  • hasn't hertz gold program always been free?

    • +2

Yeah but this apparently gives you extra benefits (like 10% rack rates)

If like world+dog you're alrerady a member, then
for existing Gold Plus Rewards members who have added promotional CDP number: 705500 to their Gold Plus Rewards profile. to get the benefits.

Of course anyone who uses their work's CDP#, they probably get better rates anyway (ask HR if the company has a code, you can also use it for leisure - we get x-trail for ~$40/day, even at xmas)

      • Yeah but this apparently gives you extra benefits (like 10% rack rates)

        I was getting that anyway.

Edit: They may have been the pre payment discount actually.

        stuff the CDP's.

I got a Camry for 10 days for $200 using the Entertainment book…

      • Where do I add it? Couldn't find in my profile. Thanks

        • +1

My Account -> My Profile (under that menu)
          Then Edit Personal Details
Add it under CORPORATE DISCOUNT PROGRAM

        • Thanks :)

what can i do with the Gold Program???

I am planning to hire car in NZ and still shopping around…..

    • +5

Not much. I had the gold program for years and never used it once.
Always went with thrifty because it was cheaper. In your case i'd look at Apollo in NZ.

    • +1

I use it all the time. It means that you don't need to go to the front desk. They allocate your car and tell you which bay to get your car from. You get in and drive off. they will check your licence as your leave. Saves heaps of time, particularly at busy ports.

      • is it cheaper compare to other?..this is the most i am considering

        • +2

If you want to save on NZ car hire, it's worth looking at second-tier rental companies like Apex. I've used them a couple of times now and they've been fine. If paying by Credit Card, see if your card has rental vehicle excess insurance to minimise your costs as well.

        • thanks !!!

      • +2

As long as they do it.

Last time I was at Gold Coast airport, the sign just said for all members "Go to counter" - and they didn't even have the separated queues, so it was a long wait. Then they couldn't find the info (even though my name was on the board) and the whole process took ages, the same as just booking on the spot as they asked for all info again.

        • Thats why it is QLD and Gold Toast (yes Toast :D)

    • +1

Ace Car Rental is another second tier option in NZ. I used them for a Toyota Rav-4 to drive to the ski fields. They were really good.

  • Came just in time for my USA trip!

"Entire payment must be made on a valid American Express card."

Yet I still managed to sign up n all? Anyone know if this is really the case as i'd rather pay for it using my 28 degrees card whilst o/s :/

    • When you pay, just book in Austraila (this is what you want to do when booking for the USA anyway, as you'll be covered more for insurance if you book using AUD in australia as compared to aus - this is what i was told by hertz before)

      • You can't, it's all in USD :(

        • Are you using the Hertz.com.au website? I booked this 2 months ago and didn't have any issues. In fact when i called the Hertz phone thats what they told me specifically - to book in AUD so that the insurance is included otherwise in US it won't be.

    • Do the charge a surcharge on Amex?

      • There's a 1.5% fee on all credit card payments, Amex or otherwise.

    • last year I booked Hertz in San Fran using expedia (AU i think) and paid via different credit card. they didn't check what card I paid with - just as long as you have the Hertz gold card and contact them in advance, they had a car upgrade ready too.

  • +1

How do you enable the 10% off? Signed up and all and tried to book a car but seems as though same price when I am logged in or not.

    • +1

That was my experience also. I joined with a Amex promo a few months ago, and when I checked I couldn't see any discount.

  • +4

There is nothing new, only what is forgotten.

  • +1

As far as pricing goes, this is crap. Whether the benefits are worth it, whatever.

Basically you hand over all your info so that they can offer you the price that you can get as long as you pay for the car at the time of booking

  • +2

I joined up to this a while ago when it first popped up on amex, when I was searching for hire cares I was getting better rates with free upgrades just by using codes I found on the net.
Maybe it would be more beneficial for someone who gets uses Hertz a lot but I've never found it useful, even for free.

  • How is this different from the Platinum Charge?

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® Five Stars

    YOUR PRIVILEGES:
    Complimentary one car-class upgrade
Up to 25% discount on Hertz Prestige Collection, when kept over a Saturday night
Up to 4 hours no charge grace period (varies by rental location)
Up to 15% off standard rates
    WHO'S ELIGIBLE?
Primary & Supplementary Platinum Card members

    • That one is Five Stars

    • As mentioned above. This is for the basic tier of hertz. You've listed the Five Stars benefits, the level above.

I see no advantage in joining the bottom level, only really benefit is the quick pickup at some airports. No need to visit the counter, keys in the ignition, show ID on the way out of the car park.

Five Stars however has been pretty good to me in terms of upgrades. Had quite a few nice cars like Toyota 86, Audi A3 etc for the cost of a basic car. Lots of the premium credit cards give you complimentary 5star, you often need to dig to find it. If you pick up one of the premium credit card details for points on OzB, then cancel it, you can retain your 5star membership with hertz. I don't think they do much data matching for downgrades.

Thanks, just added cdp 705500 to my current gold membership.

    • Where do you add it? I can't see any options for adding it in my account.
