Previous deal included 256 SSD and 16gb ram this is not that great.

    • +2

Agreed. Got the previous deal with above specs for $50 more…
To be fair, this is not terrible objectively, just the previous deal was better.

      Was this 16GB deal expired?

  • This and the e460 for same price atm ,which is better?
I can see this has a newer processor, older hard drive, but I have no idea what difference it makes in performance,i don't play games, mostly daily duties, plus viewing large photoes taken by dslr,my current laptop takes 3 to 5 secs to slide to next photo, sometimes freeze.

    • About 2/3rds the performance of a i5-6500 desktop processor, but 7-25W draw-down compared to 65 W for the desktops. Just like the O.P.,I'd prefer a swap of the rusty gyroscope it is using for storage to gain a little more power saving but it should still be a sprightly little beast once programs are loaded.

      • The e460 deal atm has i7 6500 cpu,it has 256g ssd hard drive.
how does it compare to this performance wise?

        • +1

On raw power, I usually use "passmark":

          https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-6500U… = 4430, 25 watts.

          http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-7500U+… = 5252, 7-25Watts, 15 watts typical.

So your processor is ~ 20% faster with ~ 60% of the power usage. Much of that lower power usage will be used up starting up the spinning platter on the hard drive when you want to use it, and the `dead-time' while you are waiting for programs/data to load. If I was contemplating the 2, a 256 SSD is about $120, which would leave you with a 1 terabyte drive you could slip into a ~ $20 USB3 external HD caddy, the screen is larger on this one, and the graphics also look a fair bit snappier.

The only reason I would get the e460 is if a 15.6" screen would be a little bit too much to lug around compared to the 14" For viewing photos, an SSD will make quite a difference…

For my photo viewing, I have the lenovo mix 700 which some of us grabbed for $600. Admittedly it's a totally different kettle of fish, being mainly a tablet with tickets on itself and a proprietary power supply, but also worth considering if your main aim is a transportable photo viewer - touch screen and a 12-inch, 2160 x 1440 display with stylus more than make up for it's occassional lag, hit and miss keyboard and the violence inducing lack of any way of turning off the trackpad's "touch to tap" in Window 10.

        • @terrys:
Exact answer I need!thanks.I don't think I have the capability to upgrade hard drive at minimum cost thou:D

Will get e460 and stuck with it for next few years.

My old laptop with intel core 3,running win 8,is it right if I install win xp or 7 it will perfore alright just for web browsing and video chat?atm it's very slow to view large photo, sluggish if I open more than a few windows,Im thinking if win 7 or xp would make it still usable for web briwsing and video chat,I could give it to my mum, otherwise I will get her a lower end one when she need it.atm she use a desktop

        • @028:
I'd be tempted to grab a 256 Gb SSD and try it in your old system first. XP will leave your system open to malware if you take it anywhere near the 'Net if you are not familiar with assessing and installing third party anti-malware programs. I'd grab a small SSD, put it in the I3, then wait until the end of August when the models for next Christmas's sales are announced and we get a wide-spread drop-out of older models.
Still, there is that nice new smell, 4 hours of taking out the zombie-ware and removing dead-weight start-ups and personalising a new system - and it is always the case that `things will be cheaper/faster later'. After an elderly [ I take it 3rd generation] i3, Win8 and a cob-web filled HD, either of those two systems and USB 3 for transfers will feel like greased lightning :-)

        • @terrys:
          will look into it.cheers

        • @terrys: >The only reason I would get the e460

Really? What if one has a much better screen or battery life than the other, surely that is a better reason for this user.

        • +1

@Diji1: Well you could do what I and the user clearly did, and look at the specs of both. If that is too much work, you could try reading what you are commenting on where the relative merits of the screen and power usage was specifically addressed.
You do realise that power and battery life are related?

        • The GTX950 graphics is a good feature

          @terrys:

I took your advice and put a 256gb ssd in the i3 laptop, what a difference,it's a beast for what I use it for.thank you!$104 made it like a ne laptop

        • @028: I'd done the same in an old Asus 2nd gen I5, after seeing the zing of a 720Q 2010 HP elitebook 8540p with an ssd. As far as office and browsing are concerned, it's a winner.

    • If you want something light and portable with a good battery life, you'd be better with a 13" or 14" notebook. This assumes you don't game. If you do some gaming, you'll want a decent graphics card which usually means a bigger and heavier machine. This 15" laptop with its GTX950M is such a machine, only just. Machines with 980M or 1070M graphics are better, but at a much higher price.

  • Do you guys think it is better to spend for this laptop, rather than almost double the price but much better looking Dell XPS 13?

    • Depends on your usage. This is more a mobile workstation where as the XPS is more for travel.

      • Well just to do work/study, around the house like kitchen/sofa/bed/desk. Sometimes (quite rarely) to work/study at the library or on the train.

Performance wise this is good eh? No bloatware? Easy to format and clean install?

Will it get too hot for the lap? Still want to have children…

Can you upgrade the hard drive or ram?

        • Your concerns are non-issue. Infact, if all you're doing is studying, you can work with laptops 2/3 of this price. Besides, they're usually lighter and have longer battery life.

Any deals on the T series?

  • Hi Guys,

Sorry if off-topic, but can anyone recommend where to look for thin/light ultra portable laptop with decent specs at a good price? I know i'm asking a lot but this looks great, its just probably too bulky for what I need it for.

  • 2.3kg 👎🏼
    No backlight key board👎🏼

    Otherwise I was a buyer

    • thats even heavier than i thought :/ eek

    • Most laptops in this form factor are 2.3kg.

  • Is there a better laptop in this price point for basic photoshop and video editing?
Looking for a laptop for my wife as her Sony Vaio from 2007 is no longer able to cope with her tasks.

    • +1

One thing i like about the Lenovo E5X0 range is their decent keyboard. Dell similarly has a good keyboard. Most others are rubbish near this price point.

  • I read somewhere that this laptop doesn't allow a one finger scroll with the touchpad… Does anyone know if its accessible on this laptop, since I'm not a fan of the two finger scroll :/

    • Really? This is your issue? This is what you are worried about?

  • Ordered this yesterday hopefully i dont regret it. Just needed cheap business laptop.

  • On the item page it shows$979?

    • As per the post. Use the coupon C10.

  • does this have an M.2 slot for an NVMe ssd?
