    Dual core.
    Low resolution.
    Old version of Android.

I see no bargain here sorry.

    • Thought it might be good for my kids but can't really see any specs on it, you have a better one for the price in mind?

      • +6

Specs are on same page under details.

I got this for kids, really happy with it Lenovo Tab 3

        • Bought my mother one of the tab 3 for mothers day, she loves it!

        • +4

Yeah, I have that one for my eldest, it does the job. This one is a bit less specced in some ways but also comes with 3g connectivity, 3gb of data and is 20% cheaper.
I was actually interested in Paintoads neg as a quick search shows it to be the cheapest available, is he negging just because he doesn't like it or is it actually because it's not a bargain and he has a better tablet for the price to prove it.

        • Do you know which Android version it comes with or can be updated to?

        • @amts:
          Lollipop

    • +2

So you're negging because of the specs, or because its not the cheapest price for this tablet currently available? If its because of the specs, I'd say your neg is not valid, unless you can present:

      1. A better price for the same tablet that is available to buy
      2. A better spec'd tablet for the same price that is available to buy.

To be fair these are a full phone plus tablet albeit only 3g so probably the cheapest branded "phablet" on the market currently. Same as Alcatel 9002A but with 8GB flash memory and 1GB RAM.

    • But why would they call it a tablet if it's a phone?

      • Well they are BCF they may not care/realise

      • +3

        It's classed as fishing….

OzB posts from 18 mo. ago have it at $79.

Is there a decent cheap Chinese phablet that would crush this?

Previous deal for the same - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221605

    • +1

So every deal that could have been had cheaper in the last couple of years actually isn't a deal, even if it's the cheapest available?

Edit as Mister miser points out this current deal is cheaper so that's really a bad reason for a neg

    • +3

      but it's cheaper now!

    • Was posting as had some reviews in it which may be helpful. not that it was cheaper.

  • How does this compare to this…

Edit, sorry cant figure how to beter link.. $149 on front page

These are on special for $20 at Woolworths if you can find them. I got one with my Woolies order this week, good for the kids to play on, for $20 doesn't matter if they ruin it.

    • how did u add to cart? it says "unavailable" online, is it out of stock?

      Thanks

      • @homersyd, I'm in QLD and ordered it on Friday. Clearance items can vary from store to store. I didn't post a deal for this because I knew there would be limited availability.

        • thanks mate

    • How is that reason for a neg? If you can find them, so you neg? The tablet is currently available at the price of $69 which makes it an actual deal in comparison to your easter egg hunt or get lucky dip for a cheap tablet at <couldn't specify location> Woolies for a supposed $20. You should either cough up evidence to show availability of this tablet at $20 or you should remove your neg.

      • +2

I should clarify my neg. This is not a good deal for $69, it's an extremely old and very slow tablet, it also cannot be updated. For $20 it was a bargain, but at $69 I personally don't think it's worth it.

Edited to add, the screen quality is atrocious. You have to view it straight on or you can't see anything. Fine for the toddler playing apps, but that's about it.

The Branded Handset Act specifies that Telstra-infested hardware requires no less than a 90% reduction of retail price in order for the item to be considered for procurement. These are to cover de-infestation and rooting of State Spyware-infested hardware.

We welcome your feedback at Spyware4Allbro.org.com.biz.info.au

    • Sorry but my Telstra branded phone says thats not a valid site 😀

  • This is "Is a 7" phone worth it?" all over again…

  • +3

Woolworths used to have them for cheaper price than this. The biggest issue is the screen quality - not IPS (colours and viewing angles are all sub-par, even for a TN based display). The included 3G SIM is for prepaid broadband and you cannot activate it to any of Telstra prepaid mobile phone plan (so you cannot used the $30 for Google play).

Mine is currently collecting dust at the moment. I think I tried to find cheap ways to unlock the 3G SIM, as well as cheap screen protectors. However, at the end, I decided that it is simply not worth the hassle (I think I paid $39 and given the quality of the tablet, it is not worth protecting, and 3G is hardly worth unlocking - if it is 4G then I probably would try).

Good toy, but $69 is too much - should be below $50. The included mobile foxtel trial deals have long expired (and are obsolete).

Don't think it is a bargain but probably does not deserve to be negged as the 3G feature may be useful for someone who only needs a computer for emails.

  • Has anyone else wondered why BCF is selling this?

  • Saw this at a Telstra shop last week (9002A), pretty sure it was $69. It was on sale for $50, around xmas, 1.5 years ago.

It's not really a bad tablet, just low specs and older Android.

Pretty unique in that it has 3G (i.e. it's not wifi-only)

Note that telstra now has an "Essentials tab PLUS", with higher specs and price ($149) https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/tablets-on-a-plan/telstra…

I teckon pretty soon, old stock of the older one will be cleared out at even cheaper prices.

  • I was in Woolies the other day and they had more or less the same kind of tablet in terms of specs (albiet no phone functionality) and they were clearing them for 10 bucks. I grabbed all 5.

Anyway, considering the specs, you'd be right to assume it would be a useless sack of shit, but I've been pleasantly surprised by what a dumpster fire with half a gig of RAM and a dual core processor can do. Thing handles basic emulation great and I've got a bunch of the better Android ports on there too, thing can run San Andreas perfect with no settings turned down.

I don't think this is even worth 70, I'm just here to say that an underspec'd piece of shit can still do enough to justify it's existence if the price is right. That being said, I wouldn't even pay 20 for the tablets I got.

    • I am looking for a basic Android tab with gps to use as a car stereo, WiFi is useful but to completely essential, do you think one of these would cut it?

      • Not sure about this one in particular, but the cheapo pile of craps I bought that I can personally speak for (Laser MID 743) actually come with a built in, completely offline GPS, I'd say keep your eye out for one like that. The GPS on it has Aussie and NZ maps preloaded out the gate and can navigate you around without ever connecting to the internet.

Offline 7 inch GPS for ten bucks, that can also play Duke Nukem 3D? No brainer.

I'd almost be inclined to say have a look if your local Woolies has anything being cleared, as they're apparently clearing a bunch of stuff like this at the moment.

      • Lenovo 7-inch models from Officeworks (etc.). If the budget is higher, you could try their 10-inch models.
This model will probably work, but I have no experience with it, and have strong aversions to Telstra firmware and branding. Useful-enough GPS software can be downloaded free for offline use.

        • I didn't think the lenovo had a gps, so its a write off for a car

        • +1

          @Jackson:
          They both do have GPS.

        • @cheepwun: i clearly shouldn't be relying on the retailers specs

  • Also, this seems to be 89 unless you're a BCF member. Not sure if it's free to join or what, but either way, I'd probably mention it.

    • Yes, free to join

  • Has anyone found a cheap way to unlock this yet?
