  The only reason I would pay for an SSL cert these days is if I needed EV. If you don't need EV then Let's Encrypt will save you some money while providing some additional benefits. I wouldn't call paying ~$30 for something you can get for free a bargain.

    Yeah, you are right, EV SSL cost only $50.

    Let's Encrypt can be auto renewed if you ask your hosting provider to do it.

    Let's Encrypt is for a single domain, and expires after 60 days. That's great for the RPi sitting under my TV at home, but for a more professional site you'd be better to use a paid service.

      It is my understanding a Let's Encrypt certificate is valid for 90 days.

      Being free for a single domain means that it is also free for multiple domains. You can also set it up to auto-renew every 90 (not 60) days.
