    What have been peoples experience streaming 4k or even 1080p over wireless?

    I have a Nexus Player and it seems to struggle with getting 1080p data in time to play it - I need to let plex buffer for ages etc

      Yeah you can, I believe it can act as an adaptive storage as the built-in storage is only a dismal 8gb. You can download VLC, Kodi, MX Player etc as the media player.

      This is standalone in addition to having a casting ability. I like this approach more than having to always pull out my phone or search for it if i want to watch something

    Streaming media is one of the things I'm quite interested in and have bought loads of devices and built HTPCs over the years. My opinion:

    The best overall solution is a HTPC running Windows 10 using the Edge browser. Ubuntu and OpenELEC are good too

    I recently got the NVidia Shield TV (2017) delivered from Amazon - the best small box solution out there at the moment. A bit on the expensive side but a superb product that has a great interface and can also play games

    I also swear by the Amazon Fire TV. A great small box with a ton of apps that is also easy to install apps from different regions on (BBC iplayer for instance). Not so good is the Fire TV stick - it's a bit under-powered

    I've tried various Rokus but they hard-coded the DNS into the US version making it very hard to use in Australia

    A Samsung Smarthub bluray player is also good for a device that you can pick for JB or TGG

      Avoid Samsung bluray players.

      Problems with many models with Netflix app. Delete function is not there and technical support awful. Have to get a country reset to get rid of Netflix app and reacquire which may correct it.

      Loads of complaints about it and vids on tube.

        That's interesting. I have an older model (had it about 4 years) and have no problem changing country on Smarthub

        Saying that, it's very rare for me to watch a Bluray or DVD now and hardly use the machine

      Vudu doesnt appear to be an option. There is a vudu for shield app but it appears to be exclusive to the shield.

      You can possibly sideload it or just cast from your phone

      I can track shipping as was given a tracking number, but so far my item has gone from Hong Kong to Geneva and is currently being processed by Swiss post.

      Seems a strange way to get to Aus. But a google search of "Banggood swiss post" shows that it isn't uncommon. It's probably to avoid tax or something.

    finally turned up this morning. been playing with it this arvo. It is a good media player for sure. Certainly a worthy replacement for my aging WDTV Live ! Also bought a $5 EU to AU type power plug adaptor from Kmart, thanks to the advice posted by others earlier in this discussion !

      Still not arrived. Still in Switzerland on tracking and Banggood won't resend despite agreeing to in writing.

      Another Banggood farce- they're not worth the hassle.

        Hmm it's replies like these that make me want to avoid Banggood.com. Would ALIExpress be any better? Or are all international sellers (besides Amazon) inherently risky because they operate outside Australian consumer law?

          My order according to tracking has never left Switzerland. 3 weeks now. Multiple emails to bangbad.
          Assurances not carried out. No progress. Waste of time because they wont deal with their problem, and will not supply the goods ordered despite what they have written to me. Its a gamble bangbad with bad odds currently. Buyer beware again.Their rep has disappeared again too.

          I guess you can't expect too much when shipping is free and that sale price.
