    I just use an ACTIVE displayport to hdmi adaptor that was 5 bucks, I guess you're the kind of person that buys 200 dollar Monster HDMI cables

      Not sure about OP's claims that it will fry your gpu, but you certainly should buy a certified DP 1.2 cable at 2-3m if you are running qhd ultrawide or uhd since you are reaching the limits of dp1.2. DP signal seem to deteriorate quite quickly the longer the cable is, which is why you generally don't see any certified cables that utlise the full bandwidth at 3m+

      • ^ Clearly he knows what he's talking about, and I'm also the type of guy who has a Dell monitor that doesn't have a HDMI input. :(

        It definitely can damage your GPU (or the monitor) if the pin is connected. The entire point of pin20 is to provide external power to certain devices that might need it (adapters, dongles etc) and are configured especially as such. Both the source and the destination device are both designed to output 3.3V at 500mA on pin20 of the DP interface. If the pin is connected to both ends of the cable it will result in a short circuit on that pin and one of the devices will then receive power when it's supposed to be delivering it.

        From another source;
        In addition, if, your GPU is powered off, while your monitor is powered on, you get a problem that's commonly called 'backdrive': a sneaker path that feeds electrical components in the GPU even though nothing is supposed to have power. This can result in your GPU behaving erratically when trying to power up. In some cases, it can even damage the GPU.

        • I don't doubt that if you run enough current through the cable you can damage the GPU (even if it is just a measly 1-2w), just as I don't doubt that uncertified usb cables can kill my phone.

          My issue is how often does it happen, if ever? If having that extra 1-2w flowing through the cable is enough to fry the gpu, you'd be hearing about it a lot more. DP cables have been around for a long time and no doubt shoddy DP cables have been around just as long, but you don't ever hear people come out and say that their DP cable fried their GPU. Even a quick search doesn't show any such reports. But to each his own, I personally wouldn't bother getting a certified one if all i needed is a DP cable that is <1.2m

        • @Butt Scratcher: The problem with it is that for almost everyone they can't test their cables to see if the pin is connected. There's also no actual certification label on the packaging nor is the issue even a widely known one. It could quite easily be a widespread issue but due to the difficulty of testing DP cables and the lack of knowledge that it's even an issue it could just be reported as dying GPUs/monitors.

  • display port cables fry computers now?

      Well not necessarily fry, but most retailers sell DP cables with Pin 20 connected, which is a no-no, and the GPU and MoBo does not like and will stop your entire system from booting when connected. Bad cables which discharge from Pin 20 could potentially ruin your MoBo/GPU.

  • Standard DisplayPort cables aren't certified if pin20 is connected. If it is connected take the cable back and get a refund.

  • Current standard is 1.4 fyi

    • I dont even think 1.4 is even available for consumers yet. It was announced last year but haven't seen one for sale. 1.2 does 4K at 60hz anyway.

      • Don't believe it does 4k at 120hz and above, thats why I had to go version 1.3/1.4

  • The greatest cable, just the greatest.

  • I use the ALOGIC 3m cable for my 1440p/165hz screen and it works great, if anybody is in a similar situation. Available from a bunch of ebay sellers for less than this deal.

  • I ordered one of these, had an email requesting me to confirm my system (which i did) and now nothing for two weeks. Did anyone else who ordered this get the cable, or have delays?

    • Confirm your system? As to what you computer/PC is? I ordered mine had issues with Paypal and they called me up but aside from that it was smooth sailing :\

      • yeah I am not sure - they wanted the service tag ID, which i assume is on the computer? I didnt have the computer yet so i just told them it was the XPS 8920 with the GTX 1070 - i assumed that would be enough info - no word. Tried online chat yesterday, no luck - will call today
