Contact their support in the app and have a little rant (without swearing), they'll probably refund you. Might even give you $10 credit as well.

      • +1

Yep, they have charged me $18 retrospectively for my order. I lodged a help ticket, we'll see how it goes. We can all complain with the ombudsman if they don't refund, I guess. I've taken a screen cap of my order showing the $0 receipt from the app.

    • There is no free lunch ;)

  • +2

Wow if I they had charged me after their bungle, I'd be very upset.

    • Check your cc app. Must of us have been charged full price

      • +3

I cant see how that is legal

        • Didn't uber start in most countries illegally?

  • +28

In true OzBargain style I ordered from nearby then went online and got the job to deliver it to myself, great success, thanks OP!

    • +1

I once tried this and ended up with a double order for other people who were in the opposite direction of where I live haha

    • +7

How was the service? Did you give yourself a tip?

    • HAHA I hope you used a different account at least..?

    • Brilliant

  • Ordered mine earlier when I saw this, getting delivery for 12pm today. Order is still showing with the discount luckily. Will see when it gets charged to my CC!

  • +1

mine still says $1 in the app, but i got an email indicating i'd been charged $31. left them a little message in their app and we'll see how it goes. even if the code wasn't supposed to be for this doesn't mean they can just change the charge after the fact. hopefully!

burger and wings don't taste as sweet when they cost $31 instead of $1 ;(

    • +1

Yeah just got a burger and fries for 34. Sent a message to see what they say

  • +1

Ordered 29 food + 5 fee = $34.00 applied coupon automatically and says total charge $4.00 in my app. Then my paypal get charged the full amount.

Just sent a screen shot into their support and see what they say. http://imgur.com/a/PNb7d

    • Same thing happened here. If I go to the app it still has the promo discount listed.

  • +3

Them deleting saved coupon makes me wanna delete the app.

  • While my order showed $9 after the $30 discount, it seems that Uber have decided to cancel the code and have charged $39 to my card. This will be interesting.

  • +3

I have been charged as well, even after it says the discount applied on the screen before i hit send. Not happy. If its been already been applied, they shouldnt be charging you.

  • +1

Just checked my bank account, have also been charged.

Considering I checked out with the promotion clearly displayed if Uber do not refund/proceed with the charge it would be disputable.

  • +4

Got charged full amount. Screenshotted the receipt, contacted their support. Will dispute with cc company if they don't play ball

  • -3

    Code doesn't work. Dud

    • what world are you in ahhaha :)

  • +1

    I don't look at OzB for 1 hour and i miss this… omg………………

    • +3

May not be worth the hassle. Most of us were charged full price if not all

  • Will be interesting to see how this plays out

    • +1

wonder what the cc companies will say if they get 200 chargebacks from this

      • +1

Don't merchants get blacklisted if they have too many charge backs?

  • +1

If you enter the code UBER580DANIEL - I get the message "Another invite promotion was already applied". So this is some sort of invite promo…

    • haha yeah I did the same thing, went through a few different names and also got that message when I typed in 'daniel'

The annoying thing, other codes such as a $20 one isn't working as it says an invite code was already applied. Even though I never got to use it before it disappeared.

Other codes I try to enter from other discount websites come up with the message 'internal server error'.

    • +1

The 580 George refers to Uber's physical office in Sydney, it's not a generic sign up code.

  • also got charged

  • +5

Order at 11.30, full amount of order was charged to PayPal account. I called them, and they refunded the money to my paypal account straightway.

    • May I ask who did you call? Uber or Paypal?

      • called ubereats directly, found number on the ubereats app

    • which # did you use? :)

      • +4

called 1800 839 152, found it via the app.

        • Thanks - called them and they were very helpful.

Ideal if you have screenshot but still refunded (credit card).

    • +1

I did the same and they said I had to email their support desk. Haven't heard back since. Not happy.

  • I ordered around 12PM and just checked my paypal and they charged me $1. Does that mean I got it free?

Or is is possible the full amount will come through later?

    • Full amount will come when you the food gets delivered.

      • Ahhh….ffs.

