    11gb. I thought that was a misprint.

My first graphics card had 512mb.

    Mega. Bytes.

    I can't believe how far we've come.

This is close to mine… first PC i remember was an IBM 286 that had less than 1mb video card ram. The hard drive was only 20mb IIRC.

We had a Tandy before that but I cant really remember that much at all.

@tessel: Microbee with 2kB Programmable Character Graphics (128 characters). Graphical programs frequently crash when they try to draw too complex a screen. Still works.

I was in the CGA 4 colour days. 16 kilobytes of video ram. Enough to run 320x200x2bit. Leisure Suit Larry in CGA!

tempting to get the card at this price in addition to 1080 to compete on kaggle, it's the place where more of faster GPUs gives you a bit of competitive advantage

        • @xEnt: Same, was a great card

Was about to impulse buy,..but then realized that this only has 1hdmi port which is probably not so good for VR use.

Premium shipping 10-14 weeks. Has Amazon been bought up by gearbest.com

Get a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter from Ebay or AliExpress for your monitor, and use the card's single HDMI port for VR. The adapter only works up to 1080p but if you have a 1440p/4K monitor chances are your monitor already supports DisplayPort.

      • +1

I want it to connect to the Vive and a 4k tv which only supports HDMI so no good. I bought one of the most popular HDMI-DP cables on ebay and it didn't even work, well it did but only for half a second then a black screen for 5 seconds and repeat.

Not really something you want to deal with for such an expensive card. I'm currently having that issue with the 980ti. I face the worst first world problems daily

        • +1

I have a Vive too with a similar setup. The Vive supports mini display port as well as HDMI. So just use a display port to minidisplay port cable and connect the TV with the HDMI cable.

        • @shanakatak:

Oh man I never thought of that, I didn't even know what the extra plug was for because I've never used mini DP before.
          Where'd you get your cable?

Also read that 1070 and 1080 DP doesn't work with the Vive for some reason, not sure if it's different with the 1080ti.

        • @iLoveYourFace:
          Msy cost me about $9.
As far as I know that was patched months ago. I haven't had issues with the display port on my 1080ti and Vive.

    • I want to buy one but just gotta figure out how to squeeze it in to my budget.

  • +7

Lack of International warranty means this isn't a deal. Not worth the risk.

    • What if you claimed manufacturer warranty, and send it in, but with your return address based in Germany (ie of a mail forwarding service/or friend)?

      • +1

Wouldn't know haven't tried, but that seem's like such a hassle. I'd rather pay a little more for a EVGA one with international warranty, especially on a TI that doesn't have the whole thermal pad dilemma.

    • -2

So go ahead and pay 20% more for every single thing that hardly ever breaks down even though that isn't rational if you want to save money.

  • +2

    Epic card, epic price.

  • why couldn't this have been evga :(

  • Is there much point is sli 2 gtx 1080's?

    • -6

Well I think everything over the 1070 is overkill right now.

      • +5

Depends on what you want to play at. A 1070 will struggle playing at 1440p @ 60fps for aaa games

        • Not at the moment.. In the future yes

        • Well most people would be on 1080p, OP gave no info. And for 1080p, 1070 is going to do everything you need.

And it's usually better to stick to 1 card unless for some reason you really need 2 but if you're asking if there is any point, then I'm assuming you really don't need 2.

        • @Circly:

Check the benchmarks. There's very few aaa titles where it'll run 60FPS+ on ultra at 1440p. Often frame drops to 50fps

      • +1

4k @ 120hz+ monitors are coming very soon! Very expensive though.

Even a 1080Ti will struggle with 4k at 120+Hz. An enthusiast will soon have a reason to spend an arm and a leg on two 1080Tis in SLI.

        • maybe u need 2X 1080TI for 120hz

    • Supposely paying for 2 x GTX 1080 for SLI doesn't make much sense compared to 2 x GTX 1070 when you examine benchmarks and cost.

      • +1

        What about VR.

I have a 34 inch qhd monitor…. would love to see skyrim go from edge to edge.

        • I don't know if it's changed, but I thought that VR didn't really have good support for multiple video cards, in which case the best single card you can buy would perform the best.

  • +5

Will this make reality less of a chore?

    • +1

Yes single life is great, don't even have to put on pants unless you really have to go out even then it's still optional. Buy the card and then join us when the misses finds out how much you just spent.

  • White and Orange WTF?

If this was an EVGA card I would of jumped on it straight away, the warranty is not worth the risk

    • Should be out of stock by now

  • Interested but would rather pay a little more for something local with warranty. Any other 1080Ti FE's in the sub $1k bracket yet? The others on OzB are all expired other than newegg :(

    • +1

I think off the top of my head there are a couple galax ones at work for around the 1050$ mark at work umart with decent after market cooling solutions on them. There have been a couple local blower style deals for 999$ recently too.

The other option is some thing like this from amazon which comes to about 985-990$ shipped. And has the evga international warranty.

      • Yep, I'm hoping for a blower style deal for <$1k again. I regret not picking up the last couple on OzB thinking they'd keep coming down in price over time :( Must be FE otherwise won't fit in my case.

        Thanks for the tip though.

  • +1

Great card, got the strix and it handles watch dogs 2 in 4k fine.

  • I can't make it below $900…..

  • How does this compare to the Gigabyte Gaming OC version that was selling on Amazon?
