HP equivalent in stock at same price?

Apparently the HP has 320w PSU instead of 240… Bonus!

Only 9 in stock so cbf posting, but if anyone else wants to post it feel free.

    • does this one performs at the same level http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-Elitedesk-800-G1-Intel-i5-4570…

      • Slower processor, faster storage for quicker boot and program load times but slower running demanding applications and games.

        Pros:
        128GB SSD ($50 new)

        Cons:
-20% CPU performance (both still great)
-50% RAM ($40 difference in value)
        No 500GB drive (~$30 refurb)

The one you linked needs +4GB RAM (~$40)
One I linked needs an SSD (~$50*)

The CPU upgrade (or spare old HDD) needs to be worth more than $10 to you for the one I linked to be better.

*More for good SSD, but ~$50 to be on par with SSD in other machine.

Edit: The comment above summarizes it in a less technical way. If you don't plan on doing any DIY then their comment covers it best. My comment assumes the user wishes to do DIY upgrades in the future.

Edit2: The one you linked has windows 10 pro installed with a Windows 8 COA if this matters for anyone. One I linked is windows 7.

        • very particular details, like it! I've done like more than 100 PC assembly for friends, family, company and myself, even joined an OC team. But those were 5 years ago, I am no longer an enthusiast :D

    • I believe the HP 16GB max is just the old/original specs on release as it has 4 RAM slots so it should also support 32GB and it appears to be slightly lighter and smaller physically so I think it is marginally better. Bought one.

      • Both are same size according to specs, but these same specs also list the g1 as having a DVD-RW drive when there's visually no drive in pictures….

Sorry, I meant for the Elite 8300 - thread indentation lost in the crowd :-)

    • I believe the Elite 8300 320W PSU is for the CMT form factor model, the SFF is 240W. Hopefully it will still be able to handle a 75W 1050ti LP graphics card.

      • 320w would've been a lot more comfortable, 240w is pushing it. Remember these are refurbs so the power supply may not even be up to 100% standard. If it's 240w I'd recommend not adding a GPU as you'll be nearing 200w full system load on an old 240w PSU. If we assume the PSU degrades down to 85% (204w) from the use over the past few years and future use, you're right on the limit.

        • Doh! Already bought both but thanks. Fingers crossed.

          @samlor:
Let me know how you go.. I've bought the HP as well but not decided on the GPU yet.

        • @Obey: It seems to be OK playing Tomb Raider and gets 7054 on PassMark 3D graphics benchmark. I intend to check consumption at the wall outlet with a domestic power meter to gauge whether I am pushing my luck with that PSU capacity.

Does anyone know if the 1050ti LP will fit in the HP Elite 8300? Here's the link to amazon which has a pic inside the case.

no reason it wont, it takes low profile cards.

  • Not too sure if anyone here realizes this but there are no wireless wifi capabilities to these machines and theres not enough pci ports for both a wireless card and a graphics card. Its either one or the other…

      USB adapter solves that issue.

  • When are you getting more of the i7 Dells?

    • Not too sure, we will update again on Tuesday if available (public holiday in QLD on Monday)

Unfortunately in this industry we do not have the luxury of picking and choosing.

    • similar spec i7 HP (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182483609641)
not as good as i7 Dells, but 2 in stock at the moment

Bought a HP the downside is you can't use your own PSU as the HP board has propieteray connecters. 240w will suit my purpose for now.

There is a guy who makes a converter cable in the UK to use your own power supply and as soon as he makes more in the next few weeks and they come in stock I'll be ordering one (they aren't cheap last sold at around 48 aud posted and they go out of stock quickly)

    • Pretty easy to modify yourself
      Simple atx protocols

      • Do you have a product or how to link or something?

  • I managed to get an HP, all gone now

    • received mine, installed CentOs on it, it's pretty fast, a big step up from my i3 desktop and i5 laptop

  • +3

I just tested my own Optiplex 9010 SFF:

20W idle, 70W max at the wall running a stress test.
I think the 240W power supply and cooling system can cope with a 75W graphics card easily.
Physically fitting it in is the only issue.

  • How many USB3 ports and SATA ports in this?
