    worth it ?

      No

        +1.

Don't waste your money on this garbage. That $15 can go towards xiaomi hybrid earphones, which are miles better!!

        • +1

But they touch the brain. I don't like it when buds touch my brain

    • +5

the panasonic ergofit's are the best earphones around $15 imo. actually has bass at this price-point too. Didn't really look around for the best price, but use the 5% off eBay code for this item (need to spend min $30 though) and you'll have a much better pair of earphones. Best selling earphones on amazon with very positive reviews too.

      • +16

These kind only 'sound better' because they pipe sound deeper into your ear and seal it with the squishy bits. Apple used to make a pair like this too and they were pretty good.

If you press on the apple ones (and any other for that matter) they will also seal your ear they sound much better!

Phones with these ergo-seals are louder and sound cleaner certainly- but there are many available in this style, even zillions of no-name ones.

        Questions around
        - how long can you leave them in without them hurting
        - how easy/quickly can you take them in and out (in front of the boss, customer or parent, this can become quite literally a matter of life and death)
        - how long do they last
        - how good is the mic and the controller, esp. in wind and overall sound quality
        - what happens when they fail within the first year
        - are the Apple ones you're buying authentic? There are thousands of counterfeit ones on eBay and telling them and the box apart is hard without listening to them or weighing them. The fakes are nowhere near as good sonically and the controllers are crap too- lots of them have faulty joints/connections out of the box.

Mostly because I have to take them in and out of my ears a lot when working or doing things, I've found the Apple ones a very good balance of simplicity, ease, sonic quality, resilience and support.

But no matter what phones I buy I always put some extra heat-shrink around the plug end to help the wire take the wear. [But do not do this without a temp controlled heat wand, the slightest overheating can reduce the lifespan of the wire sheath, let alone the plug end].

          Re: panasonic ergofit

these only 'sound better' because they pipe sound deeper into your ear

so you mean they only sound better because they were designed better?

they are very comfortable. I can leave them in for a day. They are pretty hardy but i've had the glue come off one side and the earpiece separate because I put the earphones into the washing. Easy fix. I didn't buy the mic one because I am antisocial. They are $15; buy another if they fail by your fault. I routinely lose them before the year is through and have bought 3 to date.

they are pretty resistant to falling out of your ears too, unlike the xiaomi and other ones

        • +3

Realised someone just bought all the stock left on the eBay link I provided so here's another one and another one
No, I find they genuinely sound better too. Even using the smallest ear-tips they sounded bassy and not tinny. I don't know if those questions were specifically for the earphones I mentioned but I'll answer them anyway.

          • how long can you leave them in without them hurting

I can leave it on however long I want, they've never hurt my ears. I probably regularly have them on for like 3-4 hours no problem. Even gone to bed with them before, however that can be sort of uncomfortable.

          • how easy/quickly can you take them in and out (in front of the boss, customer or parent, this can become quite literally a matter of life and death)

I didn't realise this differed between earphones. You can straight up pull them out, it's not like they're glued to yours ears or anything.

          • how long do they last

I bought 2 pairs back in November and my first pair is still going strong. Use it all the time, probably like 3-4 hours a day at least. But who knows, YMMV

          • how good is the mic and the controller, esp. in wind and overall sound quality

These ones don't have mic/controls. It's a few dollars more to get one like that. I did have one like that and it worked perfectly fine for me. Never heard anyone complain about call quality. Probably lasted about 6-7 months before dying out on me.

          • what happens when they fail within the first year

They're like $15, I really can't be bothered chasing up cheap earphones. I'm impressed they can even last this long considering how long I wear them for.

        • @Blu2: EarPods have decent sound but literally no noise cancellation and a fair amount of leakage. These are common faults with the non in-ear design, so people should be aware of these flaws when purchasing such headphones. As for how sound compares to the Panasonic, I don't know. But the AirPod sound quality is fairly well regarded, but as I said, they fall short in other departments. People may have luck with silicon tips on the EarPods, there are some made to remedy the flaws I outlined, how well they do this, I don't know.

        • Brother!

You just have to say YMMV: Your claims about fit, feel and quality are the opposite for me. Not all people have the same ears, so you can't make the claims you do.

