  • I think this has been going for a while. I got it around 2 months ago.
Never had any issues with signal etc although did fine we can't call the UK. No idea if we need to turn something on or you just can't.
    I'd happily buy again.

    • +1

You just can't. But truly, just use Skype or Viber or any of the 100s of VOIP services out there. Much cheaper and better quality. I don't really see it as a negative.

      • +2

Google Duo now supports voice only calls too, and lets not forget Whatsapp. Do people still use Viber?

        • I flicked Viber for Whattsapp. Vastly better.

        • +1

If you have viber pc client, it is better than WhatsApp in terms of synchronisation.
Unlike WhatsApp, viber pc client needs not to connect your phone to WiFi to synchronise.

        • I tried Viber for about a week, but got so many spam messages I ditched it. Didn't like the whole cartoony feel of it anyway.

Was hoping I could drop Duo once WhatsApp added video calls, but the quality is pretty poor compared to Duo (not that I use it much anyway) Haven't tried voice only on Duo.

        • +4

          I use google hangouts.

        • +1

@thedude23: Whatsapp is superior in terms of messaging as it uses end-to-end encryption now.

        • +5

@bamzero: I LOVE Viber. So many lovely people always messaging me, wanting to hook up and have sex. ;)

        • @thedude23: Not for long. :'(

And what's with taking away our little emoji blobs? I like the little emoji blobs.

    • Try IMO one of the best in the market now

  • is it more expensive tha last time or same?

    • +3

Cheaper, i believe so,it was 23$ last time pm for the 10gb, now its 21$ i am cancelling my lebara for dis :)

  • +1

Well I got a spare Kogan one month to be used shortly, but have that 3 month amaysim pending, so this may have to be passed on…. will be going $56 for 6 months unlimited atm. Beats the $60 Telstra a month, $304 savings already :)

  • Ah hell yea! Thanks OP! I was about to buy the previous 10GB deal which was $278. Good thing I didn't rush it.

  • +3

only problem , no international call min, if not i will sigh up!!!! Nice Deal anyways!!!

  • +2

I would switch but need support for global roaming, many cheap suppliers now not providing roaming services.

Edit: Oh it's Vodafone.. hahaha no thanks.

    • +1

Since i had 4G phone, Voda network is great, before it was marginal

  • So it's 14GB for 30 days. What happens on the 31st day of the month? Also do I have to recharge myself or will it automatically recharge since A year has been purchased in advance?

    • +2

      it'll automatically recharge itself

    • +2

14GB per calendar month until the 12 months are up. Don't try to recharge until it expires.

  • +1

What if I've previously bought one of their pre-paid vouchers? How do I get around the "new customers only" thing?

    • +2

Port out then back in again.

  • +6

14GB!? A lot of people could ditch their slow ADSL for this. Just do you Windows updates at work :)

    • That's like 3 netflix movies / month

      • Netflix (and alternatives) is the only reason I have not upgraded from ADSL to 4G.

  • Any free international phone calls?

  • +3

Got this deal last year when it was still 8GB a month instead of 10GB. Other than there is no international roaming option (I needed brief access in New Zealand to receive a text message but couldn't get it), I have had no complaints. Vodafone network is better than what I remember it being.

  • +1

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 31/08/2017

    • Damn 18 days off my plans ending

      • +2

Maybe choke the 18 days if it saves you in the long run.

        • Or could just wait the 18 days, given it's over two months before it expires

  • I bought the $5 offer they had for a month on the highest plan they had. Will this voucher work for me if I am already a customer?

    • +2

      Yes.
When you purchase they'll send you a voucher code. Apply the voucher code when it's time to recharge your service for the next month and you'll have things sorted for the next 12 months.

      • Perfect, thanks !

    • isn't this offer only valid for new customers?

      • +1

I was able to recharge my existing Kogan service with the voucher for 12 months.

  • Does it include International Calls? Is TPG the only network provider to include International Calls in their plan?

    • no to international calls.

    • +4

Lebara has international calls in their plan

    • Boost, Lyca, Amaysim…all have unlimited calls to 10 International countries on some of their pre-paid plans….

      • Do you recommend any of them? I was looking at Amaysim and it has it on their $20 plan. Technically, that is best deal out there and should be the choice of all ozbargainer.

        • My wife is on Amaysim's $24.90/month plan and she is happy with it. I am on Boost $40 a month as I need slightly more data than her but we both get free calling to New Zealand on our plans.
I didn't know Amaysim had $20 plans as well.

    • I'm on Telechoice. Went from TPG to Telechoice for the same price, $20, but for 1.5GB instead of 1GB.

They also do included international calls to certain countries.

  • If I decide to get a new phone in the next 6 months (hoping for the new iPhone) will that effect the deal? I.e. Can I get a new phone outright that requires a new sim and not lose money or need to be on a new plan?

    • +1

the voucher provides you with 12 months of service from date of activation.
whatever phone you decide to put the sim in is up to you.

      • +1

And it's multi punched Sim. Just keep the bits you don't use in case you need to go up in Sim size.

  • +1

Can we port old number to this one?

    • +1

you can if it's from another carrier.

    • +1

      Can I did

  • +4

    Can't recommend Kogan mobile enough.

No issues, super simple switch over, was the cheapest when I got it, download speeds on mobile are good, reception is good.

That being said I am near Brisbane city as this is now vodaphone probably not the best option if you are too far out of the city centre.

  • it'd be good to hear from someone who was on amaysim and has switched to kogan regarding 4G performance - better? consistent? worse? not consistent?

