I've got one and does the DIY jobs I need it for with no problems

To be honest I don't think there are any good prices on ozito. So far whatever I purchased from this brand I returned either straight away or after short use and would never buy it again.

"Use carefully these can be dangerous."

I am glad someone mentioned this. Serious many people have been killed in recent times using angle grinders. Blades disintegrating (like they explode) with parts cutting the neck, head and body. If you think you need to use an angle grinder a lot, then you aren't using the right tool.

I have found the trigger switch is difficult due to its location. The larger unit seems to be more ergonomically designed. Makes a big difference to how safe these are to use.

I friggin hate using angle grinders. Obviously there's certain jobs that you need them for, but whenever possible I'd rather use a hacksaw haha

If you haven't used one before, focus on good quality discs & use the correct disc for the job. I think that's more important than an expensive grinder (though testing them, I found the smallest Makita had the most accessible switch, which I think is important for safety).

Excellent added comment. I for one will be keeping this in mind as I agree with the others - angle grinders are near the top of the list where giving the machine a LOT of respect and attention are concerned. Well said zen'. Good soul you are!

I have one of these and it is great for DIY jobs.

Agree that be absolutely careful when using one of this. Do not even think about trying to cut any wood/timber with an angle grinder.
Also, Keep the safe guard there. It is there for a reason i.e. your life.

      +1 to leaving it alone.

But I personally like smaller guards. Enough to stop my hand sliding into it, but small enough to allow hard angle cuts….
If only I had an angle grinder to make the safety guard smaller on my angle grinder.

Unless you've got one of these Aussie made bad boys http://www.arbortech.com.au/view/woodworking/

        Intriguing…

      • Most interesting, though unless I missed something from the link/website provided these are excellent for woodworking.
Not so sure anything there for (larger) branch cutting? Happy to be corrected though gents!

These are designed for carving, not cutting. The blade basically acts like two rotating carving gouges, taking shavings from the wood. Very quick and easy way to do things like bowls or sculptures.

        • @kapone: Suspicion confirmed - thanks.

Also always wear good quality eye protection!
I had one of these that I used to cut a dozen or so roof tiles.
The dust eventually jammed the switch, making it unsafe.
Bunnings gave me a refunded and I got the 125mm AEG one instead which has been great.
If you mainly cut metal then this should be fine.

A very handy but very dangerous tool. Eye protection is a must as is a firm grip at all times.
I have Ozito and Bunnings their other cheapo brand XU1 power tools and have found them to be very good.

I've always wanted one so might just pick one of these up. Just as glad to hear so many advising of usage and inherent dangers of such a handy tool. Pretty sure I had thought of using to take down a larger branch in the back yard, but thankfully one of the others said they probably shouldn't be used in this way. Guess I'll have to take it down with the good old bow saw :oS (I can feel my arms aching now).

Never give up hope…. a cheap one of those will do the job well.

        • I really appreciate that, had a look and would never have imagined using such.

          Many thanks siuol!

          Regards.

        • +1. Reciprocating saw… the tool for that job.
