OzSale was an XB1 controller, this is 360…

  • +3

A better deal? Isn't this 360 vs XBOne in the other deal?

    • well it's a better deal for Windows, includes receiver and 360 controller is basically the golden standard

      • +2

Yeah if you feel like making a new account, otherwise the price is pretty standard

        • Thanks, no deal then

      • +1

How is getting the previous generation controller a better deal unless you specifically want that for some reason that i cannot fathom?

        • Better compatibility, cheaper, nicer shape, cheaper, … and how about "cheaper"?

        • @llama: It's the same price though?

        • @YoungFriendly:

          It's the same price though?

Well OK, if you want to look at it that way… then this deal is the same price however you get a FREE USB Receiver so that this controller can be used on your PC as a game controller.

Whilst to do the exact same thing with the Xbox One controller in the other deal, you also need to ALSO PAY $29.95 to buy the receiver.

So, on that basis it's not the same price… this deal is just under $30 cheaper.

        • @llama: eh, the dongle isn't essential, xbone controller works with pc on a wired microusb connection which everybody has already

        • @llama: point noted though

        • @YoungFriendly:

eh, the dongle isn't essential, xbone controller works with pc on a wired microusb connection which everybody has already

Yes, however if you only want a WIRED Xbox 360 controller for your PC, then you pay about half the price.

eg: Megabuy $20.85 or heaps of other places in the $25 to $30 range.

Apples vs Apples = a fair comparison.

  • damn I already have an account

    • Make a new one…..

    • if you have a gmail account you ahve an infinite amount of emails
      eg

      you can use [email protected]
and you will get the email aswell
or just put a + after the email.

    • damn I already have an account

      Is this a troll comment?

Surely the entire world has worked out the solution to this problem.

      • I wasn't sure if they checked by name/address or just email address so I was putting it out there, and making multiple accounts could be against their terms.

        • making multiple accounts could be against their terms.

          You're kidding, right?

They are a RETAILER, not the ATO or Centrelink.

        • @llama: I'm not talking legally, it's just dishonest. The deal is intended for new customers, if I'm not a new customer, then I would be cheating them on something which I'm not really eligible for.

Same as people who scan all their fruit & veg as Carrots at Supermarket Self Checkout.

  • +1

Call me blind but where does it say it inc the receiver??

    • I can't find any reference to it either. Even the picture of the boxed product doesn't mention anything about the receiver being included.

Edit: just saw the receiver in the boxed product picture. Would be good if it mentioned it somewhere in the listing.

Please think twice before buying branded products from Groupon.

The deal even had legitimate advertising/pictures despite them selling fakes.

  • Not commenting on the Deal/store itself but in general i find the XBOX360 controller to be FAR superior to the 360 controller both in terms of build quality and usability as a controller. I've seen 7 (I wish i was kidding) Xbox one controllers break at the hands of a certain fifa playing housemate while we've only gone through one 360 controller so far. The Xbox 360 controller is also far more suited to larger hands.

in general i find the XBOX360 controller to be FAR superior to the 360 controller

      Ummm yeah… :P

      • +6

I disagree. The 360 controller is FAR superior to the XBOX360 controller!

        • Personally I find the Xbox360 controller is much better than both the 350 controller and the XBOX360 controller.

        • @llama:

          Well shit.

          XBOX 360 > XBOX 1

        • @vv4rhead:

          And it's….. Xbox360 FTW !

Your preference could have gone either way LOL

    • I've seen 7 (I wish i was kidding) Xbox one controllers break at the hands of a certain fifa playing housemate while we've only gone through one 360 controller so far

That has absolutely NOTHING to do with the quality of 2 types of controllers.

The breakage of Xbox One controllers is caused by a phenomenon called "EA AIDS", which results in a medical condition termed "FIFA RAGE". Sufferers find that the pain is temporarily eased by violently throwing the controller at the nearest wall, floor or TV screen.

  • Why "for Xbox & Windows"?
Should work on OSX, Linux, Android, smart-tv, …

    • Microsoft don't want to support people using it on something non-Windows or Xbox, why would they?

      • What support? I was addressing easternculture.
Microsoft hardware products have a good reputation for following standards and not requiring special drivers.

You would not say a Microsoft keyboard is "for windows".

Cheaper at Shopping Express without the need to make a new account.

Including shipping (for my post code) $46.55 at Shopping Express vs $47.90 at Groupon

    • I recommend get the wired version instead
      http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/microsoft-xbox-360-con…,
more scales of vibration and more reliable connection, no need to charge battery. and only $25 without postage @SE.
I have two and loved them.

      • I have two and loved them.

How 1990's. Still using the rotary dial telephone at home as well?

How is this a better deal than the Ozsale one?
The Ozsale one is an Xbox One controller. This is an Xbox 360 controller.

    • +1

How is this comment sensible, useful or helpful?

The Ozsale one is an Xbox One controller. This is an Xbox 360 controller PLUS receiver for PC.

  • Apologies in advance for my ignorance on this subject, but I recently bought a 2nd-hand X-box 360 via Gumtree that came with three wireless controllers, and this post (kinda?) suggests that I may actually be able to also use them as controllers to play PC games, if I buy a PC 'receiver' (which I assume is a small USB device)? Is that the case?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

    • +1

That's correct. A genuine receiver is about $30 but may be getting hard to find. Ebay has knock off versions for about $10 (what I have), you just need to manually install microsoft drivers and that process is well documented online.

The controller support in most games is great with visual representation of button functions on screen and for the most part you wouldn't know you're not using an xbox, except for the added smoothness and superior graphics that is.

      Sincerely, pcmasterrace.

      • Awesome, thanks for your swift response/heads-up!

      • +1

The aftermarket (fake) receivers can sometimes be a real challenge to get running, due to the dodgy drivers that are supplied which are an old/kludged version of the official MS drivers.

If you simply plug and play, Windows will install the latest drivers which won't work. Then you have to go googling to find a solution. I've been there and done that many times over the years. If you can get genuine, it makes it heaps easier overall.

        • I'm assuming I just need one receiver, to run multiple controllers… is that right?

        • +2

          @GnarlyKnuckles:

Yep - four controllers off each PC receiver

          http://support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xb…

The quadrant lights in the ring around the X button on the controller indicate which one is which, same as on an Xbox console.

EDIT: I dunno if you can use 2 x receivers and run 8 controllers… but probably not LOL

  • PC Case gear has them for $39

    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/16958/microsoft-xbox-360…

Megabuy is even cheaper but I'd rather go with PCCG.
