    • also keen to know this

  • This or RYzen?

    • if what you are doing utilises multi cores efficiently the ryzen has 6 cores vs 4 in the 7700k. ryzen is also cheaper afaik

      • I will probably be using the machine for gaming.

        • I'm no gamer but from what I understand you should be more than fine with something like this. Maybe someone else can chime in.

        • Most games are fairly single-threaded and don't actually need much CPU power anyway. Ryzen doesn't offer any advantage, so it's a matter of budget.

This is a good gaming machine at a very reasonable price.

        • i7 has superior single-core to quad-core performance thanks to its significantly higher clocks (desktop and gaming usage).
Ryzen has superior multi-core performance thanks to double the number of cores and threads available (workstation usage).

  • What's a good monitor to go with this? Which one of the following would be the best ad an all rounder for games, movies, browsing etc.

Games.. Not sure open world games and third person shooters and possibly Fps.

Thanks for posting. I bought the version from the last ebay sale https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/296763

This is both a little better, and a little cheaper.

It hasn't arrived yet, and their customer service has been really good, and is going to refund and switch it for this version.

    • good to hear

Everyone is freaking out about the wattage of the PSU being 460W, but that's not the point. A Kaby Lake / Pascal build should not draw more than 400W even on full load.

The point is the reliability of the unit, and the quality of the components that it uses. Shit-tier PSUs struggle to deliver their rated wattage, have bad ripple control and in rare instances, completely fail. Based on my experience with pre-built Dells, I wouldn't have much confidence in the unit unless they can specifically tell me the brand and model.

With an i7 7700 and a GTX 1070, I'd want something reliable driving my expensive components. I wouldn't simply dismiss the concerns about the PSU just because 460W is "enough".

    A 460W Seasonic / EVGA PSU is very different from a 460W no-name.

Seems like Dell is now with Powerbuy rather than Cash Rewards. Edited. Was only valid for first 40 claims this offer. Mods please delete

Just checked with the support guy at www.powerbuy.com.au and he said the $100 cash back offer is still going. I asked if the limit had been reached and he said not yet and offer was still valid. I just purchased and submitted my invoice to them. So will bring the system down to $1719
There was a 3% coupon but it came off the original price (removing the cash-off discount). So don't use that

So for those of you who hesitated, now is another reason to pull the trigger!

    https://www.powerbuy.com.au/dell-xps-desktop-10/

    • good scoutin' boy

    • The code doesnt work? It just removed the initial discount and replaces it with 5% off.

      • You have to sign up to the site. Then just submit a copy of your invoice to them. there is a link to submit claim. Dont use the code that joining gives you. that removes the dell 30% discount and uses the 5%.

        • Thanks Sammy boy. I worked it out after I posted. Now to buy a monitor!

    • I'm a bit concerned. The terms are clear that it's limited to the first 40 only. Not sure if I'd have a leg to stand on if they decided not to honour the claim, even though a 'support guy' said otherwise.

      • Chat to them on the support pop up window and ask. I thought the same too, and he said no, still going and go ahead and purchase.

        • It's also asking me to select yes for "ARE YOU A Dell ASSOCIATION MEMBER?"

          Did you get that?

EDIT: NM, Chrome auto populated my name into the sales rep field.

        • @wizzlesticks: Don't remember seeing that. I would presume if the limit is reached that submit your receipt section would be removed, as that is all that is for

I grabbed one of these last night. Seemed like a good deal.

Not overkill for home office and the occasional game with my son online.

I Can claim on tax soon too :)

Now just need monitor and keyboard/mouse.

    $100 Cashback is nice :)

    Thanks OP.

  • Would this be overkill for some video / photo editing
Anyone who got one can comment on the fan noise levels?

