      Free for the first year

What on earth are you talking about…?
      Drugs are bad, mmkay…

      • -1

        Unintelligible ….

        • Yes, you are.

  • +3

Everyone probably already knows this but min spend ($2.5k in three months) still required:

Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $2,500 worth of eligible purchases (purchases which are not eligible to earn Points are described in the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward Terms and Conditions (PDF 1.67MB), for example fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes will not earn Points) within three months of approval to receive the bonus Qantas Points.

    • I'm just wondering if bills count towards eligible purchases? My car rego is coming up which will be about $700 plus car service $300 and comprehensive insurance about $700. If it counts then getting to the remainder of the $2500 is not that hard

      • +3

Do you mean Bpay? No! All the Bpay is not counted within that $2500(certainly cannot earn the Qantas FF points, either). I just consulted with their credit card service line.

        • +1

Unsure about the new cards. Old ANZ Black QFF cards could get BPay at the Visa rates (not the higher AMEX rate) although this assumed that the BPay biller accepted credit card payments.

      • +2

It counts but bear in mind that some billers may also charge you a service fee for using a CC. Not so common for VISA though.

      • +4

But if use the card number and CVV to deduct the money for payment, yes, it is counted.

      • You can pay all that on the credit card and it should count towards spend

      • That sounds like a new thing, I currently have the card from October application and I get points from Bpay. My bpay payments counted to the $2,500

You need to check on bpay biller site that they accept credit card, otherwise the transaction goes as cash from the credit card.

Then theres the issue of some billers accepting credit cards but charging a fee, I just realised Origin Energy is now charging a fee from bpay payments that uses credit card 0.37%.

        • This is really helpful, thanks. I'll keep an eye out on those fees from bpay using credit card. It doesn't seem like much and I think its worth it at least until I reach the $2500 mark.

        • @scizor08:

I think I'm on the old points system, where $1 spen is 0.75points

So still worth it if I was to take the points in cash.

      Things to spend on:

      • Prepay health insurance before the annual rise on 1st April
      • car or home insurance
      • Woolies gift cards (5% off)
      • council rates
      • +1

pre pay on your mobile phone or internet or utility bills, racking up a positive balance that will be drained with each bill?

        • +1

I don't see an issue with that. Topped up my Telstra account by more than what was owed and I got the Macquarie cash back for meeting their minimum spend.

      • If you can afford it, do what i did and buy 2.5k worth of gift cards immediately, the next month i had my points from ANZ. Now I just use the gift cards on my weekly shops.

      • @DonPablo how do you get 5% off woolies gift cards?

        • Cash Reward or Entertainment Book

  • Any idea of the qualifying income value?

    • +1

      $75k, says under Eligibility

    • From my memory 75k but i got rejected even when mine's way above that. Maybe because I have a few credit cards and home loans already.

      • Can be rejected for many reasons including length of employment (<6 months is bad), employment type (if not FT then you will need to provide a lot more details) or potentially because your ability to service the debt looks too risky to the bank.

I find that the easiest way to sort this out and to avoid the bank computer systems to automatically reject you is to apply online and when they ask for more details to be provided, physically go to the branch with all your details like:
        - past pay slips (2-4)
        - Any contractual documents if you are not a PAYE or are a BAS type contractor/self employed person etc
        - copy of your 2015-2016 tax return

I have been told a few times in the last 24 months that going into the branch is better as their banking systems can sometime give out a false negative to your application and so if you think you might be rejected due to some reason, just go to the nearest branch and it will be sorted.

I did this on Wednesday this week with Westpac and got my approval on Thursday. Fastest turnaround experienced for me.

        • Unfortunately this is online offer only :(

        • @tajid: yes. Apply online and when they ask for more supporting information you physically go to the branch to provide it.

        • @danielh: Got rejected by computer system after filling in all required information, after submitting the form (not at the stage where they are asking for supporting docs).

        • @tajid: Ahhhh. Yes you need to get past the first metaphorical door before you do the branch thing. Bit like applying for a job and they check your resume first before inviting you to an interview.

      • I got an approval automatically even my income is below 75k.

  • What is the approximate dollar value of 75k QF points ?

    • +5

$450 at the value of 0.6c/pt (approx value if redeemed as gift vouchers)
$750 at the value of 1c/pt (approx sell value on the points black market)
And a lot higher if you're going to compare to the equivalent QF business class classic redemption.

    • Also, the 2x Qantas Lounge Passes are worth ~$50/each. So definite value to be had here.

      • are people still paying that… I notice that the $50 hasnt' changed in years…

At the same time other lounges being free… I'd thought it would be devalued. The Sydney Inter Amex lounge is almost comparable

        • +2

Just sold 2 for 120 on Gumtree.

        • +1

Hmm. I find that I tend to use the QFF Lounge Passes when transiting internationally through Hong Kong or Singapore, which the Syd Amex doesn't allow. Although I do believe the new Veloce program enables some lounges in these airports.

All that said I wouldn't even think to compare the AMEX Lounge in Sydney to the International QF Lounges. The QFF lounges are a lot more spacious, have better food, have meals made on demand, and also have showers.

As for the price this differs a little depending on how long is left on the expiry.

        • +1

          @Yoz:

Been in the Singapore qantas Lounge, just awesome

But AMEX Sydney is just a 1 level downgrade from Qantas Sydney Inter lounge. Sufferable.

    • 1c per point so $750. Once you have the point just look for Tevs and he will sort you out on OzBargain. Do a search in the forums.

      • Yep and I meant Tuvz.

  • How is this any different to this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279129 ?

