    Good price for G4 plus

Though G5 plus was just announced couple of days ago at MWC

    Specs for comparison here

You can decide if the upgrades are personally worth of waiting and spending more :)

  • Just bought the last black 32GB version from mobileciti ebay. It was listed at $340, the code brought it down to $306 and cash rewards will bring down a few more again. Thanks to the various OPs for keeping this one updated.

Great phone for the price, plus it's just been updated to Android 7.

  • Are these phones really that good? I need to upgrade my note 4 and have become used to the Samsung UI (and yes, even it's bloatware). Just want to know if I'll regret moving from samsung.

    • +1

Screen and camera will be a downgrade compared to Note 4. Performance should be okay for normal usage on 32GB/3GB version.
Also, how often do you use S-Pen?
This also lacks NFC for mobile payments compared to Note 4

    • +2

      I moved from a Note 3. My thoughts…

      • This lacks the SPen, something I needed to get use to, meaning no more fancy drawings in OneNote.
      • Less bloatware, feels more no-frills Android experience. I liked it.
      • The fingerprint scanner looks like a button, doesn't act like one. Annoyed.

No regrets moving across. Phone feels great, great battery life, love the basic Android experience. YMMV as this is all subjective.

    • Yep, a quick comparison of the features shows that the G4 Plus would be a step down from the Note 4.

      https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/motorola-moto-g4-plus-2gb…

I just bought the G4 Plus for my girlfriend and it's a very nice mid-range phone at a good price.

Vanilla Android without all the bloat is great.

About the only thing I can see that might catch people out is that there is no notification LED on the G4 Plus. But Motorola has Active Display as alternative https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/deta… (Actually there is an LED, but it's disabled. You can enable it with root, but that will void your warranty.)

  • Ugh, why not yesterday?! I would have paid the extra for local stock…

  • Difference between g4 and g4 plus is only the ram?

    • Specs for G4 and G4 Plus

    • +2

G4 doesn't have the fingerprint sensor and has a lower megapixel camera.
G4 Plus has the choice of 2/16 or 3/32GB. I believe G4 is usually 2/16GB.

    • +1

      G4 16GB/2GB ——> G4 Plus 16GB/2GB ——> G4Plus 32GB/3GB

The G4 is only 16GB/2GB option.

The G4 has a lower megapixel camera (13MP vs 16MP on G4 Plus), no laser focus (so G4 Plus focus is slightly quicker) and no fingerprint sensor.

      • Do you mean:
        G4 16GB/2GB < G4 Plus 16GB/2GB < G4Plus 32GB/3GB
        …?

        • Sorry just meant them as arrows, fixed now.

  • Anyone know how this would compare to an LG G3? Did a bit of Googling and they seem fairly on-par performance-wise, albeit, the LG G3 has a much better screen plus NFC. Need a replacement for the missus LG G3, but we aren't paying >$700 for a flagship phone!

WAF requires it to perform at least as "fast' as the LG G3, reckon the Moto G4 Plus 3G/32GB would fit the bill?

    • +3

A comment on that comparison here which may be of interest.

This is a good all round phone, it does everything well without excelling in any area or having the more premium features. It's smooth, bloatware free, has the latest Android and quite reliable from what it seems. If your G3 has 2GB of ram then 3GB makes quite a bit of difference (and unless you use very few apps at once or similar I think nowdays 3GB of RAM is a must for most users).

If you wanted something a little better and happy to pay $100 more maybe checkout the Moto Z Play for $427. The advantages of that over this G4 Plus are in the post. Basically you'll get NFC, USB Type-C, 4K video, slightly better processor, bigger battery thinner phone and more premium finish - but it's still very good value.

You could wait for the Moto G5 Plus which will have NFC (but not USB-C) and slighly better processor (same as the Z Play, guessing it'll reach here in a month or two and price wise high $300s to low $400s here at first for a 32GB/3GB model.

      Comparison of all

Just my opinion anyway, no expert but you shouldn't go wrong with the G4 Plus. Just a personal question of whether paying a little more is worth it for the extra features for Moto Z Play or G5 Plus.

      • Thanks for the detailed write-up!

The Moto Z Play would be perfect, but after being burnt on two grey-import phone (another LG!) and even an Aus stock LG, it's Aus Stock only from now on (and no LG)! All the local stock Moto Z Play seem $600+.

        Ideally want to spend <$500.

        • +1

Ah fair enough. Yeah the Moto Z Play's are way overpriced here. The best deal was $559 at TGG with a 20% off code, but 4 months later the price still hasn't dropped. $699 is ridiculous.

Can't really think of something else Aus stock that fits on Mobileciti or elsewhere. There's the Oppo R9 for $435 after 10% off code but that might be a little left field. Great specs for the price and 24 month warranty (Motorola in AU is only 12 months) but not everyone will like Android 5.1 + Color OS 3.0 on a new phone.

      • Moto G5 Plus which will have NFC (but not USB-C)

Checking the time circuits… yep it's 2017 - not 2007 (when micro-B was introduced.) What are they thinking???

Contemplating on grabbing the 32gb variant of this or the Xiaomi RN3P global version. Anyone have any suggestions? Haven't seen many deals lately for the Xiaomi which is why it's tempting to bite the bullet for the G4. Decisions, decisions…

    • +1

Recently got the rn3p. Very happy. Main weakness is camera in low light. Otherwise it's great.also it's difficult to get accessories

I think g4 plus is very good. Has local warranty and will be easier to get warranty.

The rn3p set me back about 240 with dhl delivery. Depends how much you would want to pay for local warranty and better camera

  • This or the Redmi note 4?? ! Hard times

    • I just purchased this one over Redmi note 3 pro to replace my lg g2

      • Can I ask what was the specific thing that swayed you? The Redmi note 3 pro has far better all round specs?

        • Guess it's just the looks maybe

Redmi note 4 vs redmi note 3 pro

Seems weird that some of the specs are better on the note 3 pro

        • @Gomo: And less Bands are available on the Note 4 as well. 3Pro got 700(Band28) and Note 4 did not…

        • @mewsik: true but that's just one band and only would apply to someone traveling outside to country side.. my current phone is a Redmi note 2 I'm with Optus and an Uber driver and rarely find any issues with mobile coverage,

The other option would be Vodafone Network that doesn't use band28 at all

        • I was deciding between these two as I wanted the B28 because I travel to remote areas, the local warranty, personal experience with Motorolas in the past, and hopefully proven English setup of the system made me to go with the G4. I don't want to fiddle with the system or ROMs.

  • Excuse my ignorance as I haven't used cashback before. The price for the 16Gb Motorola Moto G4 Plus is shown to be $259 on here, but is $287 on Ebay. Is the difference the amount that is refunded by Cashrewards?

    • +1

No, it's the price with the coupon. CR is not included in posts.

      • Cheers for that, but I can't see any mention of a coupon on here?