  • +2

Thanks OP! Bought one last night. Have been considering a new PC for the last month or so. I work from home, and my current PC is from 2010, so this will be a nice upgrade haha. I almost bought the last version of this computer when Dell eBay had 20% off. So glad that I waited. Estimated delivery on the 18th of April. Can't wait! :D

Update: Just checked my estimated delivery date and it has now changed from the 18th, to the 11th of April.

    • +1

I'm getting increasingly jealous of people with an ETA of the 11th!

I ordered on the 4th to be delivered to the Brisbane CBD and though it is "In Transit" my ETA has not changed from the 18th :(

      • I'm in the same boat. I even called and they offered to "expedite" the order because of their ambiguous shipping info which I of course said yes to. And yet the date still says 18/04 and there are a bunch of people here getting there's changed to the 11/04 who orderes later and who I assume didn't even call. Ahh!

        • Mine says 21/4 lol.

What's worse is my monitor comes in 26/4 so I will just have to forget I bought it!

        • +2

This is my first time dealing with Dell, and I must admit I went into it expecting speedy delivery and a slick user experience. I've had anything but, so far!

        • @Raihoo:

Ok so 21/4 has now changed to 18/4. Sweet.

    • Any sign of it showing up today?

      • I am also looking forward to my delivery.

      • Mine is now with local carrier! Estimated delivery date of today which is unlikely as it's showing as being in Homebush and needs to get to Milton.

        • Still 'In Transit'…

        • @xjcs88: I have now recieved a Toll tracking number - it has no ETA on it, and only states "EDI Received" however has the location of Redbank QLD. I can only assume that it's still on its way from Homebush and will show a scan when it gets to Toll in Redbank. From there it shouldn't take long at all, but who knows.

Would be nice to get it before the long weekend!

        • @Raihoo: Yeah, hope you can get it before long weekend.

I just called Dell and was told my order probably might change status tomorrow. No idea how he knew it.

It is very unlikely that I am able to play with it during the long weekend. :(

        • @Raihoo: He also told me that these 8920 desktop were shipped from Malaysia.

So maybe it is because I live in Melbourne Victoria, which is farther away from Malaysia than QLD, haha.

I placed my order in the morning of 04/04, what about you?

        • @xjcs88: I ordered mine the same date - it looks like you cancelled your order and then ordered a different PC though? That will no doubt start the whole process again :(

        • @Raihoo:

Haha, it's a bit complicated. I checked the Dell website and found the CPU of this 8920 has been changed to "up to 4.2 Ghz".

While I do want to buy another gaming monitor, so I bought that last night, and planned to return the previous order the next day(Dell customer service dept was already off at that time).

But after discussion with Ozbargainers, I realised their CPU specs might be the same, just some paperwork error.

So I cancelled the new order (placed yesterday) this morning.

Having said above, I am still waiting for my previous order now…

        • @Raihoo:

Just got the email from their customer service:

          Hi Simon,

I called you after your email and spoke with Yuxi and explained her the status.

This order should have been delivered to you by Friday the 14th April since it is a public holiday on the 14th and the 17th April and 15th and 16 happen to be weekend the order is getting delayed

As discussed after your call for the ETA I expedited the order to have it delivered ASAP.

The order status will be updated tomorrow as the order was sent through Air.

Should you have any further questions please feel free to respond to this email.

          Regards

        • @xjcs88:

My order has now been shipped. Made its way to WA.. Now it just needs to make it to SA!

        • @xjcs88: Mine is on board with driver for delivery today. Woohoo! :)

        • @Raihoo: how did you check that? What would be on the tracking information to know that it is on board for delivery today?

        • @Raihoo: I am jealous.

        • @Aced21: I received a text message, and email, from Toll yesterday with my tracking details - it is, however, the same reference number that the Dell site gave me.

I am now tracking through Toll and not DB Schenker which has all the details.

        • @Raihoo: Ahh, okay, I didn't get anything from Toll or anything but rather only the link to DB Schenker. Looks like I won't be getting it today. :(

        • Received it today at 4:30pm - seemed as though it was a bit touch and go with the courier, but he came through in the end. Woohoo!