They are subjective. You should be objective.

Silicone makes a huge difference to sealing the ear, it's not a design fault, it's a design difference. Silicon tips don't fit some ears. And if they don't, a semi-in canal design like Apple Ear Pod or Air Pod is the best compromise.

If you think the Pana's are so good, start your own Deal instead of jacking someone else's genuine effort to sell fakes.

          Or are they genuine?

Can Kogan be trusted to be selling genuine if he can genuninely claim ignorance that they aren't… lol!

      • +2

if youre replacing iems at this price maybe you should check out chinese earphones. they seems to be regularly putting out new pairs that people rave about, including plenty under $20. i heard some good about these which seem to have just come out. just waiting on shipping. good reviews, better than way more expensive pairs, yada yada

        • agreed, unless you're specifically averse to the fit of IEMs then buy some xiaomi pistons or similar. i just bought a pair of KZ ATEs for $16 from gearbest (including $3 for faster shipping) and they sound slightly better imo than my xiaomi piston 3s that i lost and moreover the wraparound design with foam tips feels a lot more secure. i hadn't heard of the ones in your link but bookmarked to check out later, thanks

the biggest issue with buying chinese IEMs is, of course, avoiding fakes. id steer clear of ebay entirely and use gearbest / everbuying etc to make it easier.

I used to agree with all those that are saying that Apple earpods are crappy, not any more.

Earlier, they never used to stay in my ears, and sound from them were well below average.

Until, I found some silicon covers (from my wife's Samsung S7, yes Samsung S7 comes with additional silicon earphone covers, why not apple?).
The Samsung earphones covers fit the Apple earpods very well. I was surprised that the silicon covers even have the correct slits as that of Apple earpods.

Now with these silicon covers on the Apple earpods the sound is amazing. They fit very well in my ears, never ever fell down (though I usually use them while sitting or casual walk, not during work outs, but I am sure they wont fall off now).

I am a bass fan (I got a Bose Sounddock as gift, I love it), and the earpods' bass is amazing, highs are good, mid range could be improved though, but not bad.

I was going to put my money on Bose QC35 when they were on sale, but I was reluctant to buy those, too expensive for me. I am now happy with earpods with silicon covers. I will not have to buy any other ear/head phones. I also own Sennheisser in ear phones, and Apple earpods are way way better than those.

Are these genuine though? Packaging doesn't seem to have Apple logo.
I will buy these earpods if they are genuine. I will recommend these if you can also get some silicon covers as well.

      • Can you tell me what these Silicon covers are please? :)

      • If you read the reviews in the dick smith site there are a couple of comments saying it's not Genuine, and if that's the case $15 is not really a deal for immitation.

        • last time when kogan sold me a fake rubix cube I reported them to rubix and paypal got a full refund and keep the product

      • If by packaging you mean the logo on the earpods box, it is there, but just super faint. try tilting your monitor

        • You are right, I can now see a faint Apple logo outline. Hopefully it will be genuine. I feel they won't use Apple's name and sell fake products.

  • +9

Thanks OP. That's a good price for this specific pair of headphones.

Opinions vary, I personally like them but find them overpriced at RRP (as many do) - $15 is worth a pair.

    • i recently spent $10 to replace mine as an add on from an ebay seller, then found even cheaper ones on ebay. sold as genuine, and compared with a real set they sure seem to be. makes me think the other ebay sellers might actually be telling the truth with their <$10 earpods. the same seller had fake ones which were very obviously shit but not sold as genuine, so they had a foot in the dodgy side too

      • I bought 3 pairs of genunine fakes for $20 from an Aussie seller. They were very hard to tell apart, but one set didn't work properly, none sound as good (but far better than most fakes) and they were lighter. Also, the wires were slightly thinner, an original set didn't fit in the fake box the same way and vice versa.

A lot of people I know wouldn't notice the difference in sound quality though. I thought they were crap, but I'll wear them out using them for voice only.

Nowhere near as good or hardy as the originals.

I notified the vendor that they were fake with evidence. They offered a partial refund despoite having falsely advertised the item as original Apple.

eBay ignored the issue but allowed a refund. Then raised the issue as counterfeit products (not 'fakes') and eBay 'escalated the issue' up a very deep black hole. They collect big time from the raging business of accurate fakes.

