Eh, it's $3 cheaper than the norm. Better off buying from PCCG or Mwave for $1129, in my opinion. No way I'm buying something like this from Harvey Norman.

      Why?

      • +10

For the most part, because their customer service is usually pretty average and not particularly knowledgeable - even concerning everyday appliances, let alone a graphics card.

Plus I've had some bad experiences with them - had them try to weasel out of warranty returns (after they sold me a demo unit as "brand new") and my latest order from them was delivered in the flimsy product box (no separate shipping box), which was beaten and damaged. I wouldn't want to risk a graphics card undergoing the same treatment, and it wouldn't surprise me if trying to return this card under warranty for whatever reason were a painful experience.

Better to buy from people with a bit more integrity who actually know things, I think.

        • +1

Wow. That sucks man. I'm not a fan of HN's but I have to say, my experience has been exactly the opposite. And I'd much rather do a warranty return to a store that I can drive to than putting it in the post.

That really sucks though, I have a computer shop doing exactly the same thing to me right now and it's not a fun process at all. Especially for the price I paid ($600 for a high end motherboard). I can only deal with the computer shop by email and post though and it's just a completely miserable experience so far.

That's not good… though I'm not sure this deal would be any better. It's online only and I doubt you'd be able to return it to a store, as they don't stock more specialty items like this.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness: Should be able to. The whole point of HN's is that you can take stuff to the store for returns etc.

Just going by common sense on that one though. That HAS failed me before.

  • +1

Looks like i'm waiting for another HN Amex deal to upgrade..
$900 is USD converted so that's the most i'll pay for this card.

    • +4

Not willing to add $90 GST (since most Americans would be adding their sales tax too)?

  • +3

I really dislike this silly Gerry, he is arrogant and stupid and pretends to be the only business in Australia.

  • -2

That is how much I paid for my whole pc and can play most games at high settings

    • Half your luck, ive just bought a x34 predator monitor so want more frames.

    • +6

On 1080p? If so, your statement is nonsensical, you'd have to be a special kind of stupid to be buying this card purely for 1080p gaming. Apples and oranges.

      • When did I say on 1080p?

        • 1080p is the only res you can manage for a $1.1k computer at high settings, unless it was second hand.

      • Unless you're 1080P'ing at 165hz maybe. Then it's totally legit.

These things struggle at 4K though.

        • Sure, it'll struggle at 4k, but I think the point he's trying to make is that for the vast majority of gamers (~95% of users are at 1080p or lower, according to Steam hardware survey), something like a GTX1070 or even a RX480 is more than enough. Performance per $ is better in that segment too.

Basically, don't just get whatever's the best card on the market. Buy according to your needs, and to suit the monitor that you plan on using.

        • @SoresuMakashi:

Exactly my thoughts, don't even want to know how many people will buy this bargain because marketing makes them think that's what they need. Just to figure out that the rest of the hardware is nowhere close to as powerful

        • +1

There are 240Hz 1080p monitors but at that point there's no CPU fast enough to drive a 1080 Ti in all the new games.

        • @SoresuMakashi: ???? Or just let people make their own decisions. If I want a ferrari, I'll buy a ferrari. This is is a bargain site, not a 'spend your money wisely and only get what you need' site.

What's your best time in solitaire (beginner)?

      • +2

Pffft Solitaire, try Minesweeper. 8 seconds beginner, 31 intermediate and 92 expert.

          1. Are you serious?
          2. If so do you have your record times memorised?
        • @Hirolol:
          I had an exciting childhood…

    • highest settings so you can play 4k ultra?

      • Learn to read, never said highest settings.

        • So you can play 4k at high?

        • +1

          @Axelstrife:

          Never said/wrote that either.

        • -2

@dosada: "can play most games at high settings"

          yeah you did

        • +1

@Axelstrife: Where exactly do you see the 4K part?

        • -2

@dosada: where did you state it was anything lower?

        • +1

          @Axelstrife:

So it's normal to assume things that nobody wrote just because nobody said the opposite?

        • +1

@dosada: when you compare your pc with a GPU that is meant to play games at 4k yes it's right to assume this.

Im going to wait for 3rd party cards with better cooling. Reviews say this is noisy on 100% of time.
Hopefully price will mellow out some

    • +1

I'll be snagging an EVGA SC card when they're under $1,000 (I'm patient). Also the iCX cooler looks badass.

      • Yeh thatll look great in my closed case :P

      • +1

What about this one with three fans instead…?

        • I admit the FTW looks more badass but since I don't plan to manual overclock there's no point in going any higher than the SC model.

          @Arnor
I have a full window side panel but of course you don't see fans in standard orientation, always thought that sucked… Also I'm not really a fan of the side of EVGA's 10 series cards but I'm sure it would grow on me.

why buy this when theres a nintendo switch that is also portible and comes with a screen

    • Totally off topic…..

    • where do i plug the nintendo switch on the motherboard?

    • How do I play latest AAA game with amazing graphics on the switch?
      Silly billy.

    • why buy a nintendo switch when there's a chinese android phone that is also portable and comes with a screen

  • Can get this for $719usd via newegg, hardly a bargain at $1126

  • +1

What's the longest credit card price protection you can get, 2 years? What are the downsides to running a long game and buying cutting edge pc hardware when it's released and then claiming once it's been superceded and on sale?

  • A few days ago I went on online chat at Harvey Norman and I told the person I was Gery Harvey and I was with A Current Affair talking about how I (Gerry) have such great experts on webchat - everything was going swimingly and the guy was super firnedly and helpful…once I told him it was a joke he just cut the conversation off abruptly… treated me like rubbish afterwards.

    • That's pretty trolly. I do that everytime a new Samsung comes out and play with the phone and the salesman/women talk me through all the wise bang stuff. After a while I then go nah.. I like my iphone better.

  • Gerry just refirbed a major upgrade of the HN store in Bundaberg but ive only been in twice, purchased a dash cam one and will never go back.

Id wait for a 3rd party cooling solution 1080ti