    • +1

I have amaysim with Pixel, and my daughter has Kogan Mobile with her Redmi 3. We don't use the mobile broadband enough to actually compare the 4G bandwidth performance, however in terms of coverage (in Sydney South-Eastern suburbs), Kogan/Vodafone has very good signal — even better than amaysim/Optus I'll say.

      • have you had experience with a telstra provider like telstra/aldi mobile/boost?

    • I was amaysim in Brisbane.

Very similar performance, I did not experience any issues with connection on amaysim nor have I with Kogan.

4g speeds are similar (at least for streaming youtube etc), connection is optimal at most times.

Only reason for swap was simply the price.

      • have you had experience with a telstra provider like telstra/aldi mobile/boost?

        • Never had Telstra as they were the most expensive.

It was a toss up at the time with aldi mobile & Kogan but kogan came in much cheaper hence went with them>.

As previously mentioned I was on Amaysim before which uses optus - very similar experience to Kogan mobile tbh.

But as mentioned if you are well out of the city in remote locations telstra is the only go.

    • In my personal experience, I was on the Optus network with Vaya up until about 2 months ago - on that network I was getting 4G or 4G+ almost any place I went in Sydney. After switching to the Vodafone network with Kogan, 4G connection seems hard to come by.

Despite this, I feel it was worth the switch considering how much more data I get for around the same price.

  • +3

This or Lebara? Gotta make the jump now! I have been TPG for far too long on their 1.5GB plan. The new offers are so lucrative!

  • Good one OP! Spotted the deal and came over here to post to find you had done the hard work :)

I'm planning to pay for this with some kogan.com vouchers picked up from woolies using 5% off discounted woolies egiftcards (so effectively another 5% off the posted deal). Have 2 questions though:

    1. has anyone already successfully done this?
    2. does anyone know a cheaper way to get kogan.com giftcards eg at say 10% off?
    • I like to know too!!

    • From reading the redemption FAQ, you can't use it on the kogan mobile site, but this sim pack seems to be purchasable from the main store so I can't see it being a problem.

I've sent them an email asking if it's OK.

I'll update in here when I know an answer.

    • Enter the kogan site through the Velocity e-store will get you 2 Velocity pts per $1 spent and buying your 5% discounted wish gift cards on the AMEX platinum edge a further 3pts/$1 will get you pretty close to an effective 10% discount

    • Has anybody successfully used Kogan GC to purchase the vouchers?

      • I have and many others have. Check classified.

  • +3

Great price. Had no problems with KOgan. Glad they're shaking up the mobile industry and offering great plans.

  • Dang. I bought two of the 10gb subscriptions just 2 days ago at only 30% off!

    • +1

Don't ya just hate it when that happens.

      • Im asking for price match, purchased 2 days ago as well

    • +2

If you haven't activated, request for a refund and repurchase.

  • Dang just signed up with the virgin deal today $45 for 17gb. I'll get one for my wife though.
The only difference I can tell is just rollover data.

Onky difference which I thought was big was data rollover and international calls though.

  • The Virgin deal was tempting, this one also very tempting being so much cheaper. No data rollover but I would be lucky to rollover 4GB each month anyway. And I can't remember the last time I've made an international call - something can work around with the missus' plan instead if need be.

Are there any gotchas? Like say data billed in big blocks?

    hmmm …

  • Wow I think I might get this …. Alot better than my current Vodafone prepaid :)

  • It's fine if you don't need support, and if Vodafone works for you.

Their so-called "support" is about the worst I've ever experienced - they won't help you if you won't give them the pin for your account. Unreal.

    • Couldn't be further from my experience. I've been with them across multiple countries since about 2001. I've had one bad customer service experience where they wouldn't price match something for me last year, and I got annoyed.

  • +1

    Hi OP,

    is:

LIMITED TIME ONLY. OFFER ENDS JULY 31ST, 2017 AT 11:59PM AEST

  • Is it possible to port my number back from Kogan to another post or prepaid service when this deal expires?

  • damn everyone in a rush to sell the full year plans at dirt cheap prices. they all know $20 a month for 10gb will be the normal in 3 - 6 months.

    • +3

      Thanks Nostradamus

  • My Optus plan end 23rd May. How do I go about changing over to Kogan? Can I just port over now?

    • +1

You could port over now if you wanted but you could always just buy the kogan plan now and port on the 23rd

      • Thanks.

        • +2

Get the $5 deal for the first month then the 12 month recharge.

    • just make sure you don't cancel your existing plan with Optus

    • ~$1 extra a month for 3GB extra? No brainer to go with Kogan here.

  • +3

I liked it better when it was $1 😀

  • What if you go over the 10 gig , what's the excess charge? Is it like others $10 for each extra gig?

    • +1

      nil
If Data Per 30 Days is exhausted before 30 days has elapsed, access to data will cease until the beginning of the next data 30 day block

  • Hey guys. Looking at switching to this. A couple of questions for people that might know.
Is it easy to monitor internet usage? (all on an app?) Also, if you run out of data during the month, do you still get the unlimited calls/text or do you have to top up the account?

    • they have an app (it's more a login to your account online)
unlimited calls/text is what it is. if you run out of data you have no more data until the following month.

  • As Clay Davis would say…. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
I just bought the Lebara $200 5gb for 360 days

  • Does it say when the voucher needs to be activated by?

The 31s July date seems to be the limited time offer for buying the voucher?

    • +2

The unique Kogan Mobile voucher included as part of this product is non transferrable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 31/08/2017. Activation or recharge must be made before the voucher expiry date.