Advice to OzBargainers: Buy the fakes, raise a case of them being counterfeit, get refund, $$$ave! But you put up with high failure rates, no support and shit sound. Not such a good deal in the end ;-)

    • I do like them also. My young kids like them as it stays in their ear.

  • Nope. Rubbish sound quality, save your cash for something better

    • +14

Wouldn't say the sound is rubbish- they aren't the greatest technically and isolation is horrible, but they do have a sound signature that appeals to a lot of people and aren't that bad at $15.

      • Yes that's Fair enough, it's just from personal experience that i found it to be really disappointing.
If you ask me, i think it's much better to save up a little more and ultimately spend on another model that would sound miles ahead of these for a bit more dollars.

        • +3

Yeah, earphones/IEM's/headphones are quite subjective (I personally don't like the earpods), but I know friends who prefer them to many of the $30-$70 pairs I've lent. Auditioning where possible is key.

      • +6

I'd say they're one of the best earphones around.

        Headsets are big/bothersome.
And practically all other earphones that sound "better" than these are ones that RAPE your ear (isolate ambient noise). I find these EarPods to be quite useful for things like going on a run or ride a bike, when you NEED the ambient noise penetration.

It's too bad the sound controls don't work on Android devices, and most other alternatives are also designed for the iPod too.

        • +1

Great sound quality, hindered by the earphone design. IEMs would be great with the EarPods drivers at this price. There are some silicone tips you can get, but I don't know how they are.

The remote is also pretty good, yet (for iOS devices). Using the Xiaomi Mi Pros and the remote buttons suck. The piston 3's had terrible remote buttons too (they get stuck). I was hoping the Pros would be different since the remote is a totally different design but it's still shitty, just not as bad.

        • Have you tried bluetooth Meizu EP-51s? They fit onto your ear (don't penetrate your ear canal) and while they don't sound super-awesome, are great for jogging. I wear mine to sleep…

I bought mine for around $30 AUD (after Cashrewards) from Aliexpress, but Kogan sells it too.

I rate them lower than my Bose Soundsport but that's obviously because the Soundsport costs $100 normally…

        • @scrimshaw:
The Bose is an in-ear design. I really hate these.
The Meizu EP-51's are also in-ear style, just with a smaller

If I want better sound quality, I don't compromise with those "in-ear" styles and head straight for cans/headphones.
The can headphones are much fuller and bassier than in-ear earbuds AND they're more comfortable.
However, I can't seem to run with those big headphones… and wouldn't want to as they block out ambient sounds.
(ie/ can't hear people, bikes, or cars approaching from rear)

I say the Apple earbuds do what they say they do, and do so as good as possible:
Best sound earbuds without an in-ear design, allows ambient sound to penetrate, is comfortable for the majority (unlike 99% of overpriced in-ears).

PS I had some old HTC earbuds that didn't rape your ear, and the Music Controls work on Android/not-iPod… but the earbuds were chewed by an evil puppy

    • +3

Sound quality on these are far from rubbish.. If you are talking about the earphones from around the Apple 3g models I would agree but I think from a sound point of view they are great..

    • Please recommend ones that sound better and are cheaper, also ones that are not in ear canal. Thanks.

  • does anyone heard brand vsonic
becasue i saw the deal around 30 bucks for the model VSD2

    • +1

They're for a certain kind of taste, I experiment quite a bit when it comes to earphones, and I think earpods still deserve an honourable mention for sound quality, putting aside the trash comfort and isolation.

  • +1

I like the fit and it is my go to earphones.

  • +2

i like these earphones. Bought a pair, but worried their arent genuine. Why does it say "Designed by Apple" and not made by apple… any fake earphones can have the same design as apple…

    • +2

Because Apple only designs, their cheap 3rd party contracted chinese labour force makes them.

If they had to be honest, it would probably say made by "Shenzhen Company XYZ" But really, do they want people to know these were made for $3 US dollars apiece? probably not good for brand image and marketing.

  • +2

Would rather take the other value earphone choices any day if not much more than $15 - e.g. Xiaomi or VE Monks.

