Anyone else feel like getting a free popcorn maker for buying a car isn't really the best of deals.

    • +5

Or you can think of it as a very expensive popcorn maker, and you get a car for free.

    • +5

Car costs $30-40,000. So a popcorn maker ($20 value) is about a 0.05% saving.
      But the savings add up

      • Not if your car is horrible.

        • Or I guess if the popcorn maker is horrible

    • Well if you can find a free popcorn maker with car for cheaper feel free to post it up mate.

(profanity). Car yards not open Sunday or public holiday Monday. MG you have lost a sale

  • +3

Bought three on friday and had to have stupid microwave popcorn >:(

  • find a dealer in your state

  • Thanks. I was going to get a popcorn maker this weekend

  • +6

In all seriousness, why do car companies have such ridiculous offers? Surely there'd be not one single person that would buy an MG based on the fact they can obtain a popcorn maker.

It would've cost MG Motor Australia decent coin to get a digital designer to make the ad, then communicated all throughout the chain of MG who'd then authorise the IT dept to upload it. Baffling.

    • True. But it's got us talking MG. People are visiting the website and looking at their offerings.

      • +1

Looking, but in all seriousness, not purchasing.
If it's a campaign that wants us to come away thinking MG is a bit of a joke, it has succeeded. Not a wise option for a 'prestige' brand IMO.

MG Marketing Board Room - tomorrow morning…

"See. SEE! Look how many hits our MG website has! I TOLD you this campaign would work! And you all laughed at me for the free popcorn maker offer. So who's the smart guy now, huh?"

  • +2

Thanks, bought one for home and one for work.

    • I'm assuming you bought it for the popcorn maker. So you can have delicious popcorn at work and home.

      • What popcorn? I thought this was a car deal…

        • lol but surely you only need one car.
The only reason to get a second is if you need an extra popcorn maker.
(and then resell the car on gumtree ofcourse)

        • @Gimli: You're right, one can never have too many popcorn makers :)

  • +1

Had a look, MG'S used to be cool but wow they ugly

    • the popcorn maker looks OK

  • This has to be a joke, right? What kind of car buyer will be swayed on a $20k+ decision by a $20 pop corn maker?

Fire everyone in the marketing department.

But I will +1 vote because… cute kittens.

    • Gimli, son of Gloin, never jokes

      • +1

        Not funny ones anyway.

        • Teaming up with legolas I see

  • Bring back the MG of pre-BMC

  • +1

"When you take an MG3, MG6 or MG GS for a test drive you’ll score two free movie tickets."

Looks like the REAL bargain was underneath all along..

    • But any saving you make on the car and free movie tickets will be wiped out by buying popcorn at the cinema!

      • Test drive offer of movie tickets includes popcorn! 🍿

  • What are MG these days? I'm guessing some Chinese company bought the name.

    • Cheap junk

  • +3

Be aware that if you buy this you will end up with a Chinese car masquerading as an MG.

    • -3

So it will work reliably and efficiently now unlike before.

  • +1

I'm not sure if the car will break down first or the popcorn maker.

    • +2

I'm sure there's a kernel of truth in that statement!

      • +2

Did that just pop into you head because it's pretty corny!

  • What's with the fake was rrp $25000 now $13000, they've never been $25k.
These are just cheap junky cars trying to sell off the old MG badge.

  • How a high speed camera capturing how kernel of corn turns into popcorn:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn#/media/File:Slowmotion…

I thought it was fascinating :).

The moisture content in the kernel turns to air and pressurises when heated, rupturing the kernel and turning it inside out.
