  • I'm sure that we will see some more of these sometime soon.

All of "the ones that got away" say "SOLD OUT' even though there are products that are not sold out. Unfortunately for some the offer expired before they could buy.

  • Received my notification that they sent mine a few hours ago, Along with tracking number. Say's it will take up to 9 days to deliver.

  • Got same email on Aug 27, "Your order XXX has been dispatched with Australia Post. Please allow 3-9 business days for delivery." and received this morning. pretty good delivery, thanks COTD.

  • mine rocked up thi morning

  • Just had my one delivered (Melbourne).

  • Same! Go mine today! wooooooo! So fast!

  • Is anyone elses gone into loop or configuring system on the boot up, restarting the pc and then doing the same again?

    • Yes, initially I thought it's infinite loop of rebooting but apparently it is installing something. After more than 1 hour, win 7 is up n running and I checked the program list, goodness me, lots of crappy software has been installed.
SQL server, trial version of Office 2007, 500MB of corel DVD creator and lots of Toshiba crapwares are amongst the apps, no wonder it took more than an hour. What a waste of time.

  • oh and we have 2 of them by the way, both donig the same thing. starting windows for hte first time message comes up goes into it brings up the toshiba configuring crap reboot rinse and repeat, must have done it atleast 10 times now on both machines

  • Same! I cannot boot into windows…. It's doing a "Initializing the partition. Please wait…"
And no CDs or DVDs at all ! :(
Looks like I'll have to install my own copy of Win7 64 when I get home….
    *sigh

EDIT: Now it is recovering files… Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Yet I didnt put any recovery discs in… Strange…

  • I think it just restarts the pc each time it is installing some software.

  • ok after doing all that stuff the system boots into win7

    Yay!

I had to stop the program running when it loads the win7, and removed the bat file in the startup folder.

  • will try to put hackintosh on or repartition and clean install win7

  • ok this is shit.. im gonna re install win7 when I get home…

laptop works but some settings and drivers dont…

  • Anyone seen a good bag for this laptop?

  • Still awaitng mine.. anyone in Sydney already got one?

    • Yep Im in sydney and I got mine today.

NO Install or recovery cds! :( Sux!

    • I'm also in Sydney n got mine yesterday, Monday.

  • has anyone noticed webcam quality is really bad?

  • must say - quick delivery.

mine still installing crap, taking ages.

There is a recovery media creator to make your own install dvd.

  • aw what, my status says its still processing so not even on its way :(

  • Mine still says processing too
Is the version of Windows 7 installed 32bit or 64bit?

  • You can choose either 32 or 64 when you first turn it on and run the recovery or installation.

My one seems to be working fine. Same with my brother's one. Happy with price and delivery and item so far :)

  • Mine still states processing too (from Sydney). I did make my order with 2 hours to go on the deal so maybe that's why.

I am glad to hear others are enjoying their purchase. Can the person who mentioned Hackintosh provide some links? How well does this laptop run OS X?

Were other people gutted to find out that Hardly Normal had another great laptop deal after COTD? i5 processor, 1GB GFX and 500GB HDD: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30387

Would have been using it straight away as well. Oh well, that happens sometimes. Still a good deal and no doubt I will be enjoying mine soon. Sucks to hear about the crappy version of Windows.

    • Toshiba is (usually) more reliable than Acer, at least that's the general concensus.
So, I have no regret buying it. However, this unit is not that Linux-friendly. I manage to install Ubuntu up and running after recompiling a new kernel.I might try Hackintosh later. :)

    • Yeah was a bit cut considering I could have walked in and grabbed it. HN actually exists in my town! Oh well, let's hope they ship our Toshibas soon!

  • I went and had a look at the HN special. Looks ok. Does miss out on bluetooth & estata. Have read a few reports of Acer machine getting rather hot, but no direct experience.

Still waiting on my Toshiba (still pocessing and I bought b4 3pm). Bit disappointing when I could have picked up a machine at HN and been using it by now.

  • Wish everyone got their order delivered, does anyone know how to switch between intel and Ati graphic card?

  • Still not received here. Still showing as processing. Nearly 10 days and not left the warehouse.
With tomorrow being Friday looks like a few more days :-(

Email enquiry may be answered in 24-48 Hrs. Great.

  • For me, the Order Status changed from processing to Dispatched yesterday (01-Sep-2010) and I got an email with a tracking number. However, the tracking number shows "Manifest received" and the email explains:

"Your order may be marked in Australia Post's system as "Manifest Received". This means that your order has been assigned a tracking number and is ready to be picked up. It may take a few days for the parcel to begin moving through Australia Post's system".

Does this mean I am likely not to receive notebook tomorrow i.e. until early next week? That sucks considering some people have received their notebooks on Monday this week and others have to wait 1+ week longer?

  • Hey guys,
friend just got his and it came in a box, no receipt, no information about extended warranty or anything.

    Are we missing something?

    Thanks!

    • Just picked mine up from the post office. Mine also came in the original Toshiba box with no receipt and extended warranty documents. Just log into your COTD account and print out the invoice (which also states the extended warranty).

So far so good. I am just restoring the laptop to factory default now to see how horrible it is. Judging by the previous comments, looks like I will be reinstalling Windows 7

  • Got mine today as well
    taking hours to installllllll

  • I ordered this and have not recieved a thing from COTD . Not even an email . The money was taken from my Paypal account but thats about as far as they seem to of got . I think I'll try and give them a ring on monday .

  • Still "processing" grrr.

  • Mine says despatched but I have not received an email with the tracking number or anything.

    I just want the lappy.

    • Edit that:

I received mine today! Happy days, hopefully.

  • Mine received today, at last

  • Also received mine today.

  • Has anyone who has received their computer worked out the switchable graphics yet? It is beginning to look like this notebook does not have switchable graphics and it is not listed on the Toshiba spec page. The only listing in device manager is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5145.

    • I believe it automatically switches to the integrated graphics (CPU) when not running anything graphics intensive?

  • So the deal is back again

  • +1

Just got off the phone with Toshiba Support 13 30 70.
Very nice tech took my notebook details, my question about Hybrid/Switchable graphics option for power saving, went away and came back with the information that the Intel graphics are only accessed when in "Eco Mode" which is one of the power settings/plans.

Go to Control Panel/Hardware & Sound/Power Options and there you will find options for the power plans and Eco Utility.

He did confirm that this machine does utilise the Intel graphics in power saving plan.

Hope this helps clear this up for other owners, I am much relieved. :)

    • Thanks for that inrez. Good to know.

  • Deal is back again!
