        • @theguyrules: that sounds good. Care to share some sample pictures? I have been lurking to buy a v20 for a bit.

Also, does HDR get trigged in manual mode or do you always have to set it manually?

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad: I haven't taken any particularly amazing photos yet, haven't had a chance yet only getting it on Monday, sorry.

        • @theguyrules: All good dude, thanks for the tips anyway.

  • Very hard to resist at this price. Only got Asus Zenfone Deluxe (ZS570KL) in January which is good but let down by camera performance. Camera in LG seems comparable to S8. Quad DAC is great feature as is dual camera.
Was considering new HTC U11 but price of that and S8 are way above this price.

    • I find the camera on the ZS570KL amazing! You gotta limit the ISO even in auto mode.

Strongly wouldn't recommend dwi to anyone. Warranty is non existent and they charge you to return it to them and to get it returned back to you. Most things are not covered either. If you want a phone to use once off than fine but take super super care of it

    • +2

Ditto! I bought an LG Nexus 5X and it melted around the charging port. They wouldn't honour the warranty and eBay didn't do anything to help either.

    • +3

Same as T-Dimension. They make you send it back then say warranty is not covered and asks you to pay to send it back. Then they stop replying altogether.

    • +2

I bought a oneplus one which got a boot loop which I didn't end up getting fixed. They told me to record a video of the problem and send the phone to China. Even though they stated on their website that they had free returns for warranty.

DWI is a horrible company, will never buy from them again

    Bought the following items:
    Samsung Galaxy S7 G930FD
Kolar 0.33mm Rounded Edges Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S7 - Clear

The screen protector doesn't fit the screen, like 3mm short on both sides of the display area (not even the glass area!), sent pics and all details, but they did not respond.
I contacted them several times, all of them went unanswered.

Sure, maybe it's the screen protector's manufacturer is at fault for making it not fit. But this company won't even communicate with you when there's something wrong. They just want your money.

    • That sounds like such a minor thing to get up in arms about. DWI sells grey market phones online. If you want good service, go to a brick and mortar store.

  • So fly like a G6

  • Looks like this phone is better than the S7. DWI used to have a good reputation.

Good price for this phone, might fall down to about $478 in the next few months, but good buy nevertheless. Only issue is the seller it seems.

    • Def better than the S7, I might seriously consider replacing my S7 with it when it reaches sub $500 for a non grey import one, the S7 will probably be worth not much less than that => win.

      • Not happy with the S7?

        • I am actually pretty happy with it, but what I don't like is:

          1. That I had to blow the e-fuse to root (I do appreciate Knox though)
          2. Despite a significant improvement in the Samsung Android implementation I still feel it's quite bloated.
          3. Battery drains too quick for what is quite a big battery. I have allot install but all I see in the Battery Usage is screen time (2h) and Android System, Android OS, Device Idle, Google Services, Cell standby etc.
          4. Not sure how I feel about the edge screen, while not hating it as some I think I might still prefer a flat screen.

The OLED screen is gorgeous I must say, and camera is excellent (which is why I bought it) so I'm not complaining by any means.

  • for those that care about root the dual sim model might never get a bootloader unlock.

  • +2

Please don't buy phones from international sellers. It's just not worth the heartache.

    • Blanket statement like this is always so constructive….always lol

    • +1

Every phone I've had since my motorola V3 has come from a grey market seller - never had any issues. The amount of money I've saved over the years has paid off multiple phones.

      • +1

        Yep, likewise.

        • +1

Ummm yeah ditto now that I think about it. Never had a problem here though I could just be lucky.

          LG V20
          Samsung Note 3
          Samsung Note 1
          various Nokia phones

Possibly the only phone I ever bought locally was the amazing Nokia 3810 :)

        • @Click_It: Haha, the only phone I purchased locally was Nokia 7600, sad state of affairs when you have to spend almost double here to get local repairs and warranty. What's the point?

        • @justmiike:

True that. I think I've gotten 2-3+ from each of my mines. And longer from the older Nokia bricks. Almost bang on 3 years from my Samsung Note 3 which just had 1 too many drops in the end I think (it took a beating to last 3 years).

Buying any of those phones locally wouldn't have benefited me at all. But I appreciate peace of mind is worth a premium to some (i'm just too cheap).

    • +1

Buying local does not guarantee you no heartaches, just maybe milder when you have them.

    • Just to clarify the blanket statement…

I recently bought a Galaxy S7 (albeit not from this seller) which was claimed to be a 930F. Anyway it was a 930V (so, slower CPU, limited band suport, no android upgrades ever).

Now I'm trying to communicate with someone in China to try to come to an amicable outcome. I bought two phones so I'm about $1000 in the hole.

Granted, this might not be you, but if I had my time again? I would definitely pony up the extra 200-300 to know that something that I'm going to have for 2-3 years is going to work properly :)

  • +2

If I wanted to get this phone (I don't but my Dad is keen) then I'd wait for a importer like Kogan to have a deal at this/close to/better price. I experienced the bootloop issue with the G4 I bought through them, and without any issue they took it back and gave me a new phone.

  • This vs Moto Z Play ?

