        • @Dud: I also wanted to sell/transfer my old sim instead of just changing plans.

        • scratch that, seems the prepaid plans transfer also transfers the number. I don't want to lose my number.

          @Mahalo:

Not sure about that one mate, sorry.

I know within Optus.com.au, there are options to transfer ownership. Not sure how you will do this within Woolies website………

          Good luck either way.

@Dud: thanks mate. All good I will have a chat with them. Cheers

@Dud: So I called up Optus today. The $20 month broadband bundle discount has been removed and no longer avaialble. I will be staying with my Woolworth plan as hotspot for an extra $23.76 a month is not worth it.
However what really p1s$ed me off was that I currently have the following Optus Cable broadband plan:
          $90 a month
          unlimited internet
          unlimited land line calls
          unlimited 1300/1800 numbers
          unlimited mobile numbers
          all the fetch tv channels
          speed pack
and they said the NBN is now available on my street. Soon they will force me to choose one of their NBN plans that I don't get the above unless i pay about $40 more a month.
If i dont sign up they will just cancel my contract. this sounds dodgy as they are forcing me to pay more for what I already have for $90. I dont mind moving to NBN as long as I still get everything i have now for $90.

        • @Mahalo:

Optus have recently been in the media regarding this, forcing customers onto NBN. Google it, as there will be many article around this. Here is a link to get you started….

          http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/optus-cutti…

From memory, i am pretty certain that they cant force you. I believe as a consumer, you have a "grace" period to swap across to the NBN…which is around 12 months once its available.

I think NBN is a joke personally. I was with Telstra prior to moving house and paying $39.99 per month for ADSL2+ with 200gig of data. WHen i moved, Telstra advised that i need to switch to NBN…..but failed to tell me that i will be paying $80 per month for the same plan & speed….what a Joke!!!!

I ended up going with Belong, paying $55 per month for 100gig and 12Mps……… in other words, paying more for less……..

If your not happy with Optus NBN, take a look at this provider…..seems ok if your willing to go contract yourself for 12 months. Looks like no speed pack is needed. YOur on their fastest plan.

I have Googled them and its hit and miss when they first started up late last year however, seem to be getting better.

          https://myrepublic.net/au/

          Good luck!!!

        • @Dud: Thanks for the info, they mentioned that because of the government I will be disconnected. Its a bit annoying. I started a forum topic and seems that some people here on ozbargain were affected but some have managed to keep their existing plan and just move to the nbn.

Thanks for the recommendation too I will have a look.

        • @Mahalo:

          Hi mate,

This was in the media today. It may interest you…….

          http://www.news.com.au/technology/online/nbn/australians-ign…

You will need to find out how long NBN has been available in your area, and give yourself 18 months to migrate across. Not sure if they can "force" you to migrate within the 18 months…….

          Thanks,

        • @Dud: thank you. I would gladly swap now but unfortunately is not the nbn but Optus over price and ripoff plan that is the barrier at the moment.
Why would anyone want to swap for exactly the same service they have now on Cable to NBN and pay extra $44 a month.

        • this is the forum post I added yesterday: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/303847
Matter is with the TIO they have give Optus a couple of weeks to contact me and fix the issue.

          @Mahalo:

          Good luck with that mate.

        • @Dud: thanks!

  • Would this one or the unidays telstra deal be better?

  • This looks good. Does the 12 months revert to single month charging after? And if so what is the normal price?

Currently on amaysim for $49.95 for the 9 gb a month. obviously if I can get 12 for $10 left why not?

It did bring up an interesting issue though - my current xperia z3 was owned outright. Coming from my student days with phone plans and not paying for my phone, I was having a look at optus plans and trying to do the maths i.e. $85 plan plus $9 handset repayments. So essentially $44 more per month for a Samsung s8 for example.

Just curious if anyone had experience with a new optus mobile phone + sim plan and whether they remain locked for overseas travel sim cards, or do they still unlock it for you without a fee (only after 12 months) ?

And also how good the whole $99 to trade in for a new phone/plan is? Wonder if this works out better than holding an old phone, selling it, and buying new. Back in the day phone plans were circa $40-60 for me for the 'latest' Samsung at the time i.e. Samsung s3, htc one etc, so we've come along way with some of these phones costing a heck of a lot more.Somehow buying outright seems to no longer cost more than a phone + sim plan??? Times changed??

    • Yes, after 12 months it reverts to a month-by-month charge.

  • On another note I Only just bought another $50 recharge voucher for my amaysim… does anyone know if one can order this mid may before the cutoff and have it activated end of may closer to the end of current plan?

    Thanks

  • First time commenting on OzBargain and have signed up to recontact to this plan since my plan expires next month. I contacted Optus if it was activated or if I needed to do anything and the customer service lady said that it's activated today but I will only have 10gb this month and will get 12gb next month. Not sure if any of you all are having the same issue?

  • Cheers OP! Signed up after my previous $40 10GB plan expired. Something to note, in My Dashboard it somehow shows I have 20GB for the month. That is rather odd, but I'll take it.

    • +1

This has happened to me in the past it is combining both plans for some reason and you get to use 20GB for this month, next month it will only be 12GB.

  • I was waiting to upgrade my phone/plan later this year so I was going to switch over to a $50 month to month instead of the $80 I'm currently paying. After speaking to live chat he suggested I go on this $40 12 month plan as there wouldn't be any fees to upgrade to a new phone/plan in 6 months time. Anyone else heard this? He said it's not written in the critical information summary but he "assured" me I wouldn't be charged any fees to switch over to a new plan in 6 months time.

    • I'd be curious to get this confirmed too. I want to get this plan as it beats my amaysim $49.95 for 9 gb… especially being same network. THe free spotify streaming makes a big difference as apart from facebook this eats up data.

If only you could stream Netflix, anime, western and Asian drama apps, my life would be complete.

That said. I need a new phone soon, this one isn't going to last too much longer, and 16gb internal storage is a PITA. If I could take up this 12 month plan and change over to a sim + phone plan without extra charge that'd be great. My only worry about not taking it up now is all they have for latest phones are the soon to be released S8's, so not only are the handset repayments high, but not enough info out there on how battery and day to day use is. DOn't want to be stuck with a dud. My s3 had horrid battery life. After I got my xperia z3 new, the 6-8 hours screen on time with web browsing was llike being reborn haha. Can't go back now!

      • Yeah I'm waiting for the Note 8 or to at least see what the new iPhone is like. I'm going to try speak to another live chat rep tonight and see what they say about it. :)

Can i get this price matched at Officeworks?

  • When I try to sign up through the student hub with a student discount it doesn't seem to be providing the extra 2gb of data. The student hub's plan seems to be different, it states there 8+2gb of data being provided instead of the 10+2gb.
Are you also able to apply the student discount to multiple numbers that are on the same account?

    • yea that's what I have found too with student hub selection, its actually less

  • Have there been better plans released in the last few weeks since this was announced?

  • when is this promo ending?

  • Isn't this deal obsolete? There is a 15G plan for $40 now…