    • 75 QF status points are included in this one

      • What are those?
Edit: i just signed up to other the link 2 days ago - do you think I might get the status points?

        • +1

It's the same link as this one.

Just the offer has been updated after the last expired. This offer started earlier this week, so you would appear to have signed up to the new terms.

  • Does anyone know how strict they are with the 12 month rule (if you've held a card in the past)?
I cancelled a similar card with them around 11 months ago

    • Why not wait another month.

      • +1

All good i called them… apparently i closed my last card in Oct 2015.. i'm good to go :)

  • +7

ANZ are one of the first banks to be getting rid of their AMEX cards to anyone thinking about signing up.

    • +1

They upped the earn rate on the Visa to 1 point per dollar though so for most people who used both (a lot of the time when amex is extra fee or not accepted) it works out ok.

      • Yeah there's a lot to be said for having a high earn Visa. Most places accept Visa whereas Amex is still hit and miss

        • +3

I'd like to see AMEX finances.

The only reason I can see them making money in Australia is because they pay no taxes.

They've made a few big pushes over the last 15 years… nothing really effective. Too many stores/restaurants have a surcharge for AMEX.

        • +2

@Baghern: yeah I wonder that sometimes particularly given the >$1000 or so cashback and bonus points I estimate I've received from them. Then again I guess most people aren't 'professionals' like us and dont take full advantage.

  • Is the minimum one year of not holding any ANZ credit card requirement enforced in practice? I've heard mixed messages.

    • Yes, I have ran into that issue.

  • Is it 12 months since you last held an ANZ FF Qantas black, or any ANZ credit card?

    • +1

From the T&C: Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

      • This means ANZ adventures card should be able to be combined with this

        • This would be good news for me. Has anyone successfully applied for this offer whilst holding or having just cancelled the ANZ rewards TravelCard?

    • I had a non FF ANZ card already and I qualified ok. Trick is must be a non FF card!!

  • When does this offer expire ?

  • -2

I cancelled my ANZ card two months ago, do you think I would be eligible for this deal?

    • +10

      Have a guess.

      • To be fair he hasn't specified which ANZ card.. Could be a debit card for all we know LOL

    • Seriously???

  • From T&C, point 1, "This offer applies only once per eligible customer." I wonder what defines 'this offer'… it has been around for awhile so has it been the same offer all along?

    • +1

The 75 bonus status points is a new offer. It took a new black card on 1/3 and it didn't have the status credit but did have the 75k bonus frequent flier points.

  • Do you reckon this will deal exist around August-September…?
had previously QFF Anz one before

  • Just clarifying. Is there a 12 month period of not holding an AMEX card?

    • Well, I think we are all used to a 12 month period where you need to have not held that particular bank's AmEx card (which ANZ now no longer has).

I just had a look at their eligibility criteria and noticed that there seems to be no requirement about that.

Maybe they changed their conditions now. Here is what I saw on their website:

      • Be 18 years of age or over
      • Have a good credit rating
      • Be a permanent Australian resident, earning a minimum annual income of $75,000
      • Be a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum annual income of $75,000
        1. Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account. This is a limited time only offer available through online channels only which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.
  • Can you see when the offer is valid until ? can't seem to find the information

  • I am having a lot of trouble claiming my qantas lounge passes?

Who do I call i have spoke to QFF and they have no idea what I am talking about? I have received my 75k points already just wondering how I can claim the pass?

    • I think my wife just filled out something onof me and a week later we got the tickets via registered mail. Expiry December 2018.

      • Confirmed with wife. She called the provided number and got the registered letter about 5 working days later.

    • What are you having trouble with?

Its in the terms and conditions

      1. Offer only available to ANZ Frequent Flyer Black account holders. Account holders may request no more than two Qantas Club Lounge invitations in any 12 month period by calling the ANZ Personal Concierge on 1300 580 765.
      • +1

Thanks yeah anz told me the same thing! My fault didn't see that

  • Do most people just sign up for the year and then cancel so they don't pay fees? $425 a year seems expensive.

    • yes once you get the points you cancel then you can get it again next year ahahha

  • another 2 months to go to be qualified, i think i closed the card around May last year.
is there a way for me to check the closed date other than calling the CS?

    • I am guessing you don't have the letter from ANZ confirming the card closure?

  • I've signed up for this, and received/activated my card. I used to have an ANZ credit card, but cancelled it about 2 years ago. When I went to activate the new Black CC, I also opted to set up Internet banking. They advised I already had it (from when I was last a customer). Do you think the fact I've had internet banking, with no active linked accounts would mean I was still considered an active customer as far as the 75k points are concerned? Thanks :)

    • +1

I guess this answers my questions. Shouldn't be an issue. "Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months."

      • +1

        you know, youknow

  • To earn 75 Bonus Status Credits, you must apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card by 30 June 2017, be approved and then book and travel on a new Qantas return flight (excludes Classic Flight Rewards, partner or codeshare flights) between 12.01am (AEDT) 6 March and 11.59pm (AEST) 30 September 2017. Your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number must be recorded at the time of booking. If you change or cancel your flight and/or travel outside the specified dates, this Bonus Status Credits offer will not apply. Bonus Status Credits could take up to 10 weeks after travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards attaining or retaining Platinum One or Loyalty Bonus.

Am I understanding it correctly that to get the 75 status credits, i don't need to use the ANZ card to book the flight?
Just wondering as I can easilly book return qantas online for work but must be charged to work credit card.

    • I was wondering this too. It doesnt appear to enforce the use of the card, does it?
Interested to hear if you find out more on this!