  • Should I get a monitor from Dell also. Or are there much better deals around ?

    • +1

Dell make fantastic monitors. Worth it to do some research into what will suit you etc.

      • Im trying to negotiate best price on the Dell P2416D monitor. They have it for $459 currently, but I'm seeing if they can do a bit better since some others are on sale.

  • +1

Yahoooo. I got it down to $350. I'll take it :)

    • I'm curious how you managed to do it.

    • Oh wow, all through just haggling on chat or by phone?

      • Online chat with customer service person. She was very helpful, although she did have to go check with manage, supposedly. And then I got sent a 'quote' email which I had to agree to. No problem :)

It was conditional upon also buying the PC, which I did last night, she could see the order in the system so all good :)

I just told her I forgot to include monitor, and that without a monitor the system is useless and I could get a similar spec with monitor for same price elsewhere but I heard good things about Dell and want to start equipping my whole office network and other businesses with Dell products if I was happy with this initial purchase etc…

        :)

        Cheers

        pookie

    • +1

Good to see you got it for $350, quick google of that model it sells for $336-$350 from iTspot, mwave etc, but plus shipping if you can't pick it up..

      • Nice :)

I'm pretty happy with the package.

My delivery says due on 11th April :)

Now need to repay my cc before i get slugged interest. I'm glad i had an unused 28 degrees card lying around with 10k to spare :)

        Cheers

Thanks everyone for your contribution to the post. Made me finally decide to get in on it. Hopefully I made the right choice and not regret not building it instead.

    • +1

The $100 cash back tipped me over.. Still need a monitor.

How long does it take for the tax invoice to come in people?

      • Apparently you can get your invoice online through the link they sent via email, only after order has been sent.

Yeah that $100 made me order it. So far I just reserved the cashback claim.

  • pulled the trigger!

  • Anyone has any update about delivery?

    • I noticed on the status page there is a section for tracking. Does anyone have anything in there? If it's in Australiani would assume it would have something. Not holding out much hope for delivery today tbh.

      • +1

My estimated date is 11/04, but until today there is nothing in Package Tracking area.

        • My estimated date is the 18th and the box is ticked as 'in transit', which is after 'shipped from factory'. However, there is no package information.

        • @Circly:

Same. But my order's status has been like 'in transit' since 06/04 and still no any information about the courier etc.

        • +1

          @Circly:
My order is 'in transit' with delivery date 18/04, no changes since 07/04. Funny about the 1-3 days shipping.

        • What is the status of your order?

        • @pzlxsh: still 'in transit', I cancelled it and bought the updated one.

    • +1

My status has only just changed this afternoon to "with local carrier". I have a tracking number but no tracking appears just yet. Was expecting delivery for today, but looks like it'll tomorrow now, hopefully.

Edit: Can now see tracking. Item also is in Homebush.

  • Ended up buying the U2716H to go with this desktop for $399 on the outlet store.

Its a 1440p screen but only 60hz. Will that be a big issue with the gtx 1070?

Also, noon question here: do I plug the displayport to the graphics card or the motherboard?

    • +1

Plug to your GPU port. Or you can only use your integrated Iris GPU which is much worse than GTX 1070.

      • Cheers. I can't wait.

  • +2

Don't know too much about computer but needed something with a bit of grunt - kids like online games. Heard some good reviews on this forum so bought one. Great job team!!

  • Hi everyone, since my order is still 'In Transit', I browsed Dell website and found they did some slight change to this Desktop.

Now the CPU comes with (up to 4.2 Ghz, which was 3.6 Ghz before), and they changed the Windows 10 from Pro to Home ( -100 dollors). They cancelled the discount but the offer came with a S2417 gaming monitor which is 144hz refresh rate.

After consideration, I cancelled my previous order and bought this updated one.

    (Sorry for my poor English)

    • I think the 4.2 is the Max turbo frequency. 3.6 is the base frequency.. It should be the same chip as previously.