  • +2

I would guess they are fakes, read the reviews, lots of people questioning it.

    • -2

Would officeworks price match these? That way they're guaranteed to be real.

      • office works don't price match grey imports

        • but do they price match the fakes?

Fakes are cheaper than grey imports.

Wnd we still don't know if these Kogan-sourced Ear-pods are genuine fakes or plain old counterfeit genuine product.

  • I often wonder if it is an authentic apple product or it is a fake one. Anyone being to Shenzhen can see all the fake ones are so real, make it very hard to say. I mean if you can print the real money, why you want to print a fake one?

  • +1

I find the hard plastic of the earpods very uncomfortable. Moreover the sound is not great and even worse leaks sound easily - if you ever look on the train for the source of somebody's crappy music 9/10 times they have Apples earphones.

If you do need something get the Xiaomi Pistons instead. Find reviews on headfi if you're interested.

    • I find it quite incomprehensible that folks actually prefer using these to IEMs at the same price point. I got one of these with my work phone (iphone 6), and after giving it an honest try for about a day, I replaced it with a pair of IEMs with comply. Its not just that isolation sucks, the fact that it's hard plastic digging into the channels of your ears which is uncomfortable right from the get go.

Even my Samsung phones ended up bundling free IEMs (the S8 comes with an AKG IEM), so its really puzzling as to why Apple would not choose something with beautiful form AND comfy af (they are well known for excellent design and top tier construction).

Moreover the sound is not great and even worse leaks sound easily - if you ever look on the train for the source of somebody's crappy music 9/10 times they have Apples earphones.

This is so true. My experience has been 10 times outta 10. :) A decade ago, those awful flat "earphones" (that are wedged between the ridges of the ears) used to be ubiquitous, now you'd be hard-pressed to see them anywhere. Hell, even the airline industry has moved away from them.

      • +1

If IEMs don't fit your ears, what choice do you have? Also, what happens if you plug your ears for the majority of each day… do things grow?

Given that our ears (like most of not all mammals) ears grow from the inside out, plugging them constantly pushes what comes out back in… the consequences can't be so good if you use them a lot like I do.

Apart from the impact on sound quality of having an unsealed ear canal and sound output further from the ear-drum, I really like these particular IEMs, they fit in an out very easily, they don't hurt like closer fitting pods, and they're the only ones that actively pipe the sound in the right direction.

Given the amount of people that like them, they must be the right size and shape for ears other than mine.

        • If IEMs don't fit your ears, what choice do you have?

My advice would be to try out different tips. If it is the housing of the drivers that is a problem (which is strange since the earpods seem to fit you), then select a low form-factor IEM like the Klipsch x10.

Also, what happens if you plug your ears for the majority of each day… do things grow?

You mean bacteria and the like? Yes ofcourse. Which is why take short breaks and "air out your ear canal". :) You shouldn't be on IEMs/any sort of headphones without taking short breaks in any case.

Given that our ears (like most of not all mammals) ears grow from the inside out, plugging them constantly pushes what comes out back in… the consequences can't be so good if you use them a lot like I do.

This is the first I'm hearing of this "phenomenon". Could you care to elaborate? Even if this were real, I daresay, it must not have a significant impact as there are a huge number of industries which mandate the usage of ear plugs.

Apart from the impact on sound quality of having an unsealed ear canal and sound output further from the ear-drum, I really like these particular IEMs, they fit in an out very easily, they don't hurt like closer fitting pods, and they're the only ones that actively pipe the sound in the right direction.

Yeah mate. Fair enough. If it works for you, it works for you. I haven't really met anyone who found these more comfortable over IEMs. So you're the first person I know. :)

        • +1

@gearhead: Yep that's all I'm saying, they work for me, and not everything that works for you works for everyone else.

Elaborate on ear growth? Uh, it's discussed in medical courses at Uni. But any quick search should tell you a few things you need to know about over-doing things: https://goaskalice.columbia.edu/answered-questions/ear-plugs. But as with so many things, YMMV- some people get infections just thinking something touched their ear.

Thanks for the advice, but you're not telling me anything I don't know.

