU price then charge you in US dollars when you purchase at checkout. So your exchange rate may be better than their estimate. (Mine was.)

Longtime lurker. This is my first ever deal submission. I hope it goes well.

Note: Redmi 4 Int'l doesn't have B28. Might be a dealbreaker for some.

Thanks OP for submitting a bargain. Appreciate the effort! :)

Good point! Should have mentioned that.
I think it's a given now that Chinadroids will be missing Band 28.
It might be more notable to mention when it does include B28 rather than when it doesn't. Cheers!

Ah yeah, but Int'l edition is a bit confusing for some people.

Xiaomi Note 3 (Kate) has B28. On Banggood Kate's called "Global Edition".

      • No some chinadroids do have band 28 …. Better to flag if they don't ….Not good to normalise a phone designed for China market as potential phone for blobal matket..Also helps to educate the associated listers..Mi7 will be sold in us and Europe so might have it as std global.

Mi Note 2 128GB Global Edition has band 28 along with the RN3 Global Edition.

Use 28 Degrees MC for best exchange rate available .. :-O .. !!

    • Or Bankwest Zero or Coles Platinum or ANZ Travel Adventures…

      • or Citibank Plus…

      • OK .. so there are other cards that have zero fees on OS transactions but I think you'll find 28D still has the best exchange rate .. :-O .. !! Applies particularly to Citi which I've recently ditched due to uncompetive Ts&Cs.

        • 28D, Bankwest Zero & Coles Platinum are all Mastercards and therefore receive the same Mastercard interchange FX rate. ANZ Travel Adventures is a Visa so receives the Visa interchange rate - arguably a better FX rate than Mastercard.

Honestly, 28D has gone downhill in a big way - it is no longer the preferred o/seas trans card for OzBargainers anymore. Plenty of forum threads about it. It had a good run though.

        • @tomclancy: I just spent time trolling through months of Whirlpool posts about 28D and the only negatives I could find were incessant carping about the $0.95 monthly payment processing fee. LOL .. :-( .. !!

  • Do these phones have decent cameras? Very tempted.

  • I recommend the Lenovo Zuk2 over this for the same price. Comes with better CPU/GPU, more RAM and larger ROM.

      link please?

Pay a bit more for band 28 or move closer to the city/suburban area.

I've been using Chinese phones without band 28 for years without any problem. I am currently using Telstra, Kogan(Vodafone) and TPG(Vodafone). All works fine on 4G/3G.

Depends if you're techie or not. The Zuk 2's stock ROM isn't great, at least up until recently required a VPN to update, and won't be supported as long as the Redmi 4. The Redmi 4 (if on the official Global ROM) will receive security updates for longer, and MIUI 8 is reasonably polished.

Your average smartphone user (I bought the Redmi 4 Prime for my mum) isn't going to tell the difference between a Snapdragon 625/3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 820/4GB RAM.

But I reckon if you're willing/able to custom ROM the thing, the Z2 is an amazing value buy.

      • True that,

Both the Le Max 2 and Zuk2 comes with the shop firmware. You have to manually flash their official firmware to have it working properly.

How are Lenovo with their Android updates? Xiaomi are pretty good… as good as other phone makers who don't use stock Android. I've got a Redmi Note 3, already on Marshmallow, and Xiaomi are already testing Nougat, and quite a number of their devices will be getting it.

      • +1

Lenovo already released Nougat for the Chinese ROM. Internation/Indian ROM to follow.

Missing NFC which is a deal breaker for me.

B28 + NFC + Dual Sim + Separate microSD card slot at <$500 seems impossible.

    • Mi7 will be sold in us and Europe so not impossible …..France uses band 28 as does Finland an EU has reserved band 28 for phones.

XDA just tested N4 and compared it with N3, in short N3 is a mid range and N4 is less than that

I have the regular (Non prime) version and it's a pretty decent phone. Mind you for $150 i wasn't expecting much. Camera is trash but a number of MIUI's features are actually very good and the battery is the absolute best i've had in a smartphone (4100mah + MIUI's battery saving features means it can last 2 days of reasonable use)

  • What is the use of Band B28, please? Sorry for the poor knowledge.

    • For networks that use 700MHz

    • There has been discussions on here before about the value of B28. If you're on the Vodafone network, you don't need it. If you're on the others, there's only one 4G band you can use (as opposed to 2), so if you can't get on that frequency, you'll drop to 3G.

      • you'll drop to 3G

Which should still be fine for normal browsing and social media, just maybe slower for large downloads.

  • I'm looking for the Redmi note 4x ! Seems decent

  • So is there a cheap dual sim 3g/4g with band 28 and good specs and preferrably smaller screen (5 inch or close)?

  • It looks like a presale deal to me from website. If that's the case, below is a far better deal:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/292480

Le Max 2 with American firmware
    SD820 4G/64G and QHD