      Still shows pro to me?

      • his looking at this listing the chip is the same 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.2 GHz), but comes with a gaming monitor looks to be end of life model, probably better off keeping the previous deal & buying a gaming monitor seperate

        • +1

I agree. The previous deal was $1819.. the monitor isnt worth about $700.

        • @Circly: $1719 if you applied for the cashback, each to there own I guess

        • My order shows 7th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.6 GHz) which is not the exact same chip.

        • Appreciate if you could help to check your CPU's spec.

        • @xjcs88: Im not very computer savvy but I think its the same chip going by intels specs, I dont see any other chips stating up to 3.6, I googled the chip you posted & all that say 3.6 then say up to 4.2 best someone else answers this, or double check with dell

        • @RogueWolf: Yeah, for my understanding, 7700 should be all the same.

But I chat with sales tonight, they told me Dell did a update on that CPU. Is there any chance that the salesman know nothing about it?

        • @xjcs88:

I'm fairly sure its the same chip as before. look at this link:

          https://ark.intel.com/products/97128/Intel-Core-i7-7700-Proc…

3.6 is base and 4.2 is turbo.

        • @xjcs88: No idea best call a few computer shops & ask, but I think it's the same

    • Made a mistake. This monitor has a refresh rate of up to 165hz.

      • Ah yeah that is a nice screen for fast gaming. The colours aren't too accurate though. But you are paying the full price for the screen as it costs about $700-800 anyway.

  • If you cant wait for your XPS Tower to arrive here are some manuals to tide you over:

    http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/xps-8920-desktop_Reference%20…

    http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_deskto…

    • Thanks for the information. If CPU remains the same, I would still choose this 30% discount one.

It's good that I haven't told Dell customer service to cancel my order, will wait and see. :D

  • So I went to check my order status and it turned out to be invalid via the link today. It was working yesterday. Does anyone have this problem? My ETA on the email says 20/04 but on the tracker (yesterday) says 13th. I hope it goes get delivered tomorrow so I don't have to wait on the long weekend.

    • Nvm it fixed itself. Got the shipping info.

  • +2

It's finally here! Gotta collect it at my AusPost.

    • Have fun!!

Please update us in your thoughts when you set it up :)

    • It is much appreciated if you could help to confirm this CPU spec.

  • +1

Apparently my Dell Monitor has been delivered.. Will check when i get home tonight. Now just for the desktop!!

    • Haha, you need to face to face with your monitor without a desktop. But still better than me, having nothing to look at…

  • Mine is out for delivery today. Just had an issue where tracking was showing delivered, but nothing delivered. No card left in the letterbox. Called Toll who stated that the driver said no one was home which is rubbish, as I've been home all day and also have a motion detecting camera at the front door. Operator said that the driver will come back to my house "again" later this afternoon to deliver. Hmmmm.

    • They always state that on one was at home.

  • Do we get any free games with the graphics card?

  • +2

Woohoo got it! And bought my Samsung27" CFG70. Excited to set it up. Good luck with everyone's delivery.

    • +1

Give us your thoughts after you have posted around for a bit!

      • It is awesome!

I don't know how to check what the turbo boost is, but in the system about section, it states 3.6 GHz base. Probably is 4.2 GHz turbo as earlier stated.
        Everything is fast as usual.

MacAfee is automatically installed with sub active.
Some apps from the microsoft store is already installed such as candy crush (other few games), twitter, facebook, etc.
Full Suite Office is already there, but you need an account and since i'm a university student it's free.
Seems like all the drivers are installed as the disk provided is only for reinstallation.

I'm currently just re-organising the directories of everything, and it is my first time doing a SSD and HDD combo. Everything will automatically install to the SSD so it is up to you on how you want to set it up.

The tower is actually compact. Small compared to my previous tower. you'd be surprised.

Any other questions? Just drop it down below.