        • That's not that bad. I'm sure this will set a precedence on their own to do proper validation of coupons considering they are a multi-billion dollar company. I work as a junior-mid level developer and I still know better.

  • In the app on my invoice it says order $29, $29 discount applied, total owing $0.00 (hence a free meal).

But the email I got from them to my inbox says $29 charged to my VISA card.

  • Was charged $5 on my debit card (order total $30), but now cannot see that $5 on my statement through netbank (which was previously there). Will they later charge the full $35?

    • Have you received your order?

      • +4

ate most of it already :)

  • +5

This is the code Uber normally uses when you have a meeting at their offices (580 George St). Not intended for use by the masses!

  • I only got one of my 2 items… how awkward.

  • +2

    Phew…

I'm glad I 'missed out' on this 'deal'!

  • Call 1800 839 152 (thanks to bschick7)

Sounds like they are well aware of the glitch, and giving people refunds who call. Were very helpful, and they also ask where you heard about the code.

Ideal if you have a screenshot but I didn't and he still gave me a refund.

    • +2

Called and the guy told me to send email for refund lol

Ask to speak to supervisor. Same answer…

So i sent them email via app with ref no. hopefully it will resolve soon

      • same here. guy wasn't interested in helping and said he didn't have it 'on his system', better to submit via app. see how we go ;)

      • Sorry I should clarify- I posted via app first (they didn't reply) and then called up (and they already who I was by my mobile number)

    • +1

Got the same response as tinx, however I already submitted an in-app support email.

    • +1

where you heard about the code

      lol did you say Ozbargain??

    • Yep just called, they also told me to send message to support via either email or app.

Have just sent it via app, fingers crossed I get my $29 back.

    • I called up, they just redirected me to send an e-mail. I tried calling paypal as well but they couldn't help.

    • What are you suppose to say if they ask where you got the code from?

      • friend sent it to you. It's not your responsibility so don't stress.

      • +3

        From George

        • +1

What's his full name? Ahh… Uber George

  • Called them and asked if it'll in fact be charged normal price - dude confirmed it will but assured that by emailing them they'll sort out a refund. Hope it's true, surely they can't take back a voucher after its been used & paid for.

  • No valid promotions in my account anymore :( NO GOOD :( :(

  • I lodged an inquiry via the app explaining the situation, provided screenshots and asked for a refund but was denied. Not sure what to do now.

    • wtf

      • +1

"Thanks for writing back, fvn. I completely understand your concern regarding this matter. Let me assist you.
Upon checking, the UBER580GEORGE is a promotion that was sent to intended recipients only. Sorry to hear that your account is not eligible to apply this promotion. Just to set your expectation, we are unable to make any adjustments regarding this experience. We're really sorry to know that we didn't meet your expectations on this occasion and while we are unable to compensate you for this, we will evaluate your feedback and use it to come up with the proper course of action regarding your concern. Your input is a valuable contribution to UberEATS development. We're constantly working on improving our services, from the app to our delivery partners and restaurants.
Should you have any more concerns, feel free to let us know. Hoping for your kind consideration regarding this matter."

        • Just do a credit card charge back for unauthorized transaction. You have a screen shot of the receipt saying a payment of $0. As far as I'm aware the merchant gets slapped with a charge back service fee on top.

        • @djlee: Does this work with any bank? I didnt get a screenshot though. So how can I prove it? Honestly, their app is broken. If the code is not valid or if its expired, it should not be applied at all. They shouldn't be charging people at all after they've confirmed the total cost. I'm wondering if all the other 1000+ people that clicked this deal got fully charged as well.

        • @Orpheus:
Any credit card you should be able to, regardless of issuing Bank. Not sure about debit cards though. You should be able to go into your app and bring up the receipt to take a screen shot.

        • @djlee: The receipt in the app now shows the full price and there is no sign of any discount being applied (even though it definitely showed that it was applied at the time I placed the order).

        • +3

          @Orpheus:
wow uber is being so dodgy

        • @Orpheus: Give it a try anyway. Your bank works for you, hopefully they give you the benefit of the doubt.

    • Give them a call on the hotline.

