  • what's the warranty?

    • 1 year

        • LOL not rep - just somehow click rep button.

1 year warranty but consumer law might give you more - $2.8k is a lot to splash on such an item.

My experience with a 3 year old model is the battery fails after about 1000 charges - and is expensive to replace ($300)

          @jv:

Good link JV, but bare in mind that is a non-genuine battery you have linked to.

Often they are very, very bad quality. Think "Gygabyte"

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

Often they are very, very bad quality

I usually get my laptop and camera batteries from http://www.betterbatt.com.au and never had a problem. They don't seem to stock one for this model though.

      • thats cr@p, my gygabyte is same specs and i got 2 years warranty, plus i paid it $500 less….

        • What model Gigabyte?

If you bought a "Gygabyte" you may have bought a lemon?

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

          p57x-1070-601s

          lemon how?

seriously, are we in first grad to grab on like kids for a typo mistake???

Don't be disrespectful to the Rep…

          @drazenm:

The brand is important. A Gygabyte might be a Gigabyte knock-off. In which case it's likely to be a piece of crap and a lemon.

ANyway given its a typo, and you actually have a Gigabyte, looking at your model the obvious difference is you don't have a g-sync monitor…

          Edited - you have a Gigabyte P57X-1070-601S NOT A Gigabyte P57w-1060-601S

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

nope, mine is 1070 8gb:) and i dont need g-sync for anything at all, never had any tear issues that v-sync didnt fix or driver update etc.

        • @drazenm:

Actually I stand corrected on the 1060/1070 - was looking at the w specs - you have an x

Your model is end of life already and being heavily discounted. It is no doubt good bang for buck if you can find stock.

A little curious why your model has gone end of life so soon.

The ASUS is slightly lighter than your model (2.9kg vs 3.0kg) but that's not a significant difference. Looks like your model is a good deal if you can get stock and you don't want G-Sync…

If you havent used a G-Sync monitor you may not think you need one - but if you use one and game with it, you will probably never want to game on a non G-sync monitor again (unless of course you are foolish enough to buy AMD instead of Nvidia someday).

I am not sure about the Gigabyte's cooling system (never seen or used one) - I would say the cooling on the ASUS is superb. That is certainly worth something as an overheating gaming laptop is just a pain in the ass (think HP Envy) - the ASUS is designed from the start for gaming. The Gigabyte I am not sure of.

@GreatWhiteHunter: thats why i went and grabbed one for christmas just before they pulled it from the market, there's an identical one with all same specs, the only difference is that they added an ssd of 256 and ask $350 to $500 more for it lol. No brainer why i got the 601s model.

        • @drazenm:

Yep bang for buck you got a great deal.

How is the cooling design and effectiveness? Kinda hard to see from the photos, and in their blurb they dont make mention of it.

        • @drazenm: > i dont need g-sync for anything at all

Another person who has never used G-sync.

Also drivers have nothing to do with screen tearing.

  • Hi "Rep", Is your avatar a selfie?

    • No. It's a picture of my favourite actress, Alexis Love.

She has starred in many short films - Google her.

  • Is it worth spending ~$800 more over this?

    Differences I can see are:
6th gen vs 7th gen processor
    8gb vs 16 gb ram
    1060 vs 1070.

    2079.20 vs 2839.20

    • I think the $2000 machine is better value but it comes down to whether you need the better graphics card or not.

6th gen vs 7 gen processor might affect battery life a little, but the performance increase of 5-10% wont be noticable.

Ram you wont notice most of the time.

  • Hate that DVD/Bluray drives are dead on gaming laptops and almost every keyboard is chicklet. :(