First person to tell u bad things about IEMs? Ear canals come in many different shapes and sizes. It would have taken Apple a long time to decide on the shape of their EarPods. If they didn't suit enough people, they get PR problems from people saying their phones don't fit.

Maybe you've never asked anyone… older males will tell you they have trouble with IEMs because hairy ears proclude their use entirely- and most males don't get hairy ears until they reach 40. There's certainly a few of them about.

    • +1

Looks good - just bought a pair, thanks mate. :)

looks promising but that build quality is horrendous

      earbud padding from the 90's

3.5mm jack housing using the cheapest plastic on earth

the same for the quality of the cable housing

the only thing decent are the part of the cable going into the buds themselves

so many better alternatives on Aliexpress
my go to are somic earphones. Although better one exist as well

i own too many bloody earphones, keep buying them despite going true wireless

  • Likely going to be fake, fake Earpods are everywhere. I personally think the better way of getting EarPods if you want any is physically buying it off from someone who bought an iPhone. EarPod fakes are relatively easy to spot.

As with Earpods, I do think they are alright. They sound alright. The quality control on them seemed to be alright. How well they fit really depends, for me, they fit alright. You do have to bear in mind that it's an open earphone. There are few reasons why expensive open earphones are almost extinct.

    • Kogan is pretty reputable. If they say the Earpods are genuine then, most likely that they are.

      • I still don't trust EarPods coming from some unknown source that Kogan sourced from. I've seen bargains on earphones going sour from vendors that you wouldn't normally associate shady behaviours from. The case I remember was with Woot (a subsidiary of Amazon) and Apple In-Ear monitor.

      • Where on the site does it actually say the word Genuine?

        • True. It was actually OP who said it was genuine. Well yea, I would take it with a grain of salt.

On the contrary, Kogan could get into a lot of trouble for using "Apple", its logo and trademark "EarPod" if they are not genuine.

  • Please don't buy these. You're very annoying on the train/tram/bus. These leak so badly. I'm sure the people wearing them believe they're listening to something at a normal level but not to the person two sections away…

  • Nice bought one
    Thanks op

    • Mind updating when you get them if they're fake or not?

      • they are real. maybe asia/hk stock.

To provide a different perspective - I don't desire total isolation. As I'm walking around the city, I need/want to hear ambient noises as they alert me to danger. Also, on the rare occasion I listen to music at work, I don't want to be that jerk people have to throw things at to get their attention. As far as non-isolating options go, the Apple earpods are the best I've found, and at $15 they are a no-brainer.

    • Sure if they have decent isolation they will muffle ambient noises even when off, but something like the Apple ones, you'd just end up cranking the volume, making them worse. I'll take something with decent isolation at a lower volume any day.

For all those who are questioning on quality of these headphones, first of all these are geninue ones and second of all by any chance you recieve them and dont like them, you can ask Dick Smith Support to refund you the money. Their customer support is really good, specially online chat where you can ask them anything you want.

  • Thanks OP!!!!

  • a while back i bought an iphone from an ebay seller without retail packaging that offered 'genuine' earpods for about $10 extra. they sent me the wrong ones, then fixed it up later. the fake ones they sent first were very obviously fake. the $10 ones seem real, and i had a real set to compare them to. seemed like a good deal, but then i saw a bunch of other ebay sellers listing 'genuine' earpods for under $10, at least when sold in multiples of 2 or 3. normally i wouldn't believe it, but after getting my pair i think there might be a whole bunch of legit ones floating around for cheap. so if anyone is on the fence about whether these are worth $15, why not get them for $7 each to make it the price seem even better, with ebay protection to return them if they seem even a little suspicious

  • These are garbage, just buy the $1 which can be compared. If u want better ones get the Xiamo

    • Just bought these and no lol
Gonna have to go through the hassle of returns

  • I have a pair and find them highly uncomfortable for my ears.

  • +1

Judging by some of the reviews on the Dick Smith website it doesn't seem 100% that these are Apple genuine (one comment on wire quality, one comment reporting they don't come in Apple packaging).

  • Real or fake, cheap or expensive - if you care even a little bit about how your music sounds, I'd recommend against these.

  • Does anyone know if these are ear pods that come with the lightning port for iPhone 7's?