      • +2

Gave them a call and explained the situation again. They told me that it's my fault I used a voucher which wasn't intended for me and that there will be no refund. When I asked to escalate it further the person said he's the highest authority and it cannot go any further. Pretty poor response by Uber.

    • +1

Ask them to show you where it says in the terms and conditions of the coupon that you were ineligible, as far as you knew it was.

  • +2

I've looked into this issue, and it appears that UBER580GEORGE is a promotion that was sent to intended recipients only. Int this case, your account is not eligible to apply for this promotion. Nothing to worry, you can still earn discounts by sharing your invite code to your friends on same country that must be a new UberEATS order. We will keep you posted for any promotions dedicated to UberEATS order. Cheers!

Are they for real? Upon checkout it said that the charge was $0 with the discount successfully applied. Yet they still charged me.

  • Yep, not working.

  • +5

Man I am so burned from this, thought I was getting a free meal and now in fact I have spent about a weeks worth of lunch money on 1 meal.

And I was just about to say UberEats tops the good old "DeliveryHero" freebie days.

Its fine if the voucher does not apply, but why say $0 on checkout and then later charge the customer, that is a big no no.

    UberEats, never again.

    • +1

Same. In fact the food is more expensive on the app than it is to go in store to buy it, and the store was only 500m away from where I was! Time for bread and butter for the next few days.

    • +1

Untill the next promo code anyway ;)

    • Charging people after the code has been accepted is disgraceful in my view.

Hopefully people will stop posting their stupid first order discount codes and giving them free promotion.

  • My girlfriend and I each used the code for lunch, got charged after delivery!

Used the contact us link on the app and screenshotted the receipt showing $0 total and then phoned up.

I explained that ''somebody'' just gave my the code, it applied ok and receipt showed $0 and if that there was a problem with it their system should not of have accepted it and I would not of have ordered otherwise. 2-3mins on the phone and they explained it was a ride promo only but they refunded us as a courtesy. quite easy to sort out for a free lunch!

  • +2

Take it easy guys, no matter what they say, it's their system fault. As being a consumer in Australia, just have to report it to ACCC and then they will get smashed.

  • From the app after I lodged a complaint:

"I've looked into this issue, and can advise that UBER580GEORGE is a promotion that was sent to intended recipients only. In this case, your account is not eligible to apply this promotion. Hope this clarifies the issue. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any other concerns."

    How did everyone else go?

    • yep I got the same response. Time for chargeback.

    • Same

  • +3

Just tried calling them 1 final time. Apparently it's a 'back-end app problem' and after 15 minutes on the phone with them, they won't budge.
Been on hold with the bank regarding the charge-back for 30 minutes. An influx of calls about this? lol
Update: I have to call back once the transaction has cleared. The guy recommended I provide the screen shot (since I have it), but it's not necessary.

  • +1

Has anyone tried to open a Paypal dispute since you didn't authorise the payment of $30?

    • +1

Why not be the first? :)

    • +1

I just did, will see what happens.

  • +1

Replied to their initial email stating unauthorised/will take it up with the bank, they sent a followup fairly quickly with the

"I am really sorry to hear that we didn't meet your expectations on this occasion and while we are unable to compensate you for this experience, we want to assure you that we take all feedback extremely seriously and will be following up with the appropriate parties to help ensure that this doesn't happen again."

Filling in the dispute form from the bank now.

  • You should be able to argue that because they employ word of mouth to spread almost all their coupon codes that you couldn't have known that this coupon wasn't intended for you, especially given that it successfully registered in the app.

  • +6

Got the standard 'we can't do anything' like everyone else. The receipt in the app clearly says $1.50 charge, going to fill out the chargeback with Bankwest tomorrow. Won't bother using UberEats again, cancel the damn order if you're going to charge more, don't just charge full price when the price on the app is completely different!

  • +1

    Chargeback citayyy

    • hahaahahah I laughed at this pretty hard

never done a chargeback before… I guess there's always a first for everything

  • +1

Wow. Glad now mine didn't go through. Uber and Airbnb a couple of operations that skirt legality in their dealings with their customers. Food is way overpriced and I feel they exploit their delivery people. My last was on a bicycle in the rain. No more orders from me.