    About the same price https://store.motorola.com.au/product/moto-z-play/

    • +1

The LG has a dual camera, faster processor, more ram and 64gb storage, higher resolution special 18:9 screen and Quad DAC but the Motorola has local warranty, a bigger battery and possibly less bootloops.

  • +3

Just buy it from qd_au instead for like $35 more. Much better reputation than DWI.

    • +1

They're great for support I must say, tend not to be the cheapest around but a few dollars for peace of mind is probably worth it.

They've covered others here on OB outside of the 12 month warranty period.

      • +1

Yeah, qd_au replaced my LG G4 when it bootlooped at 15 months, seems far better to pay a bit extra for peace of mind.

    • Whats the URL for qd_au?

  • People are still crying over the old boot loop issue ?

    Wow

The same people must prefer Samsungs past explosion issues ?

    The stupidity is astounding

    • +1

      Link ?

    • +6

The difference being that the Samsung issue was isolated to one model, and handled promptly by Samsung (admittedly because they didn't want to get sued). The LG issue extends to multiple models, and LG refused to acknowledge the issue for months.

      • +2

And then when LG did finally acknowledge that it was their hardware fault, they refused to do a recall despite widespread calls and petitions to do so, and instead were petty about the warranty - e.g. lots of people had the overseas stock from eBay, myself included, but when it bootlooped if it wasn't Australian stock then LG Australia refused to help. For a widespread hardware fault entirely of LG's making, for phones all made in the same place, that was a very poor response.

So more generally, the difference is one of attitude and approach: Samsung took responsibility and did the right thing and fixed it, whereas LG tried to shirk responsibility and did not do the right thing and still to this day won't fix it if you don't have Australian stock.

Admitted though, I don't know how Samsung handled overseas stock when they did their recall. But both Samsung and LG are big enough to have a global warranty, much like Apple does.

    • It will continue like the Deathstar did for IBM Deskstar HDD's back in the day. I'm amazed how that still comes up in conversation from time to time, must be 15 years on by now. I was a victim too with my 2x30GB RAID0 array ;)

  • I learnt from my Nexus 5 experience not to touch an LG phone again. I personally didn't have any bootloop issues but build quality was crap with a basic components like the power switch and camera, went through 3 replacements under warranty and it still happened.

  • +2

My qdau experience was good. Took a while but sorted out the issue for me with the bootloop. I prefer qdau

    • Yeah, in the end qd_au held up their end, but it took like 35 days and they weren't very responsive.
BUT they would have been inundated with returns.

      • I would recommend qaau as well and the only international shop

  • I'm not ready to update my G4 but this is tempting.
would jump in if there was a 4 in front of the price.

    • +6

well in that case, you can pay them $4,532 instead ;)

  • -2

I have e bought from DWI, t dimension, qdau, and they are better than Mobileciti

    • +3

Let me get the violin out for you for the 50th time…

  • +1

I brought one this morning. Looking forward to it, brought heaps from DWI havent had a issue yet.

    • +1

Free English Lesson. You bought, not brought. You can you use brought after you collect your package from the post office. eg. I brought my package home from the post office. ;) Enjoy the phone

      • Fair call.

  • LOL @ "and full integrated DAC"
That's like saying "and fully integrated colour screen"

  • +2

Using my right now. For the price, incredible phone! Camera is on par with s8 in normal scenarios, but takes a step ahead with the wide angle which I love. Waterproof and I love the new form factor when had a decent size screen in a small phones body. Head into Telstra to check them out as them stock them. Great travel phone with the dual sim, and don't both taking my dslr out with me most. Of the time as I have this.

    • how does the front camera and night photos compare to the S8?

That's really the deciding factor for me on these two. How good the camera is as I use it as my primary camera for the two years I own it.

My wife has an S6E and we use that as our camera as I find it much better than my LG G4.

      • Night photos on the back cameras are comparable, but the front camera is much better on the s8, especially in low light. Only plus for the front camera on the g6 is its also wide angle. To emphasise, it's not bad, just the s8 front camera is very very good

  • Sold as if every other mobile phone has no DAC. Also clearly it's a product for audiofools since it claims it has 4 DAC's and that provides better audio quality.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just bought it for $503 on the same site.

    • huh?

      • used the code CHOPCHOP

        • thanks
Just grabbed a couple of blacks from qd_au

        • @SBOB: still $30 bucks down the drain

        • @Tureblue18:

considering this was out of stock by then, not really.. and i'll take qd_au for warranty should the need arise

    • I too just bought 2 of the white colour g6 for $504 using the code CHOPCHOP. One for my mom and wife.

  • -1

FYI - I believe if you purchase using your Amex Explorer card, you get a 1 year warranty extension and screen cover replacement insurance ($100 excess).

  • -1

I believe there is a misunderstanding regarding the DAC - of course any smartphone has a DAC. But this model has the much improved "Hi Fi Quad DAC" - it would be far better than an average smartphone DAC (read: other G6 models, Samsung phones etc.)

    A review for example: https://www.theverge.com/2017/4/5/15189788/lg-g6-quad-dac-au…
(note the DAC has been initially only included in the Korean model but is now offered in other models/countries)
