I'd plus it if I hadn't had such terrible experiences with pc.byte - hard to see how you could match this using parts you bought yourself.

Although let us not forget people reporting they've been sold underspec hardware by pc.byte (250W PSU instead of claimed 500W and so on).

    • is it? I tried to do a math with MSY parts, it turned out pcbyte for the whole one is cheaper. I know they always choose cheapy PSU instead

      • it turned out pcbyte for the whole one is cheaper.

That's what I meant - I can't see how you could beat the price building it yourself.

Yea it's actually a pretty decent deal, that psu would be a warning sign though. Closes I could come on PC Part Picker was mid 500 for the same and that's without the OS.

For anyone seriously considering this it's a good deal, but maybe put in a couple more hundred for an ssd and a gpu, also a known brand PSU would be a good idea.

My own experience is okay. I paid for a custom case because I hated the case it shipped with… and they forgot to build it with the custom case, and refunded the extra I paid.

The price was unbeatable, but now I have a "5uper 1337 Hyp4h h34d5h07 mach1n3" case in my otherwise adult living room.

One wonders if they forgot or couldn't be arsed customising builds, maybe the core build has better margins. A plain refund on the parts seems inadequate, it's certainly grounds for a complete refund.

        • I am sure the core build has better margins; It's a really ugly case. Usually I am sceptical of companies making mistakes but in this instance I walked through with over a few emails exactly what I wanted, even offered to pay a "customisation fee" of sorts which they didn't accept, and they didn't indicate at any point it was an issue.

The guy I spoke to was very apologetic (sincere apologetic, not corporate speak apologetic) and explained where things had gone wrong. Still very happy with the machine I got for the price I paid.

@Cubist: That's the main thing. Now all you need are some case LEDs and your machine will be comp1337.

    • hard to see how you could match this using parts you bought yourself.

I tried it out and came up with this.
Free postage too. You could add a DVD drive if you need it.
Edit: Oh the hard drive disappeared in the checkout for some reason add about $70 to that for a 1TB drive

    that case is F-UGLY!

    • +2

I have this case. Installing drives is really unfriendly. You need to take off both sides and the front face to mount the screws to hold the drive in place.

      • +1

LOL old school. They all used to be like that once upon a time, big pain…

    • No Case Fan Included

    Put 'Hot Deal' in title…

    • This will never be as hot as you!

    • Eek, didn't notice that. Presumably the PSU can pull enough heat out.

      • Pumping hot air into a PSU, what could possibly go wrong?

  • Jump on the PC Part Buy / Swap / Sell groups on Facebook if you're looking to build a cheap PC.

You can find some ripper deals on used rigs.

      OCAU is usually the best

      • All i usually find there is a few decent things for sale and shitloads of people lurking.
        I don't bother anymore.

        • This is true.
          Sometimes there's a bargain

  • The H110 motherboard might not support 4k resolution display

    • +2

I don't have money to buy 4k display either. I think this one is a budget PC for budget people

    • +1

H110 boards do support 4k resolution.

      • I have checked a few Gigabyte mainboards, only support 1920 maximum.

Looks like they're still using the 'Tsunami 600W' power supply, which is actually 220W. Seriously, is there anything lower than making the product number for a 220 watt power supply '600W'?

Other than their shit customer service, their products are well build and well price.

Just make sure you UPGRADE THE POWER SUPPLY! Can't stress that enough.

    • haha remember back day like 15 years ago, all the build system with no brand like this always makes a false advertising, 400W actually was 100 W or something. anyway I still this one is good except the ugly case and stupid PSU

      • +6

I actually brought this to light on a previous post and a lot of people discovered their PSU was actually 220W not 600W. It's probably fine just using the intergrated graphics, but anyone installing a dedicated GPU will need higher wattage. Things could get damaged due to this.

I don't mind them including a cheap PSU as stock, but they're intentionally hiding the fact that it's not 600W, despite me bringing this up with them.

They even went further on the phone and assured me it's 600watts. I told them it's not and to call me back with a resolution. They eventually sheepishly called me back and sold me a Cosair at the upgrade price only, which I installed myself. That was 9 months ago and they're still using that PSU.

This is seriously shady business practice and they are clearly praying on the less technological savvy. Sad thing is, if these things fail for people, it will most likely be for people who can't afford a new unit or to get it repaired.

Due to morals alone, I'm giving these guys a miss. Just so dodgy.

        • +2

@Smol Cat: Dodgy manufacturer too. Using 600W as the model number.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262442

        • +2

@Clear: Exactly! Using the model "600W" for a 200 Watt power supply is about as deceptive as you can get. I question if it is even legal. It is at the very least frowned upon. Totally unacceptable.

        • @Smol Cat: I don't think it is legal as isn't that under the term "deception"

In saying that after looking at the Ebay Ad it clearly states 250 watts.

  • No SSD for the OS? You'd be better off getting a previous gen i5 and put an SSD in.

  • I think you can swap the hard drive to a SSD drive too for not much more money http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162022889844
If you already have an old hard drive that would improve the speed a bit

  • Needs an SSD….found they delivered a good product on last purchase
Just finding it difficult to attach another Sata drive, via sata port to get info off it on the PC though???

  • +4

Take note that this price doesn't include an OS.

  • Only the CPU and the 8G ram have some value. Don't get me wrong, all other parts do cost money, however most of them are not the parts you would choose if you build a desktop on your own. Looks like stock take sale to get rid of rubbish parts.

    • Indeed, they added some slow selling parts although they are not making a profit, but it is not a balanced computer.

      • +4

i dont think its that bad… sure i think the mb is pot luck but its the basis for a more decent machine

pop in an ssd, maybe add some more mem., replace the psu… maybe add a psu

i mean everyone expects the world for $500….

        • That's true. Just $500 for a budget pc with i5 7400
