"TP-Link's Archer D7 is a networking do-it-all for your home. It packs an ADSL2+ modem, Gigabit Ethernet ports, and, most importantly, fast wireless in the form of 802.11ac with a rating of 1300Mbps. As is usual with TP-Link products, it represents good value for money thanks to its ability to supply steady ADSL performance and quick wireless transfers.
Physically, the Archer D7 has a slick, black outer skin, and it's equipped with three external antennas that are tall and detachable. It looks stylish overall, and we like the central array of indicator lights, which are white instead of bright blue. But its glossy black finish can be tarnished easily by fingerprints — clean it to keep it looking good after you're done installing it, especially if you're putting it in the lounge room.
The main quibble we have with the router's design is that it's constructed out of lightweight plastic. Connecting a full complement of Ethernet cables can leave it leaning back a little, which can be annoying. We also found the antenna on the right side to be a little too loose for our liking." Ok, thanks updated. Am getting the hang of it :)

    • Don't TP link have the Archer VR600 (AC1600) to supersede this model now ? and if you want faster speed beyond the VR600, there is a whole new series of VR modems and routers ?

  • +1

just a note. those getting an archer d9 instead though not as cheap as before come with a wifi extender from tplink as a promo.

  • Brought one 3 months ago to replace 8968 from these guys - bad mistake, most unstable modem is ever owned. Not futu problem but it was completely freezing every 2 days - no wireless,no adsl, no Ethernet.

Only thing that works was power cycle but no new firmware - put 8968 back in and stable as.

    • I don't suppose you've got an XPS13 laptop? My D7 was rock solid until I got one and it appears to be a known incompatibility. Thankfully NBN had arrived so time go replace it anyway.

      • No, it was freezing on everything in the house, tablets, phone, laptops it all caused it to freeze.

        • Then I'd say it's faulty? Have you tried warranty replacement?

Any similar router options for Cable users?

Can anyone who owned/used Billion Bipac routers comment on these TP-Link Archer D7/9 vs Billion routers? I have an old Billion 7800N modem/router that has been working fine for several years now, but recently started showing wireless problems. They used some shitty glue on the main board of those old units that turns into a gunk that you have to scrape off if the wireless dies. Did that and it's working now, but I am thinking to buy a decent modem/router and not rely on the old one for too long, if anyone can make any suggestions.

Do you need a modem or just router?

      • A modem router, one that has both capabilities. I thought these Archer D7/9 have that, no?

    • +3

I have been using an Archer D9 for the better part of 2 years, having had a Billion 7800N previously. Find it rock solid, with good wifi speeds and reception. Have pretty high upload and download p2p usage too + online gaming, which I imagine would be pretty taxing; never have to reboot the modem or anything like that.

I might get the D9 then, since TP-LINK is offering a free wireless extender with a purchase of the router. Thanks.

  • Does d9 have bandwidth control feature?

I'm Choosing between d9…netgear orbi and ubiquiti amplifi.

  • Anyone have comments about netgear d7000 vs tp link archer d9?

    • You won't go wrong either way. Which one aesthetically looks better?

      • Personaly I like the look of the tplink but i prefer the tech\feature of the netgear.

I heard the wifi performance is better on the netgear.

  • Damn just bought the Archer VR400 last week for $119

  • Anyone recommend a router which is wall mountable? Appears the d7 and d9 are not.

  • The link just goes to Ebay home page

You can get these from wireless1 cheaper delivered
(not sure if they've changed prices because of this ebay discount)

    d9 - $200.97 https://www.wireless1.com.au/tp-link-archer-d9-wireless-ac19…

    • Yup, the d7 is cheaper here if you don't use cash back but if you do its final price is $117.25, I will update the post. Thanks to the recent price drop you can now get the d9 for $188 at Futu_Ebay.

      • Does d7 have bandwidth control like dratek?

      • Price for d9 on wireless1 is now $178.20
Mamaged to price match with ow - price $169.29

        • Dont forget to claim your wifi extender from tp link.

  • Does d7 have bandwidth control like dratek? Anyone?

    • Yes, it does have bandwidth control but I don't if it's like Dratek.

  • Now you can get the D9 for $180 or for $177.10 with cash back.

  • In looking at the T&C's of the free wifi extender, I cannot see where it specifies that Futu Online eBay store is OK. Am I missing something?

    • I thought futu online and shopping express are one and the same? Is shopping express listed?
