MSY Deals - TP-LINK Archer D9 ADSL2 Router + USB Wi-Fi Combo $180, TP LINK PowerLine AV200 Kit $39 and More

210

Outstanding price for an Archer D9. Do note that it does NOT do NBN Node (VDSL).
It is a high end ADSL2+ modem router and it does not do voip.

Bundles You can redeem a free USB Wireless AC adapter, looks to be a AC1200 version.

NB You can get it for slightly cheaper from Futu_online using CashRewards thanks BrodenIt

The TP-Link powerline adapter kit is also cheap, but slow… good for people still on ADSL2+ connections but not suitable for those on NBN networks. Reviewed by some peeps on Whirlpool

  • You can also get the D9 at Futu_Ebay for the same price and if you use CR cash back you should be able to bring it down to 177.10.

Wait this Msy deal comes with a free usb wireless ac adapter but you should also be able to get a free WiFi extender from this promotion:

      http://www.tp-link.com.au/April-Promotion/

So it should be cheaper here if you want the extra Wireless usb ac adapter.

Edit: Already mentioned below by Cloudie9

I thought the current promo for D9 is free RE210 wi-fi repeater? http://www.tp-link.com.au/April-Promotion/

The wifi usb could be instore special?

    • What I'm thinking is that if you buy the D9 from Msy it should come with a free usb wifi adapter but you should also be able to claim a free WiFi extender here http://www.tp-link.com.au/April-Promotion/

That would be cool if you can get both.

  • Just a warning for those looking at the D9, I couldn't get it working with FTTP NBN.

    • +1

I did. Do you need any assistance with setup? I will be going to work pretty soon though, so expect some late replies.

      • On closer inspection I have the Archer D7, my bad. Thanks for the offer though!

        • shouldn't it just be an ethernet cable to the WAN port from the NBN box?

          Perhaps its a crossover cable?

        • @bobbie34567:

No you need to change the operating mode from ADSL to router.

And then set up either Dynamic IP or Pppoe if your ISP requires it. Most of the time it's dynamic ip in which case it's basically plug and play, but for Pppoe you must have username and password.

        • @scrimshaw:

Did all that (it was pppoe), still could never get it to work.

        • @scrimshaw:

Wow, not sure how I got my other ADSL router to work with it then, I just plugged in the WAN port and left all the other settings as before when I was on ADSL. Pretty sure I didnt change any setting to router only mode.. Billion brand here so maybe it differs between brands.

Worked fine until it started getting flaky.. so I swapped it out…

        • What might be going on is that your D7 and the FTTP modem are both trying to assign IPs.

You need to either turn off the DHCP at the modem or the router. With FTTP if the connection coming out of the modem is LAN, you need to turn off basically all the router functionality and set it to wireless access point only.

        • @nairdajun:

The D7 was definitely on wireless router mode - still wouldn't work.

        • @nexus4: "Wireless Router Mode" doesnt mean anything. If anything to me it means that the DHCP is switched on.

Two devices cannot be assigning IPs on the same IP band. Only one device can have DHCP switched on.

If your modem has any router capabilities, the chances are is it does have DHCP on by default. You need to either switch off DHCP at the D7 or at the modem.

I helped my friend going through the same problem you are. He has got HFC with a huawei modem. I told him to link the D7 to the huawei, and check the DHCP settings. He has the D7 working as the wireless router (switched off the huawei wifi). I am not 100% sure about FTTP, but as far as i can understand, you are hooked up via ethernet directly to the fibre, which means that the ISP is assigning your IP. In which case try turning off DHCP on the router and see whether it makes any difference.

  • Would this be a worthwhile upgrade from a TD-W8980?
N is more than fast enough for our ADSL, so AC isn't much benefit.

    • Only if you are experiencing interrupted streaming (e.g cut-outs or drop outs in gaming or video)

If you have frequent wifi disconnects it's a sign you might have congested 2.4ghz wifi networks. Going with a dual band AC router might cure that issue, assuming your computer has a dual band AC network card with

      • Will this work with cable or eventually HFC when it gets upgraded?

I'm using the default Netgear CG3000 which has frequent drop outs and slow speed.

I've tried bridging my tp link w8980 to it but don't know how /can't make it work. :(

  • Hm… Wireless1 sells for $178.20 and you get wifi extender too.

But, in the description in red letters it say - not compatible with FTTN =( And this is what NBNCo says I will have soon(ish)

Need a modem with great Wifi coverage - my D7 just does not cut it. Wifi is not super stable - must be competing with others in the area. Does not cover full house too. 5GHz is a joke.. I like Asus AC68U, but don't like the price…

    • The Asus AC86U seems to be only $60 more than the Archer D7. If you think it will provide you with enjoyment, then surely the price isn't too high.

  • The powerline is antique. 0nly buy av2 now with 3 pins - not necessarily backwards compatible either.

  • Is the mouse any good? I need a replacement

  • Does anyone know when the sale starts? Pricing online is still the old price ie $229 for the d9
